College seems so awful for women. Rape culture at peak saturation University bureaucracy/police means that trying to do anything about ^^^ is impossible Patriarchy drives you to humanities/arts majors Economic factors means that you don't actually get paid anything for degrees in anything but sciences Ugh.

Yeah, that's what I meant... I don't know how they could track all the disparate IR signals. Particularly if the goal of the ones built into Crystal Cove are meant for very specific positional tracking where any inaccuracy could cause some serious head movement desync and induce motion sickness. It would definitely be interesting if they could pull it off, though.
-
Yeah, the Leap probably won't be compatible with the consumer (latest publicly shown version code named 'Crystal Cove') version because they've shown it having IR emitters that will contribute positional information that will improve the general VR experience. As it is, all of the movement of the Rift is tracked by a gyroscope and accelerometer, so the only recordings are relative movements. With the IR added, it can track where you are in relation to your original position, meaning it can track if you're sitting vs standing, or leaning back or forward. This reduces the amount of "mouse look" required which should make it feel more responsive to your movements and reduce that disconnect between what you're actually doing and what's being portrayed on screen.

... should I just make that Google Calendar thing? I feel like it's not going to happen if this thread hits a new page.

I wish I could regenerate like a Borg.

I drool no matter what position I sleep in.

I don't think it muddies the water, I think it has unified all the people who are doing things I don't agree with under one self-claimed banner. I guess it would be bad for people who had mixed thoughts on harassment and/or sexism and/or ethical questions and/or wanting shitty, samey games, but I have a problem with them all so I'm fine having them all take up the label proudly.

Sony is building in PS4 Remote Play into their Xperia phones - http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/3/6097257/sonys-xperia-z3-and-z3-compact-ps4-remote-play Super cool and a much better strategy to getting core gaming onto mobile devices than what they were doing with the PlayStation Mobile stuff.

Notable things to know about Samsung's "device" - the device is actually the Galaxy Note 4 smartphone coupled with a harness equipped with lenses and whatnot to enable the 3D/VR experience. As such, it doesn't interface with a PC at this point and I doubt it will because not having it physically tethered through a PC as a specific display device will mean latency like crazy. Right now Samsung has a few small proof of concept apps for the phone, but this will require a whole new ecosystem of apps (that may or may not be crosscompatible with PC) to be a notable device. As it is, I imagine it feels like not much more than a tech demo.

I heard that when Agents intersected with the Thor and Captain America movie plotline events, it got a bit better. I feel like that show suffered a lot from the 22-episode network season length. If it was a tighter 13 episodes or something, they wouldn't need so much filler crap. I'll probably end up picking it back up and finishing the season.

CORRUPTION IN GAMES AHHHHHHHHHHH

PewDiePie has shut down comments on his YouTube channel. Though not strictly pertaining to feminism/sexism, I think this is a really great move away from that toxic environment to places with at least slightly more accountability like Twitter or Reddit.

It's going to be hard to find software that will 1) let everyone access it without any credentials 2) let everyone add events 3) have some sort of embedding function that's actually compatible with these forums. I like the idea of Google Calendar because it's the only software I'm aware of and if I'm not mistaken that you can actually add events if you don't have a Google account. Plus, I'd guess that it's the only calendar-type thing that a majority of people already use or almost use through use of Gmail already.

ARG for Depression Quest 2.

That should be possible with Google Calendar. That'd also be super nice as compared to the haphazard way we seem to be doing it now.

I like how they're seemingly surprised that their movement is attracting only right-wing support, as though the basis of their "movement" isn't conservative bordering on fascist to begin with.

As someone that works in nonprofit, I'd say that no particular generalization applies to that group. There are empathetic people and there are assholes, just like anywhere else. The empathetic people will find themselves working harder to achieve the mission of the nonprofit, while the assholes will do what's necessary to meet deliverables for grants.

Amazon is running a huge "end of summer sale" for PC, some really great deals to be had. It ran through the weekend and ends today!

I've muted people re: this Feminist thread, but I would be hesitant to call anyone here misogynist. Frankly, I'd hesitate to call many people misogynist without giving it serious thought. Really, a lot of people are just deluded by the patriarchy embedded in modern culture and can't easily see past it. As far as I can tell, it was only females that were targeted. As a result however some males were captured in the net, most notably Kate Upton's boyfriend who I think is some hockey player - Justin Verlander.
-
So, nude/personal pictures of ~100 celebrities have been spread online by someone who hacked their iCloud accounts. Tons of celebrities have been targeted, including most notably Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton. This kind of shit gets me really annoyed, because it plays into celebrity culture where nobody's privacy is sacred and people in the public spotlight are "asking for it". Add that to the fact that there are women who've been violated, PLUS add that it was due to hacking of a relatively insecure online storage service and you have a recipe for shit. I was commenting on The Verge's story, where all of the entitled men feel it's their duty to inform women that putting nudes in their iCloud accounts is a stupid idea and it's no surprised they were violated. My comment has since been deleted (it was part of a thread where the root guy was a huge asshole), but I just figured I'd copy and paste it here since it's my overall feeling on the issue:

Re #1 - No, the 3DS doesn't support SNES Virtual Console games yet. Here's a list of what's supported, but it's basically all NES/GB-generation games - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_for_Nintendo_3DS_(North_America) Re #3 - From what I know, the point most vulnerable to break on Nintendo's handhelds has been the hinge since the GBA SP. I have no personal experience with the 2DS, but I'd hazard to guess that lacking a hinge would make it very comparatively resilient.

Apparently, cheating is was really pervasive in grade school in Cambodia. Last year, 87% of students passed their final grade 12 exam. This year, the Ministry of Education cracked down on cheating with a crazy result. 93,000+ students tested and 11 got an A. Not 11%, 11 students. 25% passed overall. I didn't even know cheating could get that bad, but... goddamn - http://www.phnompenhpost.com/post-weekend/three-quarters-students-receive-failing-mark

I think it's because women who are thought to beat their wives (rednecks) can often be spotted only wearing an undershirt.

That guy probably decided to bring back the ghost of Tortanic because it fits with the narrative of EA "using LGBT issues to mask their shitty games".

I don't even know what that is.
