  1. Help me pick out a new mouse

That's what you get for not following the will of the Thumbs collective.
  2. Titanfall

http://www.gamerheadlines.com/2014/02/titanfall-wont-require-origin-on-xbox-one-new-beta-information-released/ Innocuous website, but quotes real Twitter posts that seem to confirm no Origin required on Xbone.
  3. Help me pick out a new mouse

I'm thinking about picking up this mouse - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E4MQODC/ I currently use a wireless Razer Mamba which I like quite a bit, it just doesn't feel super nice in the hand and the battery life is lacking as I've had it for years now. This one looks pretty nice... 250 hours of battery life, takes AA batteries, and has hella buttons. Just nervous about trying another wireless gaming mouse - they seem inherently like a bad idea, but they're much more convenient for me.
  4. Bioshock Finite: Irrational Games shuts down

I wish that this post I'm writing would be deleted and the thread locked at this quoted comment.
  5. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I vaguely suspect that somehow the bomb you set managed to either launch the rock, boomerang, corpse, or whatever into the Ankh shop and set them off.
  6. Other podcasts

I don't really know what to do with that information other than take Planet Money with a grain of salt. The truth is, I wouldn't know very much about the financial industry if Planet Money wasn't a source of information for me. That being said, I don't take what they say as gospel, only a starting point for further discovery. Since I've started listening to that podcast, I've read books about the financial industry and the history of finance, I've been more likely to pick up The Economist or Businessweek while I'm at the airport, or be more engaged in learning about legislation pushed by people like Elizabeth Warren despite how she was treated on-air. So, I find Planet Money generally a source for good in my life, though not immune to criticism and skepticism.
  7. Tone Control 8: TOM FRANCIS

Welcome! And off-topic, you a KoL player? Seeing that sabre-toothed lime brought some flashbacks.
  8. Games giveaway

Most video card bundled games require the publisher's client... wanting to get people invested from day 1 in their ecosystem rather than Steam. However, you'd need a UPlay account anyways so it's not a huge deal if the game's free. I don't like buying even cheap games for uPlay because I just don't like using that clunky client, but I did play a couple games using it because I got them free through video card bundles.
  9. Consolidated ID Exchange

I stupidly made it non-editable, now you can edit it!
  10. Titanfall

    Mirror's Edge + Armored Core + COD
  11. Consolidated ID Exchange

Alright, let's give it a shot. I've made a preliminary Google spreadsheet for this purpose and included any ID's that came to mind. If anyone thinks of any other columns that should be added, please let me know. http://bit.ly/thumbsidex
  12. Yeah, I had the same experience. Took like.. one hour for me to get my invite.
  13. Titanfall

Yeah, getting that first Titan can make all the difference as far as momentum is concerned. When you do a particularly good job of taking out minions in attrition, you can get a good 1-2 minute head start on enemy Titans and really swing the early momentum in your team's favor. One other thing I like is that the challenges for each of the weapons seems appropriate to the weapon - for instance, kill counts needed to earn SMG attachments are much higher than those for the sniper rifle, because they know that your kill count is probably going to be lower using the slower semi-automatic weapon. I didn't think I'd like sniping at first because the sight was such a high magnification and things move so fast in the game that it's hard to be effective. But if you put a little time into it, you can unlock an ACOG-style sight and suppressor that can make it so easy to get early points in attrition by killing off waves of minions at a distance and even getting some nice pilot kills in while they're racing forward to slaughter.
  14. Games giveaway

I have 3 of those coupons, if three more anyones want them.
  15. General Video Game Deals Thread

All super solid games... gotta love Guacamelee and Dust for two of the best Metroidvania implementations last generation. I watched Jeff's highlight of Antichamber during Giant Bomb's 2013 GOTY deliberations and it looked super intriguing. I already owned half of the games, but figured it was well worth it for the rest.
  16. That actually sounds awesome, can I get one of those invites?
  17. Bioshock Finite: Irrational Games shuts down

So he should have put thrown his career at the feet of 2K in exchange for them releasing the hostage that was Irrational? That's pretty crazy, dude.
  18. Bioshock Finite: Irrational Games shuts down

That was my assessment as well. I can't imagine that Ken Levine was like "well, I'm bored with this so let's put like 70 people out of work". Probably he put in his request to leave Irrational, 2K evaluated whether or not Irrational was worth keeping without him, and seemingly decided the answer was "no."
  19. Titanfall

I think when you rip off the side panel of a robot and shoot inside of it, you're a "hacktivist".
  20. Titanfall

I destroyed a dropship along with another Titan, I think we both used our core powerups and took it down with about 10 seconds on the counter before it was going to leave. I'm jonac13 (I think) on Origin PC, add me. I also just preordered the game because I'm fairly sold and I'm dying for a competitive FPS, anyone interested should check out this $48 preorder deal on GameFly DD - http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/114274/gamefly---titanfall-pre-order-pc-digital-download
  21. Titanfall

It's open beta on Xbox One, there should be a button on the dashboard that lets you download it if you have Xbox Live Gold. It's also open beta on PC/Origin, but you had to have already attempted to register for the beta a couple days ago. If you didn't register for a beta key, I think you're out of luck.
  22. I got this guy while I was in Japan - Probably one of my favorite things I did while in Japan was visit the toy floor of Yodobashi Camera and having my mind boggled by the vast collection of toys, models, and figurines they had for practically anything I was looking for (granted, my range of anime/cartoon interests in limited). They also had these tiny figures of various Pokemon and I had to get Tyranitar: Their offering of puzzles was also out of control. They had like... 100 Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki 1000-5000 piece puzzles and I grabbed a Totoro one (which I couldn't find a image of on Google).
  23. Titanfall

Yay open PC beta! I only had time to try out the tutorial, but damn I think it feels pretty good. The movement is not quite as tight as something like Mirror's Edge, but gives you just enough modes of movement to really add some dynamic element to the game play without making movement too unfamiliar. I got completely messed up by the Titans in the Titan-on-3-titans level of the Tutorial, but managed to just barely take them down. I hope the actual game isn't like that, or else I really have a long way to go with figuring out how to properly use a Titan.
  24. I just saw that mIRC was shareware and assumed that maybe not all of those were totally free.
  25. Can those of us IRC noobs get a general consensus for best non-shareware, free IRC clients?
