I feel like my problem isn't with nerd culture per se, but rather with nerd identity. We're all subject to nerd culture, but the people who are defined by their nerdiness are truly repellent to me. It's the people who see nerd culture being co-opted by popular culture and now feel they have the authority to decide what aspects of culture are right and wrong.

We were staying in Partille, visited Gothenburg and walked about the city a bit. Visited Liseberg where we won 2kg of Schweizer not and 3kg of Aladdin/Paradis and saw some reindeer, which was fun. Went to the Natural History Museum and Aeroseum, as far as other attractions go. We also shot up to Norway to see Fredriksten fortress.

Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism
JonCole replied to Architecture's topic in Video Gaming
To be fair, Cara has recently been talking about wanting to settle down as her Embed Project comes to a close and she doesn't want to be a nomad for much longer. In Giant Bomb-related news, their panel at Pax South is bumping right up against a Women in Geek Media panel and I feel like I'm having a moral crisis. -
Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism

Who is going to be their moral center now? Nobody else seems particularly interested in stepping outside the white middle-class male perspective they inherently have. Not to make this too Social Justice-y, I guess I'm just hoping more than ever that their next hire or two are more progressive and active in the broader community. -
I have seen some Reddit subs where people are looking for roommates, could be a place to poke around. I generally don't love Reddit, but the broad center of it seems okay and worth tapping into.

I used to listen to Thom Hartmann for this (I don't know if he's still doing what he was doing, I used to listen to his satellite radio show) because while he's not a scholar, he was a bit of a self-taught political historian who provided some admittedly progressive but context-rich commentary. I also liked his show because he'd invite a co-host for every show and about half of his co-hosts were of an opposing political persuasion.

It's a surprisingly savvy, if not hacky, way of doing it -

I hope you can take some small ironic pleasure in the fact that you typed "crysis" instead of "crisis".

My embarrassing level of enthusiasm in unboxing my Wii U has been dashed by the 2+ hour process of setting it up and updating it. Nifty that they included the system update on the pack-in games like Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 so you don't have to download them, though.

That snowstorm was the first time I had seen snow since I was four and I can barely remember that at all. Gothenburg got about 2 inches that night, don't really know how significant a storm that constitutes. It was indeed crazy.

I actually drove in snow for the first time this past week during my trip to Sweden. Scary stuff, I was in the middle of a snowstorm so there wasn't a ton of snow on the ground but there was plenty in my windshield. Had studded tires but that didn't help me from skidding just a little bit now and then. My experience was limited there, but driving in a serious Florida thunderstorm has scared me much more. Hydroplaning is awful, I've done it a handful of times with no serious consequences but it's put a pit in my stomach every time. Only thing to do in that situation is to pump the brakes and hope you catch a little traction instead of panicking and slamming the brakes to engage ABS. I also lost a car to flooding in a way, drove on a road during a long storm here and the car stalled. After letting it dry out for a few hours it was driveable, but enough of the components were shot that it had things failing left and right so I traded it in before it went kaput.

Spelunky is the most immediate example that comes to mind.

Effectively. I don't want to go off-topic in this thread, but I'm sure you can find plenty to show that he is in the Ethics thread in Banter.

TB has been the top curator since day one, unfortunately. Edit: Oh, you were talking about the Curator called "GG Recommends" or whatever? That's not the top curator, though it is in the recommended curator list. Ugh.

I usually don't even eat tostadas as intended because I'm so anxious about it breaking or me messing up my clothes. Usually just destroy them with a fork and knife and eat it like a meat salad. That looks super delicious, though.

Guys holy shit Broadchurch. Binged it in two days on Netflix. So good. Highly recommended, probably the best thing I've watched all year.

For some reason I can't find you, tried searching under people and typing that into the steamcommunity.com/id/??? thing and neither worked.
-
I'll get back to you on that. Can you even initiate a trade on the Steam website and not in-client?

Anyone have a spare 3 gems I could have? I have **97, which is a pain to get rid of. Speedrunners is a flash deal which I'm buying immediately. Dark Souls 2 is also tempting at $15, was going to hold out for the PS4 version but I might just grab this now.

Thank you. I seriously thought I lost it.

Am I losing my mind? I thought that there was a game called "Dropkick" where it's a two-person fighting game where you can only jump and dropkick. Each player has one HP and you can select from different characters who can do dumb stuff like teleport or dropkick upwards but it's ultimately just dropping and kicking. Is this real? I'm trying to search for it and I'm getting nothing.

I've heard of deep dive often before, but not really abused in the fashion you mention. The main context I've heard it used in is the earnest one you mention - a more or less "complete" examination of something. Maybe Twitter has messed this up? I guess I could imagine a context which someone would explain something that is more than 140 characters as a "deep dive".
-
My strategy has been to snipe the top spot in the last 3 minutes, then put in an increased bid by about 10% of my top bid just so people will have a hard time taking it back from me in that window. So for like Heavy Bullets, I put in a top bid of 4600 at 3 minutes then shortly after put in an increased bid of 5250. They tried to snipe it back from me, but I guess they gave up at 5100.

Still watching Nikita (almost done with Season 2) and I still love it. Started watching Broadchurch, which was mentioned in the best TV shows thread. That show is pretty sweet! I did a search for the show in this thread and saw that weird Gracepoint trailer. That is totally bizarre. But I'm loving Broadchurch and want to just watch it all tonight in some dumb marathon. Also, Girls Season 2 was painfully awkward. My wife and I decided to stop watching it after that dumb season. Is Season 3 really improved enough for me to reconsider that decision? S2 was just not fun to watch at all, and not in an artful way (at least in my opinion).
