  1. Ouya: Ooooh Yeah!

Last I heard, Ouya was becoming a software platform and it was going to be adopted by MadCatz for their crazy $200 Android thing.
  2. DOTA 2

I guess that'd be one way for me to boot up the game. >.>
  3. DOTA 2

I still haven't started playing this game, random question - is there going to be a chat room for Thumbs around the time of the Championship? I was thinking about watching this year but I don't know shit about the game and I'm sure I'll have a bunch of dumb questions.

  5. Other podcasts

I feel like Jeff and Ryan were the core of what I originally thought as the Bombcast; as long as Jeff is still there, it represents what it traditionally was for me personally. That said, the lack of Vinny will be noticeable. I'm really hoping they hire an established personality that we know gels well with the guys, but knowing them they could also bring in a scrub that could fit in just as well as anyone else. Right now, I'm still in optimistic territory. Vinny could make Giant Bomb East much more of a "thing" with its own "real" podcast that makes it feel more like a division of Giant Bomb rather than a niche spinoff. Jeff, Brad, and Drew have plenty of personality to go around, but I do think they need someone new to fill the niches in interests in that side of the team.

  7. Premiere Elements 12 has separate timelines, I just checked. But it's the latest version, so likely still around 70 US/I don't know how many £.
  8. Ah great, now I'm looking up wireless Astro Headsets on eBay. Maybe by my next paycheck this temporary technology lust will have blown over.
  9. Ah yeah, that's pretty late for me. Even if I wanted to stay up that late, I'd have to turn the audio way down and I couldn't really voicechat so it'd be a severely suboptimal experience. I could definitely try to swing weekend times. However, if you manage to get some people together to play 4-player stuff and need to fill a fourth seat, let me know and I might be able to work it in. Would still have the audio limitations in either case. I wish there was a wireless headphones solution that wasn't 1) crap 2) multiple hundreds of dollars. I got a $100 Turtle Beach deal a couple years ago and the wireless interference was intolerable. With cats, I can't do anything that has anything to do with wires.
  10. Okay, I have LIVE until September and I'm willing to try voice communication over Kinect so I don't have to pay for a new headset. Weird, the cheapest headset seems to be like... $20 unless I opt for some OEM piece of garbage. My greatest interest is in ODST, I'm still missing a ton of Firefight achievements, Legendary co-op, and of course the ridiculous 4-person vidmaster challenge stuff. I believe I still have Gears of War 2, which I'd also be pretty interested in playing. Only thing is that I don't think I have all of the DLC, so some of the Horde maps might be unavailable to me. Granted, if I knew that I'd be playing with them at least a couple times I suppose I could pony up whatever that stuff happens to cost now. What is the time difference in AZ right now? I know you guys don't do daylight savings or some silly stuff like that, so are you... one hour off from EDT? I think I might be available this evening, if I can get dinner cooked in a jiffy.
  11. Man, no kidding. It seems strange that it's not tiered in that fashion. The motivation for Creative Cloud from what I perceive is to trade higher convenience and access for that monthly fee. Sure, buying a fixed price version of one program gets you that program forever, but paying the fee gets you all of the programs updated as long as you have it. Not to mention, people like subscriptions that don't have heavy upfront costs - when you're talking about a $300 program, paying $50 for a month of it seems like a steal. By offering these advantages at a relatively low price, it gets people to possibly stop pirating Adobe's pro software. However, with the state of creative consumer-grade products for Windows, I feel like someone would be just as likely to want to pirate a $100 version of Premiere Elements or Photoshop Elements when what they're hoping for is freeware or very cheap software. I'd almost certainly pay a $10-20 subscription for Elements versions of Pro software and maybe access to one or two of the programs that tie into them, rather than pro-grade software and EVERYTHING for $50 a month. As it is, I just ponied up $60 or something for Premiere Elements and didn't feel particularly happy to pay that much.
  12. I might be willing to give ODST Legendary a go, never got those co-op achievements and I think I'm only a couple away from a perfect score on that game. Only thing is, I'm not sure 1) I actually have Xbox Live right now, though I suppose that could be fixed with a 1-month card or something 2) I have a usable microphone, my 360 mic crapped out a long time ago and I'm not sure I still have a headset compatible. Maybe Kinect could work for voice? I dunno. Once I figure that stuff out, I theoretically would be into playing some stuff schedule permitting. I'm honestly not even sure what of those games I own on 360 at this point, I've done so much library shuffling (mostly been moving towards playing most console games from last-gen on PS3) that it's hard to keep track.
  13. Plug your shit

This is not plugging my own shit, but one of my friends recently started a YouTube channel that you guys should check out. The name of the site is Fish Tuxedo (http://fishtuxedo.com http://youtube.com/fishtuxedo). Him and his partner do a video every weekday - short, 2-minute news on Monday/Friday, medium length, 10-minute features on Tuesday/Thursday, and long, 20-minute discussions on Wednesday about whatever strikes their fancies. I think they're doing a good job so far and they could use all the support they can get. So liking, subscribing, whatever would all be helpful.
  14. I feel like this doesn't exist. I've tried quite hard to find something of this nature and everything seems like shareware or upsell material. Or it seems super old. You may be better off spending like $10-20 on last year's Premiere Elements or Sony Movie Studio than mucking around in that stuff. But maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am. I've just had to slum it with MM up until this point.

Specific metrics? Not really. I mostly just internalize what studios tend to drop game prices faster (Square Enix, Nordic Games, etc) and those I usually wait for <$10 pricing on original $60 games. Games like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed, which are annual titles that tend of hold price fairly well, I usually wait for $40 or something like that. In general, <$5 is impulse price for just about any game for me. I buy just about every Humble Bundle unless I own 80% of the games or something like that, and I also buy a lot of games on Amazon Warehouse Deals (which consistently gives me extremely lightly used games for 20-40% off weeks after release). Anyways, back to deals. This is a weird one, the Android version of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is $7 on the Amazon App Store. Not a remarkable price in itself, but it comes with $20 worth of "Amazon Coins" which can be used for any apps/games on the Amazon App Store or even in-app purchases for such apps - http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-San-Andreas/dp/B00HCU7OCI/ Considering I'm likely to get a Fire TV sometime soon, I'm probably going to grab it.
  17. Wow, lol Microsoft has made the Games with Gold program for Xbox One require an active subscription, just like PlayStation Plus - http://www.gamefly.com/news/article/230318/microsoft-announces-june-xbox-live-games-with-gold/#axzz31ddslNem Not that I think that's a horribly bad thing, it's just that Xbox reps have said that the reason they have had super old games on that service is because they had to work out these really special deals that would allow people to keep the games. Emphasis on keep. Yet another reversal that flies in the face of significant PR efforts.
  18. Weirdly enough, the main thing that still has me set on a PS4 is the value of PlayStation Plus versus Xbox Live Gold. It's pretty great that on day one of buying a PS4, I'll already have at least 4 or 5 games just because of PS+. No such thing is or likely will be true of the Xbox One since Games With Gold is, at least at this point, totally worthless to me.

I think it's a little silly to feel bad about having the free time and means to play games. Undoubtedly you earn money to afford it by working at a job? I'm sure there are people less fortunate than you, but you shouldn't feel bad because things worked out for you unless you're secretly some kind of public housing baron or gang leader that literally takes money out of people's pockets to fund your personal gaming empire.
  20. I don't know much about how it works, but everything I've heard suggests that the Kinect is pretty key to navigating the Xbox One's UI. I wonder if/how they'll adapt it to better accommodate a growing audience of Kinect-less users. Frankly, I'd be a lot more likely to buy an Xbox One if there was a Kinect-ful version for $400 in a year or so. A $400, feature-reduced version to match the price of a competitor is not a compelling offer to me.

I've found biking to be super expensive, though it's mostly an upfront cost situation. Re: the privilege thing, I think there's definitely a ton of ways to game inexpensively. I always see people in GameStop who at least outwardly seem less to-do than myself (I'm lower-middle class) doing just fine buying games from last generation or letting their kids buy one game under $20 per visit. Every time I visit a local Redbox nearly every game is rented out. Beside the point but the quintessential example, I've played Fallout 3 like 200+ hours so around a three dimes per hour of fun is pretty ridiculous in terms of cost per time. Obviously not every game is like that and not everyone is interested in games like that, but unless you go out of your way to find low playtime games I suspect its cheaper per hour to play games than to go to the movies on a regular basis not to mention resale value/used market.

I don't think you can say that games cost more money than other hobbies without explaining that theory.
  23. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

If you plan on playing the bad ones, you should also go out of your way to play the good ones. Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2 are super dope and I know a ton of other people here agree from prior discussions.
  24. Good modern golf game

Oh, good to know! He said that he might do one on the Bombcast, so I'm surprised it went up so fast.
  25. Good modern golf game

I've always liked Hot Shots Golf (PS3/PSV), but it's obviously on the more cartoony side. I also heard Drew on the Giant Bombcast talking up The Golf Club, an early access game on Steam that looks pretty darn slick - http://store.steampowered.com/app/269730/ If you want to hear Drew talk about it, he does it around the 13-minute mark on this week's (5/06/14) Giant Bombcast.
