Triple Threat is excruciatingly effective when people don't manage the density of their Titans and they get caught up on each other. I've been taken out completely because I exhaust 50% of my shields, I'm looking for cover, but one or two friendly Titans are blocking my escape and a Triple Threat Stryder drops a whole clip on all of us, killing me and severely damaging all of my teammates. It's also good on CTF and Hardpoint, where you can use it to spam a contested area or pathway that you know is a chokepoint for people. I've really taken a shine to the G4A1 lately, because it just does a ton of damage and can actually be a great asset both at long distances and in close quarters. I've taken down quite a few shotgun flag runners who are only looking at the flag and fail to notice me sitting in a corner, ready to take them out with a couple well place torso shots. It's also nice for taking potshots at distant pilots and getting some assist XP. I think I've been far more effective with it than a sniper, which I find next to useless at close range unless you have an HCOG on it.

Well, they did make more Altair games that filled in the gap between 1 and Altair in Revelations, I think there was one on DS and one on PSP. But yeah, there were no other ancestors within that gap. I'd really like them to just get out of the rut of Desmond's ancestry, and maybe pick another character who is actually still alive and part of the modern day Assassin's or go the other direction and pick a new Templar protagonist/anti-hero with a different set of genetic memories.

A well coordinated group of Titans can easily make or break a match, as in the case I mentioned earlier where 2-3 Titans were covering a flag in CTF with a handful of Triple Threats. There was just no way to convince my team to actually muster the coordination to combat that, because you easily need 3 or more Titans to match that combined force, let alone grab a flag and escort back to base. I also center one of my builds around a sniper rifle for the reason you mention. It's way too easy for a group of coordinated long-range guys/stealth smart pistol guys to dominate a portion of the map, only thing that can punch a hole through that is a taste of their own medicine.

That's exactly where I am! Cluster Missile is great, I'm loving it in Pilot Hunter where I can see a guy trying to activate a heavy turret, I can fire in the general area of it, take the heavy turret down to 50% AND kill the pilot all in one glorious shot. I'm also gaining a newfound love of the chaingun; it's ridiculous accuracy is great for making sure a Titan's shield doesn't regenerate while a guy tries to find spotty cover amongst disparate buildings. It's also nice for taking out pilots at a relative distance and targeting the red portion of a Titan specifically for lots of critical hits.

I kinda feel like I broke Hardpoint Domination. I've had a ton of success lately by just using a build that has silenced primary/cloak and just sticking to one hardpoint the whole game. It seems like, unless the opposing team is extremely coordinated, I can hold a single point the whole game unless I get killed, at which point I just head back, recap it, and hang out again. If I can hold a single point, that means my team is always focused on fighting for the other points, and we also generally have two points because I'm guaranteeing one and the rest of my team is fighting for the middle. Last match, I had 4k+ defense points and 10 pilot kills with 2 deaths. I used a silenced DMR and picked up an enemy silenced carbine as my secondary. I let my autotitan distract enemy titans while I sniped from afar with my Archer missiles.

You have to jump up and into it. Imagine if you were looking at your character model in third person, you'd be jumping in hopes of actually clipping into the zip line and then holding down E (I think, it's holding down X on the 360 controller).

Half of my point was that my intuition is not to use hip-fire if I want accuracy, so I don't really think that information does me much good because I'd actually have to put in an effort to act differently with no perceptible advantage other than maybe sparing the time it takes to go ADS.

ObjectiveGameReviews.com - A Subtle Journey of Discovery

You're just objectively pointing out that your review is mentioned on a Steam page. -
Yeah, the LMG functions much like it does in COD, actually. I would use a silenced LMG like a SMG - it fired nearly as fast as any SMG and did much more damage per bullet. In my limited use with the LMG in this game, I figure it functions fairly similarly. It is nearly useless at range, though, which is kind of annoying.

I generally don't fire from the hip with most weapons, only the shotgun and SMG (if not silenced). Of course, I'll pull the trigger if the guy is dead in front of me if caught by surprise with any weapon. Also, I find that it's unintuitive to fire the smart pistol toward the aimpoint as you call it, because generally you're not doing that when using the weapon. Also, does ADS not improve accuracy statistically? I've noticed it most obviously while using the 40mm at range, but aiming/zooming in seems to improve the grouping/accuracy of your shots inherently.

As far as I'm concerned, ego-fuel/cosmetic content can be locked by as much dumb stuff as they desire.

Defending a hardpoint in close range isn't too bad. I love taking the smart pistol for this purpose... get on the top of a building with a hardpoint that you're defending and use the smart pistol to take out anyone who is having trouble finding the door into the building or wallrunning/vaulting up the sides. Occasionally drop down into the building with a LOS out the door and periodically cloak so you can get a hard lock on an approaching guy. If you don't get a full lock, aim and unload your whole smart pistol clip. I was playing a game with Forbin (IIRC) where I defended one hardpoint for practically the whole game using this strategy. I had over 2.5k defense points and only died twice.

I find myself not liking any mode more than the other particularly, but rather preferring the Variety Pack mode so I can switch it up. The different modes really do differentiate quite well for an otherwise familiar series of game modes, with you having to really reprioritize your targets or change your pace based on the specific objective. Killing a titan with another titan is great, I have Warpfall Transmitter on a couple of my builds for that purpose specifically. The 40mm cannon is actually my favorite of the Titan weapons. It's quite good against infantry granted you use the aim, and it's also great in burst fire mode to do a lot of damage within a tight window of line-of-sight. One criticism I have of the game is that I honestly feel that Titans are still quite overpowered in particular game modes, CTF chief among them. If a team scores an early point, all they have to do is plunk 3 Titans on their flag with Triple Threat and no person will be able to touch it. Actually convince your team to lay out a force large enough to take out 3 Titans AND give you room of opportunity to grab the flag, and you've left your flag wide open. Tons of Titans require a ridiculously high degree of coordination to overcome and it's really hard in that mode to get people to actually work cooperatively to that extent.

I use the secondary all the time. The revolver is extremely powerful and can take a dude out in 1-2 hits. The others are adequate when you can't reload fast enough and a flag carrier is almost out of reach. Don't forget that you can also fire the smart pistol as a regular pistol. Many of my kills with that weapon come after only a partial lock and finishing the job with an aimed shot to the chest.

Nah, I don't think so. My stats in Call of Duty have been even between the console versions and PC versions I've picked up over the years.
-
Due to the parkour and wallhanging, I do a lot of running into a room/turning a corner, cloaking, and then turning around to check if someone is trying to get the jump on me. About 25% of the times I feel the need to do it, I am actually being followed and it was worth the trouble. Am I weird for using the controller on the PC version? I haven't found myself particularly at a disadvantage, but that may just be because I'm fairly decent at FPS games.

GTV IV was well worth its price in the few times back in the day that I played Grand Thumb Auto with the gang here. I also played five or six hours of the campaign, felt quite pedestrian except for some decent writing (of some characters and on particular missions, not on the whole).

I got into a couple CTF matches this evening no problem. Seems like there's generally a shortage of flag defenders, so I've found my niche there. I end up in third place or so, but I end up with the most pilot kills and often the most flag returns. Not bad at all. Faced a team of 4/6 smart pistols and 2/6 silenced carbines in attrition. Completely dominated my team, made excellent use of cloaking and I think stealth kits to let us move past them then sneak behind us over and over again. Carbine guys would take out anyone who got wise or tried to strafe. We got outscored something like 3:1.

Okay, I'm now sold on the smart pistol. I had an attrition game where I got MVP and killed 40+ minions. I also ended up having 5 Titan kills, mostly because I kept racking up Titans to call in. Great stuff.

Keep in mind that GOG Spelunky doesn't have the Daily Challenge mode (unless that's been patched in post-release, which I haven't heard of).

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
JonCole replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
Depending on your laptop, you could just get a new wi-fi module and swap it out. On some, it's a simple task and others a herculean one, as you might guess. -
I guess I need to give the Smart Pistol a go, I've certainly seen some players use it to great effect. I do think it requires some degree of mastery of the traversal, because closing that gap faster than a person can shoot you or run away from you seems critical. I've had the most success with the shotgun and SMG, mostly because I find that getting up close and personal is more effective than long-range for my particular skillset. I imagine I'll also like the semi-automatic rifle as well just because guns of that type tend to be high damage per shot.

One thing I've come to learn recently is that in attrition mode, you should basically prioritize attacking AI over almost anything else. I've had a ridiculous amount of success with this strategy - kill every grunt on your radar and hack every spectre you lay eyes on, then you have a veritable army of spectres, you're earning attrition points far faster than people who prioritize pilots, and you're getting your Titans much faster than anyone else at which point it's then in your interest to target Titans/pilots. Also, don't disregard AI when you're in a Titan - if you can hit a group of AI as soon as they're deployed, that's a quick ~5-10 attrition points.

At this point, the primary function of the campaign for me is playing regular missions with a lower chance of facing high-level, highly experienced enemies. I also like that part on the last mission where the dude is sticking out of his mech and shouting some stuff, then bursts through the front gate of the complex with his Titan. That looked pretty rad.
