  1. I Had A Random Thought...

I appreciate you saying that we're all awesome, needing no context.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I feel like it's one thing for her to have a cup of coffee with him and it's another to say on Twitter that she had a cup of coffee with him. Brad Wardell goes out of his way to Twitter search anyone who speaks poorly of him and "punches down" by pointing his follower mob at people. I don't really know why Brianna feels the need to lend him any kind of credibility in a public fashion even if she finds him okay on a personal level.
  3. General Video Game Deals Thread

GOG is doing an "Insomnia Promo" where it effectively works like a Wootoff - two games on sale at any given time, limited stock, when stock runs out it goes to the next game. They're promising up to 90% off, might be worth a look.
  4. If Campo Santo made a Metroidvania, I would buy it 10 times. The Firewatch demo looks so good.
  5. Recently completed video games

I've been thinking about trying to beat Super Mario Bros 3 sans any warp whistles or save scumming. I barely even know what stages 3 - 7 look like.
  6. Brad and Dan's quick looks are weird, I watched their recent Resident Evil QL and it was pretty much stuff like dick jokes and bad reference gags the whole time. For some reason, I used to watch GB stuff all the time on YouTube and now I find myself skipping almost everything unless I just need background noise. Maybe I should just check out the Premium stuff as everyone says it's pretty good.
  7. An email I sent to Giantbomb

Edit: crap, I meant to post to the other thread. Can we plz let this one die?
  8. Life

My wife is in this situation. Her boss (my old boss) is definitely more of a "director" than a supervisor, so she's much better suited to outreach and schmoozing than operations. My wife basically runs her department, despite the fact that she's not paid to be a manager and she has the exact same position as two other people in her department. The boss alternately thinks that my wife should basically just do everything until the exact moments where boss lady wants to intervene and show that she's actually in charge. It's really shitty and the main reason I got out from under her at my earliest convenience. There's nothing quite as bothersome as a boss who's seemingly only capable of meddling.
  9. Android Games

If memory serves, the Drop7 devs sold it to EA a long time ago and the version you had was not in active development. Of course, I don't know why my memory would be particularly good about a random Android app so I could be totally wrong.

I thought I was over it, but now I'm crying at my computer because of this -
  12. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I'm making my first real foray into modding with Skyrim and goddamn do the right mods make that a completely different, new, and in many ways better game.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

    I'd read that.

I believe you could just use Tumblr to make a subscribe-able RSS pointing to the files hosted on Dropbox. That said, Dropbox has bandwidth limitations but I guess you'd not have to worry about those unless your podcast got moderately popular. There's always Libsyn if you want to pay for hosting, which would certainly make things as minimally complicated as possible.

I've never noticed that on my PS3, I imagine it's because of the multiple platters in a bigger drive. If you're really concerned about it, you could get a Hybrid drive that comes with a built-in 4GB of flash memory that acts as a cache and would certainly reduce overall latency.

It doesn't void any warranties, Sony even has a guide (although it's not great) to do it. I used this guide from IGN that lays out the process fairly well - http://www.ign.com/wikis/playstation-4/How_to_Replace_a_PS4_Hard_Drive I looked at a handful of drives, but they were all relatively expensive. I found out that a lot of people were just getting portable external drives and taking off the casing, since most of them are just regular 2.5" drives with a SATA/USB adapter. It just so happened that Newegg had a sale on this Seagate drive, which I got for $60 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178649 I watched this YouTube video to figure out how to remove the casing - The benefit of this process is that a 1TB Seagate notebook drive is $75, so you straight up save money granted you find it on sale. Otherwise, the Seagate portable HDD I got has the exact same kind of drive that the PS4 packs in (Seagate Momentus XT), for what that's worth. Plus if you're careful tearing apart the casing, you can use the old drive from the PS4 in it. There's also the possibility of throwing a 7200RPM or SSD hybrid drive in there, but I don't have the funds to do that and I didn't find the performance gains (of which there are some) to be so wildly good to necessitate spending more.

Just installed a 1.5TB HDD in my PS4. Fairly effortless process, minus the fact that I have to redownload everything.

For the brief time that I participated in a podcast, the more that we talked about things that "we should talk about" the more boring it all got. Not every controversy deserves input from every person, particularly when it means that your one-hour podcast turns into a one-and-a-half-hour podcast for nobody's benefit.
  19. Backlog Busters

I felt like I was on a roll in wiping out some of my backlog, then for some reason I got it into my head to play Skyrim again and now it's unlikely I'll make headway for at least a month or so.

The Plus releases are practically identical between regions this generation.
  21. General Video Game Deals Thread

Sony is running a sale on Vita games since it's been out three years, should go up later today after the PS Store update -
  22. PL4YST4TION 4

You can do it through the browser, you just add it to your cart and then checkout (the total will be zero if you're subscribed). You used to not be able to do it, but quite shortly after the release of the PS4 they fixed that. I'm not sure if you can do it on the PS3, pretty sure the answer is no.
  23. Other podcasts

I've started listening to handful of new podcasts recently, so I have two to recommend. Apologies if these have been mentioned here before or even if I found them through you, I honestly find it hard to keep track of where I heard of these things - Inquiring Minds is a science podcast that doesn't take the somewhat tiring (to me) approach of making science super cool, but instead talking about it intelligently with experts. That's not to say that the topics at hand aren't interesting, just that they stand on their own instead of needing to be contextualized in a hip radio way. I started listening about a month ago and since then they had an interview with Andy Weir, author of The Martian, who talked about his writing of the book and how he integrated space science into it. Do You Need a Ride? is a comedy podcast with Chris Fairbanks and Karen Kilgariff. They live in LA and the premise of the show is that they give other comedians rides to and from the airport. They always start recording on their way to the airport/friend's house so you get a funny element of Chris and Karen discussing the guest, observing dumb traffic stuff, and getting prepared to have another person in the car. I imagine it'd be kinda like if you got to see the 5-10 minutes prior to the Tonight Show behind the scenes before every episode. I really appreciate the driving aspect of it, because you get to hear other people be like "i don't see him at the curb, I guess we'll just have to drive around this loop a few times" or just generally bitching about people's bad driving. Not to mention it's not super long due to the finite limitation of the length of a car drive.
  24. Feminism

(mild spoilers for multiple years old comic stuff) My perception as someone relatively new to the comics (subscribed to Marvel Unlimited a couple months ago, have been making my way through several modern stories 2000-forward including the Avengers) is that women and minorities are being treated well. I'm sure there was a time where it was a white boys club particularly in the incarnation that the MCU is portraying, but some of my favorite stuff to read lately has been really forward thinking. I have enjoyed reading the Ms. Marvel series, where she's done plenty of hero stuff worth noting but still grapples with being insignificant compared to the other AAA (mostly male) heroes. She eventually learns that she doesn't have to be Tony Stark's lieutenant or take charge of the Avengers to matter, she just has to do her own thing on her own terms. Luke Cage is one of the most prominent members of The New Avengers and he's a black man who was wrongly imprisoned for dealing drugs but still fights the good fight. Plus, he's married to Jessica Jones who is a badass private investigator superhero. Mockingbird is Hawkeye's girlfriend who was believed dead, to which I was kinda like "ugggh" but then she had an amazing scene where all of the powered heroes are disabled and she's the only Avengers member left standing since she's a SHIELD agent gone hero. She uses Bucky/Captain America's Luger and Shield to great effect to fight off some serious baddies and save the whole team. Excuse my going off on a huge tangent there, but while the balance of the Avengers wasn't 50:50 during the part of the run I've been reading over the past few months my point is that Marvel is going to great lengths to not only "gender swap" big heroes but also give some lower tier heroes a deserved step up through a lot of extra time on the page. I don't feel like these moves are token, they seem to be a genuine attempt to shine some light on characters who are super cool and got short shrift as compared to the really bankable household name heroes.
  25. Idle Food - Cooking!

I kinda think it depends on what kind of "pasta dish" you have. I'd definitely feel free to microwave any pasta that is immersed in a sauce and thus less likely to dry out. In that case you're also more reheating the sauce and the pasta is along for the ride. It also helps that I don't like to overcook my pasta, if it's cooked a little too hard you risk it breaking down even further in the process of cooling/freezing + reheating. I make a pasta dish that's basically just italian sausage cooked in olive oil with pasta and a couple veggies, it's pretty basic and can run the risk of it being messed up by microwaving it. Usually I add a teaspoon or so of water so that it is a little closer to being steamed in the microwave than fried.
