App.net? Is that still a thing? Does it still cost money? Is it still basically Twitter?

Apparently, people with verified accounts have had success reporting abuse for a third-party. But the blatant preferential treatment given to verified accounts really doesn't help either, as rallying those people to help is practically impossible.

Where are you getting the impression that traditional games press is afraid (you said fear) of YouTubers? The only thing I've seen regarding that relationship is that traditional press sometimes reports on how YouTubers are paid for coverage of games and how that's a threat to ethical journalism, which is substantiated and valid.

Yeah, I believe you can mute them but it's a relatively new feature. Also, it's not something that comes to mind immediately because you also do get some good responses intermixed at times but it's a crapshoot in total.

Yeah, here's an example of that (not harassment, but the notifications) - So if someone harasses a person that was replying to something you posted at some point along the line, you get notifications every time that tweet is retweeted or favorited.

If my Dad was the Pope, there would be an actual conspiracy and nepotism of the highest proportions (I work at Catholic Charities).

I guess this is probably more relevant to another thread, but whatever - I only make jokes because most of the people making the claims have literally no idea what they're talking about. I do think it's a real problem just not in 99% of the cited contexts by the raving mobs of Twitter folk. It doesn't excuse the jokes altogether, but the other part of it is I'm just tired of hearing the refrain when it's just a straw man. I do feel a little odd getting this promotion because I'm really not qualified, but I imagine there are other factors for my employment aside from favoring internal hires including the fact that I haven't finished my education which means they can pay me less than someone much more qualified.

This is the same dude that wrote the Letter to a Young Male Gamer thing, so I'm not surprised that he has a reductive view of the situation.

I got tagged on a lot of scumbag posts after Jim Sterling retweeted me and his lovely band of critics saw fit to respond. It was not good times.

Idle Interviews #2 Chris Remo (Musician, designer)
JonCole replied to maximusfuller's topic in Video Gaming
There were plenty of scoops in maximus's last interview - https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/9582-idle-interviews-1-sean-vanaman-designer-writer/ -

This interview really boosts my opinion of Mr. Remo. -
He tweets a lot, if you could give me an idea of when the rant started I can make a storify later. I don't know where to start and I'm just viewing from my phone which isn't ideal.

It just got announced within my agency that I'm going to be promoted to a new position, so I feel like it's actually happening now. I got approached a few weeks ago about a database management position opening up in the regional office that operates above the local office where I work. I'm moving away from an entry-level admin job that I've been in for about two years now and am getting a respectable pay bump that'll let me do more than just pay the bills. I don't really know much about database stuff, but I'm the most technically-minded person working in the agency at this moment so I guess I was the prime internal candidate. (CORRUPTION!!! CRONYISM!!!) As a result, they're also encouraging me to go back to school (I was about two years into an undergrad degree) where they'll reimburse me if I take DB-related classes. I was previously doing Computer Science, so I'm going to enroll in the local university and see if they have an IT track or investigate changing my major. Anyways, everything seemed to line up with this job just as I was starting to get a little restless. I'm so excited.

So, input needed - it seems I was mistaken about Google Calendar, it seems that you really can only add events if you have a Google Calendar account. I still think it's probably the best service for this thing, but I am bias because I use Google services. Would people still want to use it if it required having a Google account?

I actually made one but I'm trying to figure out the permissions and settings stuff. Also how/where I'm going to post it.

I'm not really arguing with you, I just think I was tying a moral issue with an economic issue and it wasn't doing the latter any favors. I don't think it's fair that women are societally encouraged to move toward fields where they make jack shit or away from the fields where real money is made. Whether or not women are well represented in some science fields is largely irrelevant to my actual point, I just said "sciences vs humanities" as a lazy shorthand.

Newegg is selling a pack of Rayman games for PC/UPlay for $15 that includes Rayman 2 and 3, Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, and Rayman Raving Rabbids.

Well, I kinda doubt that 50% of PhD in sciences is analogous to representation in undergrad. You really don't need a PhD or even a Masters in many sciences to net a job in many of the computer science and mechanical engineering companies I've researched in my college-going past, so I think the undergrad gender makeup and employment rate is more relevant to my broad point.

Yeah... if Microsoft can't get developers to make anything good for something as mature as Kinect that was bundled with the first few million Xbox Ones sold, I can't imagine anyone will make anything that will work with this insane combination of stuff even if there is a bundle of some sort.

I'll make the calendar when I get home (if I don't forget, ahhhhhhhhh). On another on-topic random thought topic, my PS Nav controller arrives today in the mail. I am excite!
