Because the ex is a man and the "cheater" is a woman that lots of people like.

This is what was pissing me off most earlier in the conversation. Hearsay is not "proof" and should not be treated as such.

Yeah, some people have bemoaned the rise of cider but it's so much more tolerable than most beer for me. I do enjoy light beers, my local brewery that distributes to nearby restaurants has Killer Whale Cream Ale which I order whenever it's on tap. I'll also buy a Blue Moon or tell a bartender "give me something kinda like a Blue Moon". Sometimes if given the choice I will just order a mixed drink or liquor which I really do prefer, but I don't really know shit about mixed drinks so I'll often just go with beer to save myself the adult humiliation of ordering a whiskey and diet coke.

PlayStation Store is running flash deals over the weekend -

I think there's still some element of that, it comes with the territory for a network that budgets everything the same with the same relative scope. That said, when I first started watching it I wasn't aware it was a Syfy show and I only became suspicious that it was when I noticed the familiar actors I was familiar with. It is definitely network quality. Plus, it does some smart things writing-wise that make it feel a little less clunky - for instance, the story actually takes place in Vancouver so it doesn't feel inherently, ever so tangibly silly in the way that other shows do when they say it's taking place in Chicago or New York but have no landmarks, no comparable traffic, no blatantly high crime areas, etc.

Assuming you're talking about Continuum, because of what exactly? The dystopian future stuff? It really just serves as a backdrop for the series. There are maybe one or two episodes per season that focus on it, but more as a way to properly contextualize the way that the primary, current-day plot is progressing. If "that" is something else, let me know.

I really think the most ironic thing about all of this is that Ferguson and Gaza are going on right now and perfectly encapsulate how much of a pipedream video game journalism ethics are versus actual, real-world important journalism ethics. If we can't get regular media to properly report on Israel's genocide and the protests in front of CNN's building, focusing on small-time video game stuff is just absolutely ludicrous. Excuse my slight breach of "Idle Banter" into this thread with that.

Hm, I searched the topic and found no talk of a recent show I've been obsessed with, Continuum. It's a Syfy show, so it has a cast of actors you're sure to recognize if you're a fan of shows like Stargate or Battlestar Galactica. Basically, it depicts a future where corporations have basically taken over the world. Not an uncommon dystopian future, but Continuum starts off with a group of anti-corporation terrorists using a time travel device to come back to the present and try to undermine corporations before they get to be the big monolithic threats you can easily imagine. In their plot, they accidentally bring back a police officer working for the corporations who is the protagonist of the series. Anyways, without getting much farther into it I'll just tell you the best stuff - Female protagonist who isn't affected by a love interest. Very cool special effects/technology that errs on the side of science rather than fantasy. Really solid time travel exploration. I can't say this enough. It firmly takes a side on which popular time travel theory it adopts and then fully explores the implications of that theory. And I mean fully. Season 1 is more or less boilerplate crime drama plus sci-fi elements. Each successive season expands the scope of the series in a more sci-fi direction necessitated by the development of the plot. Morality stuff doesn't seem ridiculously contrived. Anyways, seasons 1-3 are on Netflix. It hasn't been announced whether it'll be renewed for season 4 or cancelled.

Phil and Polytron twitter accounts hacked and deactivated, Polytron website hacked, plethora of fake Phil accounts trolling Phil haters to hate him even more.

I bought a single one of the DLC packs so basically ugh.

Instead of buying Depression Quest, consider backing her on Patreon - http://www.patreon.com/zoe Strikes me as a more lasting show of support. Up to you either way.

So I had a lot of Steam Wallet funds, placed a buy order and accidentally -

I think he meant "coulis".

If you want to see the mind behind Infowars, Google Alex Jones's Piers Morgan interview in which he absolutely loses it.

Apparently CNN thought Ron Johnson was a gang member because he was throwing up "gang signs", which is a reason some people were stating he should be pulled off the Ferguson security post - Washington Post did a lot of intense investigative journalism to find out that it's just a sign that people of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity flash each other. Lol.

A friend from the UK was asking on Twitter why police are armed in the US and really the only answer I could give is that if they didn't have guns, they'd be in trouble because practically any criminal could have a gun. Some dude subtweeted at that point saying that not that many civilians have guns and it's hard to get a license to carry. I don't know my gun laws by heart but I know it's pretty damn easy to get a gun here in Florida, so I looked it up. You basically have to be over 18, pass a background check, not have a recorded medical illness, have enough money to afford a gun, fill out a form, and wait three days to have a gun. And it's just that easy to legitimately get a gun, let alone the plethora of other ways that are sure to be easier like gun shows and just straight up person-to-person untrackable transactions. No wonder police feel like they need to be so well armed. Doesn't make it right, but the insanely weak gun laws in this country make it partly necessary (though clearly not to this extreme).

Social Justice Witch Doctor. Oh nooooo I sidestepped into casual African stereotyping. I like that this has somehow become the topic in two banter threads. Anyways, re: the Jenn Frank thing. The first of her tweets last night regarding the reversal on her own MRA beliefs referenced a dude named Ryan Perez, which seemed a non sequitur. I saw in the string of replies that dude and then remembered that he was the one who wrote that Felicia Day article on Destructoid that called her a glorified booth babe (and got summarily fired and publicly shamed). He's still doing his veiled misogyny thing, btw. Anyways, it seems so tame an issue to have dealt with in comparison to some of the stuff women are dealing with in recent memory.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

To me it looks like he was indeed holding a knife, but he sure as shit wasn't 3-4 feet away from them and he wasn't lunging at them. Sure you could justify deadly force if the dude had a knife, but fucking 12 shots? And then the flip over his second-away-from-corpse body so they can cuff him? Seriously?

I'm pretty much done talking about this because the discussion here has been more infuriating than therapeutic or reaffirming (which generally is my experience in this thread). I'm capping it off with this writeup by everyone's favorite SJW, Patrick Klepek, who manages to hit the ethics thing tastefully and really covered all of my arguments in the best possible way - http://patrickklepek.tumblr.com/post/95293807754/im-sure-youve-been-asked-already-but-how-do-you-feel In completely different news, there's a new Storybundle that includes a compilation of the first six issues of Five out of Ten, a great independent emag with a lot of great writers including some of my favorite female journos like Maddy Myers and Samantha Allen - http://storybundle.com/

I don't really want to hear your arguments anymore.

I wish I was an artist so I could make really cool painted renditions of game journalists/developers as "Social Justice Warriors" or "White Knights" in Diablo and Final Fantasy styling (respectively).

The harassment is readily apparent if you look at the replies to literally any tweet of hers. Or on the Steam page for Depression Quest. In terms of invasion of privacy, there were 4chan threads (maybe not anymore) and pastebin articles listing her personal details and Mega links to caches of pictures and information about her. I think the language "apparently legitimate concerns" needs to be observed.

As far as I know, there is literally no proof of anything you're talking about. The "proof" I saw that she hooked up with Grayson is a Vine of her hanging out with him. Seriously? If I created a one-time use blog, claimed to be an ex-girlfriend of Brian Crescente and made an unfounded allegation that he slept with PR women for improved coverage, would he then be instantly open season for people doxing him? Hacking all of his friends email accounts to turn up evidence? This is insane. I seriously have no idea why the scumbags that orchestrated this deserve any degree of legitimacy just because they claim to be doing something for ethical reasons.
