  1. Ouya: Ooooh Yeah!

Chris is on the ball with his assertion that these people are hype masters. One of their updates is titled: "Final Fantasy comes to OUYA" So if you are following them on Kickstarter, you get an email that says that in the header. You click it thinking, holy shit, did they just get a legitimate game series to come to their platform? *click and read on...* Oh no they didnt. Its a fucking port of FF3 from the 90s. Awesome. Then they continue: But that’s not the end of it: We’re promising to deliver Final Fantasy III like you’ve never seen it before – Hironobu Sakaguchi’s third installment in the role playing game franchise will be updated to exploit OUYA’s high-definition resolution in glorious graphic detail. For those of you who are new to Final Fantasy, we’ll offer a free demo so you can give it a go! They make it sound like they are doing you a massive favor by upscaling it and giving you a free demo, even though part of the entire platform's premise is that ALL the games on their platform have to have some sort of free option. Final Fantasy is also the opposite of an indie title, and I would also say the opposite of anything exciting or worthwhile, since it will probably cost like $10 and im sure you can buy this for your PS3 already. And WHAT is the fucking deal with the whole "play on your TV thing". They mention that like every 4 sentences as if its the first console to ever be compatible with a TV. Why does ANYONE give a shit that you play sitting on your couch on your TV? Is that experience really that much better then sitting in a comfy desk chair and playing on a monitor? Or playing with a handheld console like a DS? Because the trade off is sacrificing games selection, your own existing library of games, and any semblance of a powerful system, just so you can play on your tv. Last I checked just about every new device, including iPads, can be connected to your fucking TV.
  2. Game Ideas

I wanna play a game where you just swim around in a photo-realistic coral reef.
  3. What are the best games that utilize voice chat?

Chromehounds is one of the most fun games I ever played - it had a great variety of options, that fun persistent war mode, encouraged teamwork and strategy, and was entirely unique. And unfortunately, due to the temporal nature of multiplayer games, it can never be experienced again by anyone ever. Fuck Video games.
  4. City of Steam (Upcoming Industrial Fantasy Browser MMO)

I was hoping this was a game about managing a fictional Steam account.
  5. Idle Hooves: CLOP

I was expecting this to be about some gross My Little Pony stuff.
  6. Payday: The Heist

Main thing I dont like about Payday s that the AI cops behave very similarly to the zombies from L4D, but with less melting flesh. This game is a crazy, glorified, shooting gallery that is fun and pretty well done, but I always feel like im wasting time that I could be spending on something with more substance.
  7. Kerbal Space Program

    The moon.
  8. Dust 514

Is it really that bad? Its one of the few PS3 games Ive been looking forward to. Im trying to find some gameplay videos from the PS3 beta that you can get from PSN, but I can only find crap from E3 or other events.
  9. Dust 514

Im assuming whatever these are for that they are redeemed through the PSN store - if so they are both gone already, unfortunately. I was hoping it was a beta invite and I would get a chance to try it out.
  10. Tribes: Ascend

I have been playing this pretty hardcore since it came out on Steam. Its fun but it has two big weaknesses, not enough maps, and horrible team balance. Even when it does a good job at getting equal level people together, that dosent do much. Pts disparity can be as much as 15k just in the top 3 on the scoreboard, and the ones who do best somehow manage to end up on the same team match after match at a rate that defies statistics. This new patch added some new maps, but not enough to make a real difference. Maybe if another new patch comes out in a month with 2-3 more maps it will keep my interest. Otherwise I will probably get kinda bored. Infiltrator has got to be the worst class in the game. I havent unlocked any of the extra weapons for it but I dont really see the point. He is way too weak for effective base attacking, he cant kill heavies or 2-3 tech defenders like a soldier, brute, or raider could. And his mines arent even that strong, and once he runs out of 4 (at max) he is screwed. Very effective for choosing it straight out and doing a quick bombing, but as soon as defenses are up, its useless.
  11. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

The Cave is an awful level they put in early on before you can do quests for Sidorvich (sp?), it kept causing my game to crash so I skipped it but the part I played was not fun. I understand the system its just poorly done. Like it regularly spawns the boss-type monsters, such as the pseudogiant and chimera, anywhere it wants - like right in front of you as soon as you start the game (which led to me dying, then quitting out and starting again - great 1st experience btw), or in the middle of the agroprom base during the military attack. Or it decides that a blow out will make about 4 dozen zombies appear and attack you - within the first few hours of the game, so just hope you have enough ammo. Or what they do with Streloks stash... thats really fun. Also a lot of the game REEKS with unprofessionalism. The controller now uses sounds stolen from HL2 zombies, the mp3 player feature (which why the hell is that even included) is just a bunch of pirated songs they threw in there, and the TVs in the game loop some crappy photoshop pictures of mutants with Russian captions, and then 15 seconds of a Porn.
  12. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

There are so many good mods for SOC, and Peoples Soup is not one of them. First off just installing it is a bitch, the instructions are GOD AWFUL, and then the download methods are even worse. The mod does a lot of things similar to other overhauls for SOC, mainly freeing up the AI so they travel, fight, and spawn more. Then it adds in more factions, gives each leadership, traders, so on. Unlike most other mods however this one adds a signifcant amount of new areas to visit, but they are all late game. The negatives so far (I just discovered Streloks Cache) really outweigh any of the promise. There seems to be no interest in balancing areas, giving a sense of progression, or protecting story line encounters. Unlike other mods this one also seems to create a lot of problems; the anomaly randomizing is painful, and now bullets always ricochet no matter what they hit. The English translation is hilarious, but hardly helpful or coherent at all. I dont think anyone who isnt closely familiar with SOC could even play this mod given how bad all the quest text is. Most Stalker mods are pretty hardcore, but this one is so player unfriendly it borders on unplayable, I really recommend staying away from it.
  13. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Excellent choice on Call of Cthulhu, Blood Money, and PJ Eden, but From Dust? Why! WHYYYYYYY!!!!!!
  14. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Id be interested in playing some Payday with other forum people, since the game otherwise seems fairly dead online.
  15. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

I played it all the way through with no mods and no major issues. The only things plaguing the game were its design flaws, mainly the frequent re-spawning enemies, more linear gameplay, and a story that shows initial promise but ends up pretty meh. The only big bug I can across (besides CTDs) was some error that prevented me from getting the next quest, but I only had to go back like an hour. Also the final boss getting stuck in some level geometry, which made the ending much easier. For me, bugs is the STALKER series were almost always technical (bad performance, memory leak, script crashes) and rarely in-game bugs like broken quests and such (and Ive played each game through on vanilla). COP really showed that GSC was learning, there were higher production values, more clearly communicated missions and more coherent mechanics. I think its in the top 5 tragedies in modern gaming that they were shut down.
  16. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

I lied, the torrent picked up to like 150kbps. Not amazing, but at least it wont take a week to download now. Erkki I recommend the "Complete" line of mods for STALKER games (you can get them from moddb, or http://artistpavel.blogspot.com/). They add graphics improvements, bug fixes, and new features like weapons/expanded AI behavior. I dont know if I would play with them the first way through, but on the 2nd time through they are def worth it if you arent into the more radical mods like Peoples Soup/Oblivion Lost/Etc.
  17. Steam Summer Sale 2012

All I picked up was Payday and Dear Esther for $7.50 total, the deals were pretty weak this year. I loved the summer tickets that they did last year, easily got me to buy at least $10 worth of games that I otherwise would have skipped, just to get tickets for them.
  18. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

That mod looks interesting... but jesus are the directions confusing and the download options are awful. The torrent is <10kbps, and that russian file site is almost as slow.
  19. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is only 33% off (<$7), which is a bit stingy for an old game, but its one of my absolute favorite sleeper hits. It was panned when it came out for bad performance and bugs, but its pretty playable now. It takes advantage of the source engines pretty particle effects and facial animations and I think it has a very compelling story. The fighting is also very unique for RPGs. It also does a great job of making you feel like a badass when you clear a room of fools quickly, and dosent fall to combat fatigue like Skyrim/Oblivion (or; it dosent involve shooting guys nonstop). I think its definitely worth a try.
  20. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Ive spent a lot of time playing that game, and all I can tell you is that its unexplainable. It takes influences from branching story lines, RPG leveling, and emergent gameplay. It takes the most incoherent gameplay mechanics of Metro 2033 and the STALKER series, and makes them even more incoherent. It tells a story influenced by classic religious allegories that gives you some choice in the development of the story, but never makes it very obvious that youve done anything. But most importantly it lets you feel like a champion when you actually understand whats going on. All of the weirdness is framed in a very fun fast-paced FPS/RPG that plays kinda like the Shadowrun Xbox 360 game (as far as the merging of of weapons/magic/and tech is concerned), which makes the weirdness much more bearable, because even when your confused you are still enjoying whats happening on screen. If you liked Deus Ex (new or old), STALKER, Metro 2033, Far Cry 2, or even Hitman, I think you will like this. Play at least two hours to get into it. Its wacky, its russian, its fun.
  21. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Games under $5 you gotta get: Pixel Junk Eden E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy Rock of Ages STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl and/or Call of Pripyat the first Men of War game (if it hits a sale again)
  22. I think that as the bookcast progresses the reading level of the books should progress with it. Like for this first episode I would have preferred something more on my level, like Green Eggs & Ham, or a Sarah Palin book.
  23. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

    Whichever one has better graphics.
  24. Us and the Game Industry Kickstarter

Yes... it is confusing writing. Also I looked at the rewards from the last one and from this one and everything is significantly more expensive this time around, so thats not very encouraging for donors. And as someone who launched my own Kickstarter, I expect them to make it look much better the second time around. Those stills they chose look SO BORING, that random little blue divider bar is lazy and dosent match anything else, and the video is identical from the last project. (Also side poll: does anyone actually care about getting a T-shirt from these random projects/products/companies?)
