  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Because I closed my personal Netflix account and just started a profile on my wife's account a few months ago. Netflix doesn't know me yet.

Looks like Sherlock is safe, so I guess I should have said "much of BBC's catalog" -
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

Netflix is seemingly taking all of BBC's catalog off of their service on February 1 and I just finished the TV series I've been watching for weeks (Nikita, I still love it), so I'm taking this opportunity to dive into that backlog with purpose. I'm almost through series 1 of Luther which I've been enjoying very much, I hope that having heard that it gets worse as time goes on will allow me to enjoy it all the way through with tempered expectations.

Here is the full discussion - https://twitter.com/chrisremo/status/517848536759562241 He's effectively saying that misogyny is not the problem, internet trolling is.
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    2. Due to how Twitter only really lets you see Tweets from the last couple months, some of this conversations aren't possible for me to retrieve. That being said, TB attributed a lot of the "controversy" and "misinformation" re: Zoe Quinn to how news sites shut down comments on related posts. I honestly can't recall if he used the exact word censorship, but I do think that it was harmful for him to have essentially prioritized the ravings of the comments sections over the voices of Quinn/Grayson/Totilo/whoever else wrote about this stuff. 4. This is my inference based on his YouTube conversation with Stephen Totilo. I'd listen to it again to find proof for you, except that listening to him incessantly paw at Totilo for 1.5 hours is barely preferable to pulling out my own fingernails. Essentially, he questioned Totilo on every single major complaint that GGers had with regards to GameJournoPros as though they were all worthwhile. My only conclusion is that he honestly believes that reviewers asking each other how best to cover a news topic or whatever is actually contributing to some greater corruption. 5.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Things Thumbs took issue with TB saying (probably not all of it, my memory isn't that good) - He said that Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkeesian, and other women should not take death threat seriously because, I guess, he's been threatened too and he's learned from that experience (I’m also not going to claim [the threats] were credible, because, well, to put it bluntly, Anita is still breathing." He believes that shutting down comments sections on news or opinion posts is censorship. He believes that ethics amounts to investigating statements from Zoe Quinn and Nathan Grayson, because they and their editors cannot be trusted (Grayson says there was no relationship/article overlap, Totilo believes him, TB says that's not good enough) He believes that a mailing list between journalists is ultimate proof of systemic corruption He said that misogyny is not a problem in the gaming industry He believes that he's both a journalist and not a journalist

I gave Isometric a second shot relatively recently and again unsubscribed due to Brianna. While I find her to be a good advocate for a part of the industry that I think is important, I'd really prefer the Isometric podcast and not the Brianna Wu podcast w/ recurring guests. Eager to listen to the new JP!
  13. Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism

She's an independent game developer who participates in a lot of game jams. She also co-founded Code Liberation, a group that holds free game dev classes for women in NYC. She had a good interview about it at RPS, if memory serves.
  14. Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism

Can this be a general industry hiring/firing/moving topic? If not, I'll dig up that Business Thread and cut/paste this over. If so, Nina Freeman has been hired by Fullbright to work on Tacoma. The guys that run Kinda Funny - Greg Miller, Colin Moriarty, Nick Scarpino, and Tim Gettys - have all quit their jobs at IGN to work full time on Kinda Funny which will now include games coverage now that they're decoupled from their day jobs. Max Scoville, previously of Rev3Games and Destructoid, has filled one of those vacated positions at IGN. Seems natural given that Brian Altano is now IGN's most prominent personality and they already work together on The Comedy Button.

  16. Nintendo 3DS

It's amazing how shit the Tetris license is in the US/EU. I'd kill for the JP Tetris games like Grand Masters or Puyo Puyo, unfortunately I don't have an Xbox One and the 3DS is region locked so I'm out of luck.

  18. Backlog Busters

Great job actually sticking to it Dewar! I don't think I've yet stuck to a gaming resolution. Nonetheless, I'm going to try it again. With my recent acquisition of a Wii U and desire to eventually get an Xbox One to complete my current gen console collection, I've resolved to formally "retire" my old consoles by completing some percentage of my backlog for each to my satisfaction. This is an admittedly broad goal, but I'm hoping it'll be attainable as a result. Right now I'm focusing on the 360. My goal is to burn through about 10 games during the next few months so that it can be pulled from my main entertainment system. There may be some place for it in the future, but I want to take it out of the rotation. I have a ton of 360 games that I haven't completed or finished playing, but my goal is to get through (finish or put a serious attempt in and quit) the following: Forza Horizon Fable: Anniversary Gears of War: Judgment (main campaign previously completed, want to beat again at a higher difficulty + complete GoW3 expansion campaign) Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise Soul Calibur V SSX Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Halo 4 (legendary, Spartan Ops) Dishonored Once I'm done with that, I'll turn to the Wii and then the PS3. I already had to unplug my Wii to accommodate my Wii U, I'd rather just free up these ports and pave the way for the future.
  19. An email I sent to Giantbomb

Your previous reply to me was with regards to a post where I both gave him the benefit of the doubt on the half-year positivity tweet and criticized the subsequent tweet. I'm not "out to get" Dan. I don't think he's a bad guy. I do think that he doesn't take great care in what he's saying. I also think that he has some beliefs that are tainted with privilege and could hurt some people who don't have it as good as him. The reason I'm so critical at all is because he has a big following and he's the newest member of a community that I really care about. This kinda stuff really puts me off. When I was weighing whether or not I should attend Giant Bomb's PAX South panel versus another one, it took my wife to remind me that I'm a huge fan of that site and have been for years. I'm not happy to be conflicted about GB lately, I really just wish they could be more relevant to the broader gaming community that I care about.

I bought - Pinball Arcade: Season One Table Pack FINAL FANTASY XIII The Banner Saga Halo: Spartan Assault Ziggurat Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series Magicite Dark Souls II Mount Your Friends Sportsfriends Divekick Much more than I was planning to buy, but I didn't spend too much so I'm happy. I also immediately got use out of Divekick, Sportsfriends, and Mount Your Friends with Xmas family gaming.
  21. An email I sent to Giantbomb

What's funny is that wasn't even the tweet that I thought you guys were talking about, which made me really confused about the conversation as it went on. I thought you were talking about this one, which struck me as Ryckert-dumb in a different way. Namely, that all games have to be a fun escape and that there's not really place for games that tackle difficult topics or handle things in nuanced ways that aren't blatantly enjoyable. I think it was pretty clear that he was talking about his own half-year. I don't think anyone moderately responsible with friends in the industry that could have been affected by GG could talk about the half-year and say it was positive.

You should get rid of that link. It was put on that forum so scammers wouldn't know about it at first blush.
  23. 4K is good for normal desktop tasks too, that's mostly why I want one. Plus the futureproofing aspect of when a video card can eventually support it for games. The one video games linked is pretty good, though. Pretty much all of Dell's Ultrasharp series are IPS and VESA-compatible, you could get this 1080p model for £200 - http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&sku=884968 If you bump your budget to sub-£300, you could get this 1440p BenQ monitor - http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-GW2765HT-LED--inch-Monitor/dp/B00M913DVG/ Both of those seem pretty well reviewed and within the parameters that you're looking for, minus price for the second.
  24. Life

Aeroseum is very much worth checking out! You can climb inside the cockpit of a jet, inside the exhaust of a jet, and can be hoisted up a lift that is used for coast guard rescues. My brother-in-law says that he only learned about it recently himself, as it's a relatively inconspicuous landmark being an underground bunker and all. I was sad (?) to miss the conjoined twins, I didn't know it had been removed until we walked up to the case. I can see why it'd be removed, but I was already expecting to see it so my hopes (?) were up.
