  1. Borderlands

So, I got the PC version and I can safely say that getting into the multiplayer has really been an unpleasant experience. I literally cannot remember the last time that I've needed to do port forwarding, but maybe I'm just spoiled from more recent offerings through Steam and whatnot. Beyond that, in the ~8 hours that I've been playing today with my girlfriend, our connection broke twice. Neither of us have spotty/poor internet connections, so I feel like it has to be in the system. Once you actually get the game connected, though, I imagine the game plays just like anywhere else. I'd go ahead and say that if you can get this game on the 360 and you're really interested in multiplayer, that'd be the place to get that experience right now. Unfortunately, my girlfriend only has a PC/PS2, so we have to make do with what we have.
  2. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

This is actually sort of how I felt after playing it. To be honest, really, I'd say that a couple notches down my list are probably Metroid Fusion as favorite game and Metroid: Zero Mission as best game. I had a lot of fun with Fusion as a sort of rekindling of interest in the franchise, then Zero Mission brought it home with a really solid, polished experience that I didn't nearly have as much "fun" with but certainly a ton of satisfaction.
  3. Torchlight?

Well, word on the street is that the average playtime for this game 10 hours or less. That's pretty digestible, as far as I'm concerned, so I see myself doing a quick and dirty normal difficulty playthrough after I finish my first Borderlands run.
  4. Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

My girlfriend loved Space Asshole, which almost literally made me clap in glee.
  5. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

    Technically, he'd best.
  6. Torchlight?

Chris mentioned a "netbook graphics mode" on his Twitter that pushed me over the edge into pre-ordering this - I think I was really just looking for an excuse to pulling the trigger, and the prospect of playing on my netbook is exciting even though it may not work perfectly.
  7. Borderlands

I'm personally contemplating picking it up on PC; given the amount of new releases, catching a $15 break by pre-ordering it on Steam seems like an ideal situation.
  8. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

Well, when you look back at a game that you've played through half-a-dozen times, sunk hundreds of hours into, and played to virtual completion, it's hard not to say that the game is a favorite. I've liked a lot of other games quite a bit, but Oblivion is just one of those games that I can just pop into the drive and play at almost any time. But that's the point of the favorite category, eh? To each his own.
  9. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

Favorite - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Best - Team Fortress 2 Desert Island - Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection I sorta just did that off the top of my head, giving the most time (about a minute) to the desert island choice. Maybe I'll revise later, but I thought there might be some value to off the cuff choices.
  10. Forza Motorsport 3

Yup, just submitted my pre-order on Amazon. The Giant Bomb video review really pushed me over the edge, if I wasn't over already.
  11. OK. Who wrote to UK:R about Marek?

I think you mean: Also, I politely request that there be another 3D Sonic game so we have a more recent Sonic game to shit on.
  12. On a somewhat related note, I just wrote up an article for Bitmob about how Infinity Ward has really destroyed the PC version of MW2 and how I've chosen not to buy it as a result (rather than pirate it, ): http://bitmob.com/index.php/mobfeed/twisting-the-knife-infinity-ward-leaves-pc-behind.html </shameless plug>
  13. Shadow Complex

For me, I would just say that I really felt like I was exploring the environment rather than letting myself be led on a path to each subsequent objective. I'd say that I felt empowered; I started off as a guy with some climbing gear and a pistol, could take on a handful of guys with a solid machine gun about halfway through the game, and finished up feeling like the Terminator. I'd say that I was impressed by some of the weapons and equipment, like the foam gun and the combination of the hookshot and jetpack. That's just about it, for me. Exploration, empowerment, equipment.
  14. Grand Thumb Auto XXXIV: It's sometimes too early.

Had a great time, as always. At this point, I think I can say that Grand Thumb Auto has justified my purchase of GTA4.
  15. Red Faction: Guerilla

For some reason, the Nano Rifle in this game is so entertaining. It's one of those things that makes me wish I had the PC version so I could do some console fiddling for infinite ammo or something, because I love just tearing through huge buildings using it.
  16. I actually saw this and contemplated picking up the PC version of the game to check it out. I convinced my girlfriend to pick up KOTOR, so we'll see if my interest sticks around after we finish that together sometime soon.
  17. Forza Motorsport 3

It seems like every day, I'm more and more pumped for this game. Today I did a little bit of a Forza 3 video blitz, so I've got some pretty impressive and telling stuff about the game. First is the Giant Bomb Quick Look of the game, which shows how the menus work, how the career mode is set up, and how the marketplace works: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-forza-motorsport-3/17-1475/ Next is an interview from with Garnett Lee and a couple of guys from Turn 10... since it was from E3, the coverage is a little bit scattershot but they do talk a little bit about how they designed some of the fictional maps and their cockpit view: So, at this point, I was basically just looking for Forza porn. These last two videos are a little less informative, but they're cool nonetheless. First is a video from Project Blackjack, which is a team of players hired by Turn 10 to basically make their game look rad. This is some really awesome orchestrated drifting, and more functionally it shows the range of options of the video mode, since I believe the video was captured with the in-game tool: And finally, this is some dude's video of the three-monitor setup + driving seat + Microsoft wheel that was available at TGS. I want to have ridiculous amounts of money and have this... right now: http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-18966-%5BTGS09%5D+Forza+Motorsport+3,+Like+the+Real+Thing!.html So, yeah, sort of a long post, but hopefully this is a pretty decent aggregation of the better videos of Forza 3. God, I'm totally nerding out for this game.
  18. Epic Disney on GameInformer

Epic Mickey is the most stupid name for a video game that I think I've ever heard.
  19. PAX East

I'm considering it, but I'm not sure how my calendar will look at that point. I don't really have tons of money, so the prospect of just buying the tickets and possibly not going isn't the most palatable thing I can imagine.
  20. The first time I read the Music Hub URL, I absolutely read it as musi chub. Amazing.
  21. GTA 33: Never Too Early

Play Brutal Legend all day, take a two-hour break to play some GTA4 with everyone.
  22. Game Train 2009: The Fall

In addition to some of the previously mentioned games, I'll probably be buying Fallout 3: Game of the Year, Forza Motorsport 3, and Assassin's Creed 2.
  23. Forza Motorsport 3

I actually agree - I've recently got to the stage where some races are > 5 laps and it makes me incredibly nervous. Pushing myself to the front of the pack is the easy part, making sure I keep that spot is harder. Mostly, I just sometimes get far too comfortable with the track and totally wipe out at some point, so I think it's less a test of patience and more a test of determination. That may be a granular comparison, but it was enough for me to enjoy it. There's also a little bit of that "hey, I really want to master this track" so you get into that cycle where shaving half a second off is actually incredibly rewarding when you're in the eighth lap of a ten lap race. For a perfectionist who hasn't previously been too interested in simulation racers (me), this is the lynch-pin to keeping my mind in it.
  24. GTA 33: Never Too Early

Helicopters are ridiculously difficult to control.
