I feel like the ass shot was pretty much Bay flipping Fox the middle finger. I'm not one to follow the tabloidy shit, but I do recall many a rumor about bad blood between them causing recast for the female protagonist. So it's like "hey, Megan? there are plenty of asses to choose from".

Also, it should be said that Microsoft owns the Trenched IP, so they'd have to facilitate a PC release. Which... isn't really their priority, obviously.

I'm jonac13 on XBL, feel free to drop me an invite even if I'm playing another game. I have enough good emplacements and weapons to probably make me viable for the first two islands, for what it's worth.

Fucking Steam sale.

I feel like Wave was completely useless until I found the exact uses for it once it was gone. Working on game of the year podcasts, collaborative ideas for editorial, etc are were great for it but it was a very specific tool that they kinda trotted out as something much larger. That said, I wish Google didn't kill stuff so often, because I could use Wave now for a few things.

I'm aware. Much like you, I've played a lot of games. My point is that many games that appear to not have ways to reset them in fact do, so this isn't nearly as regular as you purport.

Yeah, their excuse pretty much totally jumps over the explanation part and goes straight to the "live with it because it's nbd".
-
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to align myself with the people who are outraged about this. I just think it's kinda lame to not give the option, as it seems at least from my perspective that they could allow full resets. So... basically I agree with syntheticgerbil.
-
For the sake of posterity, can you give examples of cartridge-based games that lack ANY reset functionality whatsoever?

It doesn't deincentivize people from selling their copies back, it deincentivizes used games stores from buying back these copies. Kind of like how CD keys destroyed the secondary market for PC games. Is that not obvious?

I remember I traded GTA back in for $35 and picked it back up for $5. You're right about RDR... though I don't really know if I value its sandbox enough to rebuy it at this point, despite how much I liked the game.

I actually think the wobble is a little weirdly endearing. I don't know if this is like hindsight bias or something, but I feel like at least one game has tried to simulate a similar effect of camera wobbling to keep pace with the player's movements. I'd love to see you do stuff with that camera mounted and have a 3rd person superimposed HUD that reflects the changes (like jumping up in the air alters a HUD element that measures altitude).

As is generally the case with Rockstar games... I remember getting almost all of my money back when I finished RDR. Then they usually get to a point of being so popular that they lose all of their value. It's a weird value curve.

I beat Red Faction: Armageddon and it was a total piece of garbage. If you have any affection for Space Asshole, I would strongly recommend you don't waste your time with this.

I had no idea that you were trying to address Miffy, so I read "you" as "someone". Furthermore, I haven't been trying to instigate arguments, I've been trying to address each of your points to the best of my ability. If you still think I was trying to be antagonistic earlier about your thoughts on L.A. Noire, I imagine you still don't get what I was trying to say the whole time. Clearly we've been misunderstanding each other on at least a few occasions, TP, so I'd like to end this now before it cascades into some "internet bullshit" levels of vitriol.

Totally with you on this one. I feel like that nondescript forest is crystallized in my mind, as is the gate at the beginning and end of the movie. It has such a well realized sense of place that is fairly rare in movies nowdays, where jumpcuts to various international locations are the valued currency.

Okay, I edited it. I just feel like you've been completely pedantic in your last few posts. People are complaining because they want PC versions of Rockstar games, you question why they'd want them to begin with. I give you some reasonable motivations, you question why those motivations are better than plugging in a 360 to a monitor. Patters and I both say that we've had positive experiences with the PC port of GTAIV, you say that your articles say otherwise. Sorry if my response was a little negative, I just feel like I can't get a word in edgewise without you pushing your personal experience on me and ignoring anything else.

I don't need to read anything to tell you that the level of detail with regards to the draw distance is a significant improvement when you crank up that meter on the PC version. And considering the fact that I played the PC version yesterday just to reconfirm my thoughts, I can tell you right now that it looks significantly better. If you want to read articles to tell me that I'm wrong, I really don't feel like entertaining this conversation anymore.
-
Draw distance is user selected from graphics menus, so it's not really a good measure of parity. I would say it's a lot more than "a little crisper", particularly when you look at any of the vehicles or the characters. In the particular example you chose, the level of detail in the buildings when you see all of Liberty City is noticeably and notably better even when the whole city is rendered.

This video has the game running on almost three year old hardware and the difference is still quite significant (not to mention the fact that there were probably tons of both game patches and hardware-specific patches) - http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pc-360-comparison-grand-theft/43929

Haha, most popular downloads. That's like pondering the usefulness of a list of the most popular retail Wii games. REVELATION: I SHOULD PROBABLY GET WII PLAY AND WII PLAY PLUS AND WII PLAY PLUS 2.

Not a huge fan of Games for Windows Live Marketplace, but they currently have some killer deals on the GTAIV stuff - Grand Theft Auto IV - $4.99/£4.99 The Ballad of Gay Tony - $3.74/£2.49 Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned - $2.49/£1.68 Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City - $7.49/£4.99

Yes, that's physically possible with some monitors. This isn't a problem with me, you just asked why anyone would want the PC version. I know my girlfriend has all of the aforementioned problems and her PC monitor only has a VGA and DVI port. Even if she ponied up the cash for a 360 VGA cord, she still wants it for Kinect and Netflix in the living room. I somehow doubt this is an uncommon scenario.
