  1. Ello.co

Yeah, it's apparently a hoax. I still got some good lols out of it, either way.
  2. Recently completed video games

I genuinely don't know if this is a good or bad thing.
  3. Idle Food - Cooking!

I use one that I found in a cookbook - 2.25 cups bread flour 1 tsp yeast 1.5 tsp salt 0.75 cup warm water 1 tbsp olive oil Sift flour, combine with yeast and salt, then combine with water and oil. Knead for 10 minutes (though I do less because my wimpy hands still can't knead for 10 minutes continuously) then rest at room temperature for a few hours at least, overnight is also fine.
  4. Idle Food - Cooking!

I've been making my own dough for months now and I still haven't found one that I like. I'm thinking about buying 00 flour as I heard that might help. I dunno.

I definitely think that abortion rights are a class-based issue as well as a gender-based one. Laws like that directly impact impoverished families, because in Penn. there is a waiting period for abortions as well as a required class before the the abortion can be administered. What that means is that one day they have to go to the clinic, drive back home, wait 24 hours, drive back to the clinic, attend a class, drive back home. The drive to the nearest clinic in this particular case would have been at least 45 minutes, which would effectively mean that the parent would have to probably miss two whole days of work. For a working class family who lives paycheck to paycheck, two days of work can mean an eviction or the lights going off.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure it's not an automatic ban. Some people have reported that they have used the tag and not gotten banned, so they conclude that it must be a fake screenshot. I take it as this guy was saying hateful shit, they banned him, and when they filled the "we banned you for ________ reason" email they filled the field with #gamergate.
  7. Ello.co

Seems real, found the source -
  8. Ello.co

Ello is actually kinda blowing up right now, apparently, since Facebook has been disabling accounts where drag artists/LGBTQs are not using their real names and those people are subsequently moving to Ello. Also, hahahahahhahahaha -
  9. Destiny

More disappointing than the loot cave is this - I didn't know you could do that, but if I had known that farming Queen's Wrath gear could result in salvaged rare upgrade materials I'd have been doing it like crazy. I desperately need ascendant shards and energy.
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

I don't know how you people have multiple things in front pockets. I have some jeans with bigger pockets, but all my work pants have relatively small pockets. As such, I usually roll with phone left front, keys right front, wallet right back. I also perpetually need to clean out my wallet because it gets too big to sit on.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Frankly, the fact that they could put together a 5 minute radio piece on it that was moderately coherent was a feat in itself. I think it captured the essential bits to people looking in; conflating the Quinnspiracy with Gamergate seems to actually get to the root of the matter more honestly than explaining every step of the way would.
  12. Other podcasts

It seems to me like one of those attitudes that works until it doesn't. Maybe Dan has just really not been challenged in his life in any significant way. For me, that "work hard/get lucky until you make it" mentality faded away around the time I had a pile of debt and was taking differential equations in university. I imagine that moment probably takes place far earlier for minorities who are challenged in ways that there's no easy solution to like persecution. If you're a straight white male with a lick of smarts in middle America, you have to go out of your way to find a stumbling block.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

The iPhone 6 Plus apparently bends if you sit on it in your back pocket. Because no shit it's huge and super thin, also why the hell would you sit on your $800 pocket computer you dumbass? Anyways, the best part is that the hashtag that has come of this is #bendghazi, which is solid gold internet+++ yessss.
  14. Destiny

That's not how it functions for me... it only shows that every time a new upgrade is available. So if I haven't applied the second of five upgrades but then the third one is also unlocked, it'll pop up that notification again. But once I look at it, it clears the mark both on my inventory screen and the orbit screen. It wasn't me doing not enough damage, it was them killing me almost instantly. A hobgoblin snipe was almost one-shotting me and some of the Vex missions like to roll out four or five of them at once.
  15. Destiny

I've just began harvesting every spinmetal-type item I see no matter how far away it is when I see it if I'm doing patrol for a bounty. I also investigate every spawn cave just in case there's a chest that may contain more of those upgrade items.
  16. Destiny

I tried a Queen's Wrath mission solo and it was the absolute worst. I'd like to take another shot at one if I could get a fireteam together tonight. Also, finally turned a legendary engram into a legendary item! Twice! One was a class item for Warlocks, which is kinda lame. The second engram turned into a nice slow auto rifle which is great. I also got the Dead Orbit autorifle from hitting Rank 3, which has an insane rate of fire that's kinda hard to control but shreds through PvE. I'll be keeping both auto rifles since they feel quite different. I also got Dead Orbit boots, so I'm halfway to a full legendary set and a couple light points away from Level 26. Anyone else see the post on Polygon about the crazy dude who hit level 30? - http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/23/6833657/Destiny-level-30
  17. Steam Curation!

I wonder if there's someone who actually doesn't use Steam for buying and downloading games, but instead just uses it as a chat client, research tool for buying games physically at Gamestop, and just buys trading cards and makes badges because they look cool.
  18. Feminism

Maybe this is just me, but I really don't think that most games are nuanced enough to properly satirize gender stuff. Also, I don't find the American/Western vs Japanese thing compelling because honestly the Japanese market is puny nowadays and most games that are targeted specifically to Japanese don't get localized. Basically, don't do big boob and/or panty jokes and expect to not get some criticism.
  19. Destiny

Yeah, same here. Had a friend in Guild Wars that could solo the final boss really quickly that would drop a rare material item every time without fail. We'd just go and shoot the shit with him, plus he would take along a few scrub randos who would pay him to do it. Grinding "exploits" is practically essential to MMO culture.
  20. Steam Curation!

Not to divert too much into ethics talk, but TotalBiscuit caught some flak for putting Planetside 2 on his list with a disclaimer that he was paid to promote it. He's since removed it because of all the cries of conflict of interest, but it just leads me to think now that it'll happen in a more invisible, implicit way. I mean, more or less exactly like how other YouTube LPers and creators are paid to promote things behind the scenes but are reticent to disclose. I guess props to him for fixing things, but his line of "this is totally new, there is no code of ethics" just makes me think that he should have thought it out just slightly more before he went and did it to begin with. With great power comes great responsibility and all that. Here is his response - http://www.twitlonger.com/show/ngf40m
  21. Destiny

Yeah, color me similarly unbothered by that GIF. I guess it may actually impact me when I do Iron Banner stuff in October, but there's not really a loot economy for PvP - from what I can tell, all of the stat bars are relatively balanced and even legendaries/exotics don't have such gamebreaking special attributes that I'm negatively impacted by other dudes spending hours shooting continuously into a cave. For PvE, I don't know why I should be bothered what other people are doing and I don't want to do it too much myself because 1) it's boring 2) it doesn't pay off THAT much, at least in my experience.
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Well yeah, if they talked about Steam Curation being problematic they'd have to talk about one of their trinity of YouTube gods TotalBiscuit putting games on his list for promotional purposes.
  23. Destiny

I almost always kill at least two enemies with the Titan super, but I mostly play Control where you can tell if there are multiple guys attacking a point based on how quickly it's being captured. The wave is super nice, but not really for PvP as I think the wave does reduced damage as compared to actually being in the epicenter (so I don't think the wave is a one-hit kill in PvP). I'd be down.
  24. Destiny

I've had a pretty decent time in the Strike playlists. Some guys aren't great, others want to go through it pretty quickly, but I've mostly gotten pretty cooperative teams who quickly revive me if I'm down, can show me a few tricks on certain levels now and then, etc. I can see myself playing a fair amount of Destiny going forward riding mostly on the back of that playlist, daily/weekly events, bounties, and Crucible. I've also gotten a little better at Crucible. I've been giving the FFA/Rumble type some of my time, which has been interesting. I usually don't like those modes, but the various abilities make it so you can do some really crazy chaining of kills when every person on the map is a bad guy. For instance, I have a skill where I can do a rushing attack after a brief time of sprinting that assures a one-hit kill. I can rush, take out one guy, another two guys round the corner both half damaged, I take out one with a shotgun and one with my melee special. Two other guys enter the room from two directions, I use my Titan special attack to take everyone out in my vicinity. It doesn't happen every game, but that series of encounters that can take place in the span of 10 seconds is absolutely exhilarating. Also, Bladedancer is bananas in Rumble.
  25. Disneyland/Disney World

Disney World/Orlando Tourism pro-tip - if you find that in the middle of your vacation there's a day where there's a fair chance of rain but only for a limited time, plan on doing something that's often very busy. I've often found myself in a theme park in the rain as it rains all the goddamn time here and if it comes down somewhat hard for any length of time there are always a large amount of people that decide to leave the park. If you can find it in yourself to wait it out, it really pays off. I found myself at Universal's Islands of Adventure and I was able to burn through rollercoasters right after a 20-minute rain storm - I went on Dueling Dragons (now reskinned as a dragon-based Harry Potter rollercoaster) 4 times, twice on each track in the front and back. I also did The Hulk twice, the Spiderman experience, and Dr. Doom's Freefall. All of that in the span of about an hour. Lines picked up by the end, but man was it a great compressed bit of fun. Around the time I went, The Hulk and Spiderman would both regularly have 45-60 minute wait times and the other two would have at least 15 minute lines. Also, if anyone's ever in Orlando and wants to hang out let me know! I live a couple hours away now, but I lived in the suburbs of Orlando for my whole childhood and know some nice spots around the town if you want to take a day off from the attractions.
