Star Wars Dark Forces is as great as it was when it came out, Dark Forces II on the other hand....

I put like 40 hours into the SP of this game and around half that into the online aspect. I think its a fun yet extremely shallow RPG. If you can pick it up ~$5 i think its worth it if you like brawlers or action rpgs. I agree with the large world. Where you start out is so different from the snowy north, the arid east and the tropical south. Its truly huge and the variety of enemies and weapons keep the game interesting. An interesting feature of this game is the item stacking. It lets you combine 2 items of the same type to make a more powerful "leveled" version. It makes the array of clubs and swords you find on each enemy useful

Idle Thumbs 46: First Annual Year
racingfreak92 replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I havent read this thread so maybe this was already said, All 3 of you seem to hate achievements but something that nick said made me realize how much worse they could be. Right now if you dont care about achievements all that happens if your gamerscore stays low and maybe someone will call you a noob. Now if Nick's idea of having it unlock content in the game was used there would be a tangible reason for getting them. Now if you wanted to unlock the extra level, or bonus weapon or whatever bullshit concept art they had you have to go out of your way to complete these ridiculous achievements. Im glad the system is how it is now, if you like them well then there is a nice # everyone can see to see how own you are, if you hate them there isnt anything important you are missing out on -
Im surprised you think so. I have a genuine hate for difficult games and found it to be kinda frustrating to lose so many times in Trash Panic but i would also get so close, like 90% done with the level which made me keep trying. i think if you read the tutorial (which is quite lengthy) it gives you a very good idea of what to do. my real interest in it comes from the fact that its physics based instead of being a standard puzzler where the pieces snap together.

the graphics and environment looked great, and the little gnomes in the caves were awesome but holy shit, worst combat ever. I dont even understand how it works. when im blocking i never figured out how to do a counter parry, could charge up my attacks like it told me either, and the side strikes didnt seem to work reliably either. when blocking i would look for a sign that the AI is open to attack but i couldnt find any clear patterns. if the game had a complete reworking in the combat area i would buy this game but right now, what were they thinking?

Very true, PSN has a very weird indie feel to it. It certainly has allowed more of the products that are closer to "experiences" then games get recognition. Its pretty difficult but i dont think its really that difficult to grasp. For only $5 its worth trying as well.

PSN isnt that bad, in fact i think its better than XBLA. XBLA has a good back catalog but the amount of games worth buying that came out in the last year are in the single digits. PSN has some great games, Super Stardust HD, Pixel Junk Eden, Elefunk, Flower, Zen Pinball,Shatter and Trash Panic are exclusives worth buying. I have to disagree on Wipeout HD, i bought it on recommendation (like i did for PJ Monsters, also a mistake) and its probably the worst $20 ive spent. The graphics are great but as far as the gameplay goes its so repetitive and its need for perfect reflexes are the exact qualities i hate in games. As far as download speeds go both services are extremely disappointing. If i can get 1.1MB/s on my PC i should be able to get the same, especially on XBL where im paying $5 a month.

The PC version is just $27 on GoGamer which is a great deal (i think the PC version even includes the recent single player expansion) This is my GOTY so far, it dosent do anything amazingly well (even the destruction leaves a bit to be desired sometimes) but it is just fun. Multiplayer IMO is shit, too fast and spastic.

Help Edmund McMillen (if you want to)
racingfreak92 replied to SignorSuperdouche's topic in Idle Banter
I do understand how costly medical bills can be even with insurance, ive had many family members go in and out of the hospital and they have been slapped with ridiculous bills. If this mans situation was that he was insured but was still screwed i would feel sorry because he did what he was supposed to but the system still got him. that would be a situation worth contributing to. but when he dosent even insure himself what can he expect? -

Im about to sound like an asshole, but i am one so.... Donating to Jason Rohrer seems much more worthwhile, i heard the interview with him on A Life Well Wasted. He has managed to narrow his expenses to a minimum and leads a very interesting, minimal life. This McMillen fellow fell ill, which is unfortunate, but thats why you have health insurance. I dont know why i should throw in my money to help him when he chose against insuring himself -
Aw man! There's a sale on Play and I can't choose what to get!

i was among the few of my friends to play condemned and i thought i had found a real hidden gem. it was truly great and when i got to the end i was waiting for more. i couldnt had been more excited when the 2nd was one announced, it was a chance to get a more polished version and more of the story. What i actually got was a storyline written by a drunk and over the top corny enemies and situations. Youd be better off with the illusion of a sequel rather than the reality of it -
turning radius is one of the most exaggerated things in racing games. In most games the cars can barely make turns sharper than a couple degrees. Race Pro is probably the worst offender of this.

Condemned 1 is very fun, the 2nd one dosent come close. Id recommend Far Cry 2, Mirrors Edge not so much it just does to many things wrong -
from the demo Forza 3 feels like Forza 2 + new graphics + features poorly ripped from DiRT @Cigol: GRID is the most realistic racing game IMO because it has intense physical damage looks like, and does correlates to mechanical/handling damage. Forza needs bumpers to fall off, chassis to get crushed and the like for me to even consider it to be a sim. I understand the physics as far as friction, g force etc is way more detailed in Forza but that is just half of what is needed for a sim. @Patters: Forza 3 has a EXTREMELY bare bones damage system, im just glad this game recognizes 3d space correctly and dosent treat the cars like slot cars like Forza 2 did. NFS Shift is also one of the worst racing games i have played, like ever.

One of Nintendo's ads for Mario @ Luigi: Bowsers Story has some of the characters of the game giving some IGN-like quotes. "Did someone just page the king of awesome?" -Bowser

I bought this game back when it was $7.50 on steam and put about 30 hours into it. I had to push through the beginning where you only have a handful of troops and now have a army around 50 men. The problem i have now is i always feel like i suck at playing this game. Battles dont feel epic at all because the AI just collides and fights in a blob where my forces usually win as long as im not outnumbered by 2x. I use the hotkeys for the orders but they are so broad it barely makes a difference. The game puts a lot of weight on the levels of your fights (such as trained knights vs footman you recruit from a village) but then you have almost no control over them and whether they live or die seems to be down to just a coin flip. *I am also in the Warband beta and havent played since the first release which was pretty poor.

i rented this game a couple weeks ago and was surprised to see almost no one else playing or talking about it. It seems like everyone wrote the game off as another average FPS,which this is. But unlike most average games this one isnt short of the simple "fun factor". Its fun to jump into the game, running through the city killing nazis and crazy occult monsters. I agree with OP on the money, traps and "not far cry 2" thing 100%. When im playing i wonder why they didnt make it fully open world, why they didnt develop the sneak mechanics. Its like the stopped half way through development.

The complete mod certainly looks nice but graphical updates are not what i would put on the top of my list. If you are interested in getting the most out of STALKER then Oblivion Lost + Arsenal 2 is the mod you want to get. It fixes many of the problems with the game and makes it much closer to the original concept of the game
