One of my best friends works on the soundtracks for Rockstar. The way it works is he proposes track lists and one of the game designers has the final say. Holy shit he did a good job!

Totally! I just got through 6 before work this morning. I didn't mind the stealth mission in the beginning maybe because I knew to go to the right around the fountain after someone posted here that you should do what your partner tells you to do. He does say it pretty quietly if you are not close to him though. But up through Borneo I realised I was agreeing with Nick "fucked it all up" Breckon. Was this really my kind of game nowadays? But as soon as I hit Urban warfare things started to click and the gameplay became fun. I am even enjoying the story. I had trouble with grenades for a while because I mixed up which way the guiding line was going. Durrrr. I like using the gas tanks a lot. Also the game has made me laugh quite a few times, the banter really works. The platforming parts are super easy, a bit like Prince of Persia (the latest shit one) but if they had been harder it would probably be really frustrating. I am so amazed by the graphics, I have never seen a game look so good. chapters 5 and 6 reminded me first of the good bit of MGS4 and then HL2. The companion, the way the battles play out and then being chased by the helicopter, especially when its shooting you as you run through the building. Oops I've gone on like a 10 year old talking about Spyro or something.

Lol what? Who ever said that about Killzone 2 apart from the Citizen Kane of Video Games guy (or the letter to EDGE magazine). I kind of enjoyed Uncharted 2 in a similar way I did HL2. Very different story telling technique but still a directed rollercoaster ride. Which is what HL2 is, even though I think it is more effective narrative wise. Even though what you get up to is very cinematic, it doesn't feel like a film, it feels like that stuff is really happening. That's probably in large part to the realtime nature of it and the lack of traditional cutscenes. What an amazing game. Actually HL2 is my favorite, I just love the epic journey to Mordor feel of it. When it first came out I only played up to Ravenholm and I found it too nervewracking to continue. I didnt particularly like that first part then but when I went back to it and played it all through this summer, I LOVED it. Its now my favorite game.

Hey could you please put up a copy of the idle thumbs newspaper you printed at GDC that came up again in this 'cast? I would like to read about the etymology of the term Video Games. I am not a game developer so I was not there but I am a loyal and loving reader. Doom 4 sucks.

When I think casual I think Peggle. Dirty slut of a game.

DJ Hero comes out today and yeah, I'm getting it. I thought I wouldn't be affected by this years fall release madness but today I've got DJ Hero being delivered, Torchlight unlocking and the LFD2 demo also. Welp. Anyway, this guy has found a way to recoup his $120 investment in his newest plastic instrument. (taken from SA DJ Hero thread) http://raleigh.craigslist.org/evs/1438184361.html

Oops, the link in the first post was a joke by Ascii Genitals on SA. Hilariously all these sites reported on it. http://www.destructoid.com/dude-wil...al-153290.phtml http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/10/fi...-dj-hero-style/ http://game.blogdig.net/archives/ar...and_a_meal.html http://game.ology.com/2009/10/27/en...s-his-services/ http://playstationhome.com/20091028...h-carolina.html http://www.gamernook.com/news/tagged/craigslist/1/

Trip report, in the words of Nick Breedon, "This is a good game." After playing Torchlight for 3 hours I thought I'd have a quick go on this before I went to bed. Which was 3 hours later. The plastic toy is actually really nice, the platter moves just like a real turntable when the record is spinning, just the right amount of resistance to pulling the record back. Nicely made, feels very solid. I was pretty surprised. It takes a bit of getting used to, the first time you get a bunch of scratches to do I totally kept screwing them up. A couple of songs later I was nailing them and they felt very natural and fun. I got better pretty quickly, I think I needed an hour before I got into that groove where I knew the language of the game and could take on the challenge. Thats different than guitar hero which always had that pick up and play thing going for it. The music is really great and the little tricks, flips, scratches and button presses they make you do do a good job of making you feel a part of the song and at times like a complete badass. Two amazing new games in one night!

I have never played Diablo or Diablo 2. After about 3 hours of play I am in love with this game. Its delightful.

I'm listening to the new Thumbs podblast with Max Schaefer talking all about this game while I am downloading. Its getting me so excited. Another example of the kind of magic only Idle Thumbs seems to nail. Oh shit downloads finished see you later.

The groundswell of support mysteriously happened after the Thumbs endorsed the game on Sunday. So the end of Idle Thumbs will therefore kill indie gaming and Activision will have won.

I own each console and have a PC. A benefit of being a 30 something manchild with a career. I know my 12 year old self would be proud of me, restricted as he was to an Atari ST, never owning a SNES or Megadrive. This allows me to be platform agnostic, I just plays da games. Since listening to Idle Thumbs I have rediscovered PC gaming and that has become the platform I use the most nowadays. Thumbs made me aware of games like Dawn of Discovery and TRINE and things have just snowballed from there. I just find I'm playing PC games the most these days. I do love my consoles though, I think multiplayer on the XBOX360 is so easy and efficient. On the PC I don't really have a clue what I am doing, I have very few people on any PC friend list and playing with strangers has suprisingly been more perilous than on the 360. I dont have any real life friends that play video games so I just try and pick up friends from SA or here. I just love Video Games. and yes I'm talking about Jake.

Ugh you weak readers that have just given in disgust me. I think carrying on with a mutated thing will usher in a second age of thumbs' blasts and bask us in glorious light. Like Parappa said, you've gotta believe. My hope is Chris and Jake are realising how much they are loved and also that their popularity has been skyrocketing. Its not just us few on here, take a look at that NeoGaf thread. Other podcasts are beginning to tremble, they know they're shook, cause aint no such things as halfway crooks Scared to death, scared to look

You're wierd. I totally just pre-ordered this. Yesterday I thought I couldn't just buy it based off of a tweet from Mr Remo but apparently I'm all linky clicky when I read the articulate and illuminating prediction that "Torchlight will be Diablo I to Diablo III's Diablo II." Also I finally found Pikmin 2 yesterday so its been a thumbs inspired shopping spree this weekend. Oh AND my LFD2 demo preloaded (that steam mistake again!). I only ever tried LFD after hearing Nick and Jake talk about it with such infectious enthusiasm. I can't wait for delight of sharing these new PC gaming experiences over the next few months of podcasts with my dear friends at Idle Thumbs. Torchlight, LFD2... then the payoffs from hours of chat about Dragon Age, into next year... Mass Effect 2 and Dante's Inferno. Its going to be so much fun! Oh to be in love.

Bethesda : "Congratulations Nick Breckon, good to have you aboard." Nick: "Thanks I can't wait to work with the Oblivion and Fallout communities, those games created some of the most interesting and exciting communities, we've talked about that a few times on my podcast, Idle Thumbs." Bethesda : "Yeah about that." *picks up mini tape recorder and replays thumbs talking about Rogue Warrior* Nick: "No more Wizard?" Bethesda : "No more Wizard Nick." Congratulations Nick, I think that's a very savvy hire on their part.
