The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 4: Super Expert Pro
JonCole replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Well, I was hoping for some sort of public civility... I'd rather not walk by some kid and have them read "space asshole" off to their parents quizzically. That's an easy way to get your ass kicked around these parts. -
Yup. I posted about this in the general deals thread on Saturday. =/ Also, I forgot how janky PC games were temporarily, seemingly totally mystified when I couldn't join a multiplayer game. I forwarded some ports to no success... then I dug through the game files and found an updater, so I manually updated the game. I suppose that's the detriment of using retail/EA Store versions rather than Steam, laaaaame.

Anyone know if the Blu-Ray version of BSG is worthwhile? Amazon is currently running a sale on it at $150, which is pretty decent as compared to the regular price it tends to retail at.

Ah, gotcha. Also, definitely agree on the hoodie note... maybe a huge truck with its front end smashed into the ground, possibly with some human legs poking out of the crater? Caption, "In a truck, flying off a ridge!" -

On a similar note, is there some crazy backstory for Wache that I just don't know about? I understand the joke, but I just don't seem to find it as funny as everyone else. Halp. -
jonac13 on Steam, jonac13 on Skype, jonac13 on BF:BC2. Eager to play with you guys sometime!

Ehh... I played it daily, but don't get the idea that I was great. Every character necessitates a level of nuance to play optimally, and I just never committed enough to a single class to be great. I imagine that jumping back into it at this point would effectively be starting from square one or two. Also, it's a lot more fun when you can actually play cohesively as a team. Even if everyone's not that great, collaborating is the way the classes are meant to be played.
-
Oh, yeah, I didn't mention that. It's actually a $20 off anything $40 or more code, so it works for all physical media and other downloads. I just mentioned BFBC2 since it's the most exceptional deal and it's already $10 off to begin with.
-
Good deal, bad store, but here you go anyways: This is only good through the rest of today, but Battlefield Bad Company 2 is going for $40 on the EA Store... and EA just put out a $20 coupon code for PAX, putting the price at $20. The code is PAXEAST842. The caveat is that the EA Store is kind of shitty in that it only lets you download the game within the span of a year, then you can't redownload it again. As far as I know, though, they give you the CD key listed as the "unlock code" at the post-payment screen and you can use it with a retail disk or ISO you otherwise "acquire". Also, if you're willing to dig through the EA Downloader cache, you can find the installer and copy it to a DVD or an external hard drive to give you a way to back it up. I did it, but I'm a whore for deals. But now I have a game to play with you guys on PC, so I'm happy!

I'd be up for this, I used to play TF2 daily for a couple months a while back. Don't know about times, though. Later in the day/weekends is typically better for me, though.

Well, I just finished The Pitt and I must say that I feel a bit underwhelmed. Thus far, Mothership Zeta and The Pitt are my least favorites, though I think I'd take Zeta over Pitt simply because Zeta offers much better loot and a much longer campaign length. The Pitt's strongest aspect is the flavor of the environments and major characters, but that's not nearly enough for me to ignore the easily forgettable loot and incredibly short main quest. On a lighter note, I love Fallout 3 and Nuka-Cola: Guy stickered up an old vending machine and made Quantum with aqua LED. Either way, looks totally rad.

Yeah, I'm a fan of LOTR, that's why I had considered trying it in the first place. Watched all of the Extended Editions in a ridiculous marathon a few months ago and felt a crazy desire to get more LOTR stuff. I ended up opting for the soundtracks rather than LOTRO, but this low price is tempting. As far as The Witcher goes, you got me thinking... and after a little digging, I found a DVD of The Witcher that I got bundled with my old 8800GT. I think there's a free upgrade to the Enhanced Edition out there, so if you want this copy and are willing to cough up an address (as long as you don't live all the way on the other side of the world from me), I'd be willing to ship you this extra copy. Let me know!

After showing my girlfriend the Spreadshirt link, she bought me the black Idle Thumbs hoodie for my birthday. I love her so fucking much. -
I'm probably going to pay $30 to get a copy of Pokemon HeartGold for my girlfriend so we can play sometime, does that count?

The Pitt is pretty damn short and shallow, if you ask me. And I really made the mistake of waiting until I finished practically everything first to play it... I rip through each of the quests in minutes. If you play the Pitt, I'd recommend trying it around level 20, perhaps.

This is a deal that personally caught my eye... I've never really been heavy into any MMO's, just casually some Guild Wars with my girlfriend. But Turbine is running a deal on Lord of the Rings Online and all of it's expansions for $10, along with a 30-day trial. At that price, I'll buy pretty much anything, so I think I'm going to give it a go. Anyone play it/have anything to say about it? http://store.turbine.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductDetailsPage&SiteID=turbine&Locale=en_US&Env=BASE&productID=169163300

Well, I write for a website on the internet called CastMedium, where we do brief summaries/recaps of various podcasts and podblasts. Mostly, we just try to make it a little easier to find new shows that you may like and tune into discussions from shows you don't normally listen to. We also do a weekly podcast ourselves, where we basically just try to hit on the big topics that spread across various other podcasts throughout the week. Also, podcast podcast podcast. I also have a blog thing where I post various shit, whether it's pictures of the food I cook, reviews of content I consume, or just random thoughts that happen to cross my mind. PLUG'D.

This is one of the main reasons why I don't too excited about these various conventions... sure, the actual convention is important, but the after-parties are often worth half the trip.
-
Yeah, I noticed this myself when I installed my new 5770, but to be fair, nVidia's interface doesn't look particularly elegant either. It's ironic that graphics card manufacturers don't know a thing about graphic design.

I'm sort of considering revoking my recommendation of Mothership Zeta if only because the game has frozen up three times on me during the length of the mini-campaign. Fallout 3 is by no means a flawless game free of bugs, but it seems like an odd coincidence that more than half of the total freezes I've gotten while playing the game came while playing Zeta. Also, an interesting occurrence, I apparently just hit the Mysterious Stranger about five times during a VATS sequence before he even appeared.

I would buy the IdleThumbs.net shirt if the price to quality ratio wasn't over a billion. http://www.cafepress.com/sk/idlethumbs -
I honestly don't think you're reading this right. Since the 3DS is backwards compatible, third parties may simply hedge their bets and invest in the 125 million DS userbase and ride backwards compatibility for a couple years.
-
I think what he was getting at is that it appears that Nintendo is attempting to make the DS2, but it may end up being more like a side-step if third party developers don't support it.

I'd say Sennheiser all the way for all things audio. Won't break your balls for cash, but has comparable quality to some of the best gear out there.
