I think his monitor is 1920 x 1200 or better, I'm not completely sure. Those Cinema Displays are generally a high 16:10 resolution, even the older ones. I know that Battlefield 4 at Ultra recommends 3GB of VRAM, I can't imagine it'll be the last. Though of course, that's to run it at ultra - I'm sure it isn't necessary to run the game at those settings, but having the ability to sure is nice. Maybe 1) I'm just crazy or 2) I don't have the very latest SSD (I have a last-gen Samsung) but I don't really feel a huge payoff from using mine. This is not to say that there isn't one, I just don't really detect it. It's much easier for me to feel the advantages of running a game at the maximum graphics settings over having textures load 50% faster or startup times reduce by 10 seconds. It's a personal preference, but I'm just sharing it.

Some people purport that air compressors create a degree of static electricity that can damage computer components, but I know of a lot of professional PC builders/maintainers who use them with no measurable negative effect across hundreds of cases. I would only worry about the compressor actually doing damage to the components due to high pressure, which you could subvert if you drop your compressor to something like 30 PSI and keep it a reasonable distance from fragile parts of the motherboard and such.

For what it's worth, that's a Razer Nostromo. It's no longer for sale (I'm sure you can get it used) but its successors are the Razer Tartarus and Orbweaver. The former is around $60-70 and is laid out very similarly to the Nostromo, the latter is upwards of $100, has mechanical keys, and has an extra row of keys.

That Corsair case (and most Corsair cases, really) has both an intake and exhaust fan, which is pretty good for stock. I can't imagine he'd need much more than that. Re: K-series, unlocked multiplier CPUs... I'd just think about that seriously before ponying up any extra money unnecessarily. I can't imagine how many gamers were recommended those CPUs and never overclocked them, but it's a huge amount from what I've seen anecdotally. That's not to say there's no value in overclocking, I've seen plenty of people on forums like Tom's Hardware talk about how they elevated their $100 CPU to compete with a $150-200 CPU and so on, I just know that I'll never do that myself.

Yeah, that is a bit better than adequate. Only thing I'd consider is getting a 4GB video card and decreasing the capacity of the SSD (if you want to keep the price consistent). Only a couple games at the moment make use out of greater than 2GB VRAM, but it may prove useful in the future with ports of console games that use lots of VRAM.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

That was my intuition, I just have recently heard good anecdotal things about Vegas recently and I have a weird brand loyalty to Sony so it reblipped on my radar after being fairly set on Premiere previously. I do imagine that there's some degree of UI/design consistency among Creative Suite stuff, so learning Premiere could leverage somewhat into other products in that lineup unlike Vegas. Thanks for the input, guys. If anyone else has more experience in these things, any other advice would still be recommended. I'm still trying to do a little more research before I bite the bullet, might try out a couple trial versions first. -

Anyone here have experience with video editing? I wanted to get into some light personal editing, with the possibility of more professional work down the line, so I was wondering if anyone had input on what software may fit my needs on Windows. I'm split between Sony Vegas/Movie Studio and Adobe Premiere/Premiere Elements, they seem to have similar feature sets at least from my somewhat unlearned perspective but I'm really most interested in whatever has the better complication-to-capability split. -
I think it's my Fallout character. When I want to kill a very tough enemy, I put about 20 bullets into their right calf until it's mutilated, 20 bullets into their left arm until its mutilated, set the dude on fire, and then expose him to a radioactive bomb. No killing is as jerky as that.

I like Freemake for converting between various file types, I use it most frequently to turn MP4/MOV/AVI -> WMV for use in Powerpoint presentations for work. Handbrake is what I use for converting between MKV -> MP4 or vice-versa. -
So, I got this game and man is that introduction tutorial sequence goddamn depressing. I'm not super jazzed to play the game after that, frankly.

Upgrading shields is totally worth it, at least the ones that get stability increased with upgrades. Anything that maximizes stamina conservation is good, in my experience.

I'm pretty sure Korriban is in The Clone Wars at some point (theoretically making it canon), though I'm not through it yet so I can't say with certainty. While I could probably tell you a handful of the coolest Sith lords of past, I don't really know how important it is to preserve that history. The whole idea of a Sith homeworld is pretty cool and worth preserving, though.

In the EU, Emperor Palpatine makes clones of himself so that his imprint in the Force could simply transfer to a new body in the event of his death. A series of events leads to Skywalker being stuck on Coruscant, where he is captured by clone-Palpatine's forces and brought to the emperor. Skywalker realizes that he can't beat Palpatine alone, so he submits to being the Emperor's servant in hopes to cut out Palpatine's legs from under him. Instead, he is genuinely seduced by the Dark Side and it takes all of his compatriots to get him to snap out of it. I mean, it's not an amazing story but it already exists. It's part of why I'm a bit disappointed by this choice. There's plenty of storylines rich with interesting plot twists that the new movies will almost certainly ring similarly to, so it just seems a shame for them to more or less abandon it. I guess I just wish that there was a way to do this without invalidating the EU, but I suppose its easier to just do it this way. Also, i hope they don't make Skywalker a bad guy. Mostly because it'd strike me as too similar to Anakin's storyline. I hope it's really ultimately not about the original cast and that they just provide a backdrop. Maybe Skywalker trained a Padawan who turns to be a Dark Jedi, travels to Korriban and becomes a real Sith Lord by going through the ruins and learning from the force ghosts of Sith lords past. A Sith ruins fight would be pretty cool.

Ahh, it is removed from the playlist not the phone. I didn't understand that part of your kinda weird ritual.

Thank you. I honestly feel like some of you guys are being incredibly reductive and overly logical about a mostly emotional feeling. Guys, I get it. I don't feel destroyed or furious. I just feel kinda disappointed because something I grew up with is no longer at thing that's continuing to happen, and instead being rebooted in favor of a new direction. Am I not allowed to simply be disappointed by that, but rather be misguided because I'm apparently putting too much stock in a rightsholder decision or because I think that thing based on what I consider to be good stuff is being discarded in favor of thing based on what I consider to be unknown stuff?
-
It invalidates it in the eyes of writers who will almost certainly no longer continue to develop content for the Legends part of the franchise (hell, I don't even know if Lucasarts is licensing the Legends brand to new books) and instead for the new canon. I don't think that the new stuff will make the old stuff go away, it just means that the old stuff will no longer continue to be developed in any meaningful way.

It feels to me that the EU was reinforced to be "the real thing" over the years because 1) it filled a huge gap of real-life time between Episode VI and Episode I, making it a de facto thing and 2) the second trilogy was a prequel, so it basically seemed designed to allow the EU to exist in a more implicit way. Sure, there were some prequel novels that were snuffed out when the prequel trilogy came out, but the amount of post-Battle of Endor content far outstripped the rest. I should say that I'm not upset with the decision to make EU non-canon, I'm upset with the reality. Because honestly, I don't really think that movie adaptations of the EU would be very good to begin with, as they'd need to be heavily adapted to be compelling stories on the screen rather than the page. Thrawn is not a movie villain, ysalamiri aren't a visually compelling threat to the Jedi, and I think they'd need to perform some movie magic to make us care about the Ackbar/Fey'lya story. In some ways I might have been happier had the new Star Wars movies never been announced or intended, but here they come and I'm trying to force myself to be excited about potential rather than what I really like being dashed in potential's favor.

I wasn't aware that DoggCatcher had multiple device syncing. I also wasn't super fond of the fit-and-finish of the UI when I tried the trial version before, though that may have since changed. However, having a trial/free version at all is a good enough reason to give DoggCatcher a try before throwing money at Pocket Casts with only recommendations.

Do it. I do this all the time with digital games that are ludicrously cheap on PSN - trade-in to Amazon, buy PS credit, buy cheap digital thing. Okay, actually trying to help now. Digital games take precious HDD space? That's all I got.

New Wii U bundle is pretty sweet, $329 for a Deluxe, Red Mario WiiMote, Mario Kart 8, and current Club Nintendo promo that gets you either Pikmin 3, Legend of Zelda: WWHD, or New Super Mario Bros. U for free digitally. Comes out in a month's time, really want it. =/

You can disable auto-delete from Pocket Casts and it would simply indicate played vs unplayed, allowing you to delete what you consciously heard and relisten to ones you slept through.
-
Correct. Any game you pay any additional (beyond the subscription fee for Plus) money for is not a "rental", it's something you own after you unsubscribe. PS+ discounts tend to be further discounts heaped on top of discounts offered to the general public. So something might go on sale for 25% to everyone, but 50% to PS+ members.

As I'm catching up on the Clone Wars cartoon series that is now one of the few actual canon things, I think that the series was more or less a way to preserve the best ideas - stuff like the Mandalorians, witches of Dathomir, Father/Son/Daughter/Chosen One, etc. If these kinds of elements manage to launch similar/improved versions of the events in the EU, I'll be quite satisfied.
