The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 1: THE GREAT GATLING-GUNSBY

I'm practically sobbing in happiness. -
What is game?

This is huge, people. Countdown to gift of games, confirmed.

Do you have any theories as to the implications of the "Jesus Christ" utterance on the Idle Thumbs universe as a whole?
-
No compare feature, no multiple item stacking, not enough variety between different types/tiers of particular equipment, confusing naming conventions for armor, too many types of equipment modifiers... need I go on?
-
I honestly think you're one of very few who think this. I want to spend my time actually playing the game, not managing a shitload of inventory that just changes some of the stats on my dice rolls.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
JonCole replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
Just got back from watching Sondre Lerche in concert. Fucking great show, I'm more a fan than ever. If I could recommend only one artist to anyone, it'd be him. -
There seemed to be a lot of excitement about STALKER from you guys, so I was just wondering if there was any enthusiasm for Metro 2033, coming from some of the same guys from GSC that moved over to 4A games. From listening to the latest 4 Guys 1UP (About the 55 minute mark), it sounds like the game is a lot more guided than STALKER since they want to tell a more structured story. The premise of this deal is based on a book of the same name, which tells the story of a post-apocalyptic Moscow where the few survivors managed to survive by taking shelter in the city's subway systems. Each of the groups managed to band together and create microsocieties, meeting together through the tunnels now and then to trade supplies and such. One of the most interesting mechanics they mentioned is that the primary currency of the game is ammunition, because pre-war ammo is of much higher quality than any shit they can pull together after the fact. Since you're out doing your own adventuring, though, you can exploit both the direct and indirect value of ammunition - you could use it in favor of the shit ammo to kill far more effectively, or save it and use it to trade for supplies. These Ukrainian dudes know how to put together some interesting shit, even though their games tend to be a little unpolished. I was waffling a little bit on buying BioShock 2 and after hearing about this game I'm thinking about tossing my Steam preorder this way instead. Thoughts?

I enjoyed the first ~30 minutes. Very Bioshock-y. Yeah, I know, not very insightful, but that's all I've got. I'll probably play a hell of a lot more tomorrow, so I'll follow up.

I think Jeremy Parish had the pricing right when he talked about it on 4 Guys 1UP - if the release schedule is something like four episodes at $5 a piece, each with three or four levels, I'd be completely cool with it. $20 is the upper limit of spending on XBLA for me, so I hope they stay in that range.

I had a dream where I recorded an episode of Idle Thumbs, impersonating Chris, Jake, and Nick with some sort of magical accuracy. I released the episode online and everyone went crazy for it, but somehow found out that I tricked them. Then, everyone came to my house and stabbed me in the chest with an enormous drill. Video games.

GTA L: Grand Thumb Auto Liverpool (50th anniversary edition)

Unfortunately, can't make it for the big 50. My girlfriend is coming to town and we're going to a concert, so there's pretty much no hope. -

Why doesn't the Alliance... take over? What? It's not like Cerberus is a branch of the Alliance.

If you don't own Far Cry 2 at this point, there's something wrong with you. Remedy that, because it's on sale for $10 on Steam. Zen Bound is also on sale on the iTunes App Store for $2.

Picked up Words with Friends... challenge me, I'm JonCole on there too.

Yeah, on my Renegade save I hooked up with Miranda and cheated on Liara. I imagine that on my Paragon save I'll hook up with Tali, all the way.
-
I remember reading that "cheating" on your ME1 love interest with a ME2 character will have tangible repercussions in the final game. Since I finished my Renegade run, I think I'm going to finish my Paragon ME1 playthrough without hooking up with Ashley/Liara and seeing how that pans out in the ME3.
