So, Nintendo has had a ton of good sales lately and now I find myself with a crapload of Club Nintendo points. I also discovered a handful of unredeemed vouchers in old DS games and in my Wii Deluxe box (which is amazing because I bought it used). I'm just one game away from being able to get the puzzle or messenger bag and I don't really know if I should go for them. I'd be tempted by some of the 3DS downloadable retail games, but I prefer to buy my games physically so my wife can play them if she'd like. Damn you video games for thwarting my every instinct in collecting crap.

Am I the only one who thinks that Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is a really sinister movie with brutal, joyful killings of children? I could never understand why people liked it so much. It's weird, in hindsight I really can't think of a lot of family/kids movies that I actually liked when I was a kid. Disney movies resonated with me, but that's about it.

It is very much not an HD remake, it was released around the time where the size limits were in place on the 360 and was notable for breaking them but only by a small margin. I believe that some of the cutscenes were taken out of the NA/EU version to size it down. That said, it's a pretty good version of the game. I played it for a bit, but found it a lot more inscrutable than the generally straightforward Super Metroid. I was thinking about getting the PSP release of Dracula X Chronicles, it comes with SOTN and had all the cutscenes in place along with some reworked stuff if memory serves.

I get the impression that integrating any online stuff with VC is something Nintendo would never do. I could see them putting LeafGreen/FireRed on Wii U VC vanilla, though.

Yeah, my brother-in-law bought Puyo Puyo as soon as it came out and we played it a bit over Christmas. It's pretty fun and when Play-Asia got some more in stock I ordered a copy. Can't wait for it to arrive! Basically all the JP Tetris games wreck NA games, I'm also a pretty big fan of Tetris: The Grand Master Ace for Xbox 360.

Dead Island Guh, I don't really know why I beat this. It literally just ticked all the boxes of games that I theoretically enjoy, but it also just doesn't do anything particularly interesting and all the mechanics really just grew tiring in the first 5 or 6 hours of this 30-something (good god) hour game. The story is complete nonsense and the game ends with a boss battle that's disproportionately difficult and dumb. So yeah, do yourself a favor and if you want to play this game just go through the first act or so and then put it down. The mechanics are worth checking out and the basic structure of the game is decent, but man is it poorly paced, buggy, and stupid. I mostly played it because I thought I wasn't going to get to play Dying Light for a while, and then Gamefly decided to send it to me against all odds and now I fully regret my decision to get as far into Dead Island as I did.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I don't really get what's happening in that screenshot. Is the window just partially off the screen or something? FWIW, I think that the fullscreen stuff doesn't happen in the main menu and that's why there's that weird designed border. Could be wrong, though. -
Today I learned that when you search a hashtag, Twitter shows you posts from people you've blocked. How dumb is that shit?

I don't think it's a difficulty thing for me much like I don't think Dark Souls is a difficulty thing. Games like Shovel Knight and to a much greater extent SMB require you to master the mechanics to a fine point and I just don't like platforming and those SK's 2D fighting mechanics so much that I care to master them. -
Why not calculate it and offer anyways, even if it is expensive? Worst thing someone could say is no, and if you actually want to do it and they say yes then you can make some money.

I just am not really a fan of the lo-fi style nor the extremely pinpoint accurate timing of things in that kind of platformer. It's kinda why I always liked Mega Man X more than Mega Man. -

I'm about at the same spot as you on that game. I think it's good within the context of what it's trying to achieve, but I also didn't run out and lose my mind over the recent Mega Man revivals for a similar reason. -
I just bought the Peach one for $10. This could be the beginning of something bad. Honestly, even owning like three seems dumb to me but I see it in my near future.

Well, part of the idea of stock is that you're taking the flavor of the thing and diffusing it into the liquid. It makes a lot of sense with meat when you're using pieces of the animal that are less appetizing when eaten directly, but you still can wring a lot of flavor out of it. That doesn't stop you from making a stock from anything, but you have to understand that you're inherently taking away some of the flavor from the boiled away stuff and injecting it into that liquid. It's why a lot of people don't like eating meat that was prepared by boiling, you're just bound to lose some flavor to that water. Anyways, I almost always make some kind of vegetable stock from scratch if I'm doing a veggie-based soup or stew because I inevitably am not going to use all of the veggies so I'll have 1/3 lb of carrots and a couple onions or something leftover from a batch that I buy. That stuff along with trimmings can make a pretty decent stock, then you add the stock cube or paste for even /more/ flavor. I mostly started doing this because I'd often see professional chefs on cooking show using both a homemade stock and additional flavoring on top.

I buy 75% of my 3DS games physically because I'd like to have them available for my wife to play if she's into it. That said, Nintendo is running sales on digital games more than ever. I've bought 3 full retail games on sale at 50-75% off the past couple weeks. Grabbed Shin Megami Tensei IV today for $15, can't beat that. Also, Best Buy regularly runs 10% sales on eShop cards (they're doing it right now!) so you can stack those credit deals with temporary price drops.

Easily the worst thing about counting calories is how it impacts my lifelong passion of eating loads of jasmine rice. Haven't had to weigh the two Oreos I ate a couple hours ago against the crushing depression that I could only eat 1.8 cups of rice for dinner in a very long time. Basically, if rice is in my future I have to be hella stingy earlier in the day.

Metroid Fusion is the best Metroid game.

I agree that we are agreeing. I meant to cite my agreement with you in my post.

Well we could just adopt any dumb imperial energy units. "Man, this place just has no low foot-pound food to choose from." "I just burned 200 btus with that workout, time to have a nice hearty dinner."

I don't really know how starring in a movie that got an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and getting nominated as Best Actress are simply swept under the rug because of her billing. Oscars take place in February and X-Men came out in Spring of that year, so I doubt that'd give them time to shift their marketing significantly. If you look at the posters for First Class, Fassbender and McAvoy are in the forefront with J Law and Kevin Bacon almost taking up the same space.

kJ is actually the standard unit of food energy, but I feel like a vast majority of the world uses calories. Both are metric measures though, which beats the heck out of Imperial garbage units. I once tried to do a calorie counting thing, but I found it too laborious to calculate for food I make myself (it's clearly much easier for prepared or packaged foods). Is there a quick way to do it or do you just have to calculate it ingredient by ingredient?

By this token, I'd think it'd be almost impossible for a A-list actress to breakthrough or breakout role as they're kinda antithetical. Like, they can't be A-list and breakthrough at the same time because who would be drawn to watch a movie by an actress who hasn't yet had a big role?

Do we actually need to have dedicated Nintendo console threads instead of just one? I feel like dividing them just makes them both more obscure than they need to be. Edit: Also, going to quote my previous post since this Meta stuff pushed us to a new page -
