  1. Just take out your old card and drop in the new one. If there are any issues, it'll drop down to a base level driver as Jake said and you can simply try to uninstall drivers at that point or whatever. I don't think that'll be necessary, because as I said the drivers are all universal nowadays and the only issue you'll ever encounter is switching between AMD and Nvidia. Even in the case of switching between brands, you can typically just disable the drivers and uninstall the software without using any registry changing stuff and you'll be no worse off. The days of conflicting AMD/Nvidia drivers are essentially over, at least in what I've read and in my personal experience (switched from a GTX 560 to a AMD 7870 about 6 months ago, no need to run any special software and no noticeable issues to the present day).

Thanks for letting me know that Irrational just took a huge shit on me. I don't think I would have noticed if not for your help. Seriously though, you should probably calm down. I don't really think it matters either way. I'm just saying that if you insist that a developer keeps every promise or else they're BETRAYING you, there's still a bit of wiggle room for Levine. I don't personally believe that, because I don't think a game developer necessarily needs to watch every word they say - that's a job for PR, and if we give dev's too hard a time for stuff like this we might not get as many developer interviews.
  3. The drivers are the same. You do not need to uninstall AMD drivers to switch between two AMD cards.
  4. Fez 2

I think it's important to differentiate between anger or annoyance and pure negativity. Some pundits in the industry make a name for themselves by posing as angry or shouting their comments in YouTube videos - I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with this, especially if they are talking about things that actually make them angry or they focus on bad games. Beer went beyond his "Annoyed Gamer" persona, however, when his "annoyance" led him to egg on a known bipolar indie developer who has no obligation to answer press questions. It's hard to muck around in this semantic difference, but I think it's valuable. A lot of people called this behavior "snarky" - something that suggests an edge or cutting quality beyond anger or annoyance. It's an appropriate characterization because it highlights that unnecessary element that takes a legitimate complaint and makes it personal and hurtful.
  5. BioShock Infinite

I'm not going to look up the original quotes because I will tell you, I honestly don't care enough about this issue to do so. That said, I seem to recall Levine/Irrational saying that Infinite wouldn't build on Rapture's story. Both the inclusion of Rapture in Infinite and in this DLC seem to keep true to that message, because they're not iterating or continuing that plot as much as they are referencing it and making light of the parallel stories. I think it remains to be seen how "canon" this DLC will be in the story of Rapture.
  6. Fez 2

People go to GAF for critical mass. There's always a weird element of breaking news coming from there first, with a developer letting something slip in a thread or someone posting a bunch of leaked content there. There is a conversation for seemingly every gaming-related topic there. That said, it's still a nightmare that I never want to wade through.
  7. Fez 2

I think this also precipitated from a small incident that happened earlier this week when Polygon quoted Kevin Dent regarding the Xbox One's indie policies. Fish took issue with Polygon quoting Dent because Dent is well known for being a misogynistic asshole with very little indie credibility. He called out Polygon for seemingly forever over Twitter, both toward the main account, the writer in question, and various people in management positions there. At some point, Justin McElroy told Fish to email him because he though Twitter wasn't a good venue, only to basically tell Fish that they didn't know Dent was a human piece of shit. Fish got pretty worked up about it, mostly because "we didn't know" isn't an adequate reason (I believe) to pull quotes from someone who isn't very qualified to begin with. So that started him on the path of really biting into "games journalism" and then this situation landed on top of that to deliver a finishing blow to his perception of how the press in the games industry works. Speaking to the situation at hand right now, I feel comfortable pushing much of the blame to Marcus Beer, because he essentially positions himself as the self-proclaimed antagonistic troll of the gaming press. I don't think there's any value to having people who exist simply to piss people off or act pissed about things, mostly because I don't think we need to strive to produce negativity when plenty comes up naturally. Sure it doesn't help that Phil seems somewhat overly emotional and very reactionary, but when that's the status quo with this guy and you still call him out for dubious reasons (no press is entitled to the opinions of indie developers, and indie developers should by no means feel blessed to be asked) Beer deserves all the backlash and likely more than he'll get.
  8. Steam Trading Card

I got IGTM from a Humble Bundle and never watched the Steam version (wanted the 1080p H.264 version so I could watch it on my TV), so I'm pleased to see that you can pay for the "Special Edition DLC" that they've recently released. I'll probably grab that at some point and proceed to grab all the trading cards in the 1-2 hours of additional content.
  9. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

    "too much" = $2.50?
  10. Steam Trading Card

Depends on how you plan to use the proceeds. If you sell them now in favor of buying other cards that will complete other game-specific badges, the extra XP/Steam level could increase your chance of getting random drops from other games. Theoretically, turning in the opportunity value right now this could be worth more than whatever increase the cards may enjoy over time.
  11. Recently completed video games

I always just find using the web-based version of PSN and downloading to the PS3 the most "simple" solution. Use the website here, queue the download on your PS3, ideally if you have PS+ it'll download at 2am in the morning, then plug your Vita into the PS3 and transfer the purchase over. I also took the step of installing a 1TB 7200RPM HDD in my PS3 to shave off any installation time possible and so I don't have to worry about clogging up the PS3's storage with PSV versions and whatnot. Convoluted and hardly ideal, but it works for me. And yeah, you have to move over the installation token as well, which is really strange and I can't imagine anyone without technical know-how would be able to decipher that one. But I guess it's probably easier both database-wise and bandwidth-wise to simply have one installer and a key to separate the demo and full versions. Not a good user experience either way, though.
  12. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

Puzzle Quest 2 - 2.49 USD Dungeons of Dredmor - 1.24 USD Rogue Legacy - 11.99 USD Cart Life - 1.99 USD To The Moon - 2.99 USD Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gold DLC Only Feb 2013 - 5.00 USD Orcs Must Die 2 - 3.74 USD Sleeping Dogs: Nightmare in North Point - 1.74 USD Sleeping Dogs - The Year of the Snake - 1.74 USD Sleeping Dogs - Zodiac Tournament - 1.24 USD Dishonored (ROW) - 10.19 USD Reus - 4.99 USD System Shock 2 - 2.49 USD Deadlight - 3.74 USD The Swapper - 7.49 USD $63.08 USD in games for myself, plus I bought KOTOR 2 for my girlfriend at $3.39. Fairly successful sale for me, just about as much as I was budgeted to spend and I got a lot of games that I see myself playing in the near future (unlike most Steam sales).
  13. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

I continue to get standard cards after maxing out my Steam Summer Sale badge.
  14. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

I imagine Kerbal will go back up if there's an encore day at the end.
  15. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

I think I've reached the point where I no longer feel a compulsive need to buy more games in this sale. Unless there's a truly ludicrous sale price on something, I probably won't be buying much more before the end. Still hoping for sub-$10 Rogue Legacy, though.
  16. Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

Unfortunately, can't swing 3pm EDT because I'll be at work. Damn. For those of you who do have the opportunity, try to make it - the dozen or so times I joined in on Grand Thumbs Auto back in the day were awesome. I would undoubtedly just jump out of the car in any race mode and troll everyone by shooting out their tires, because hey why not?
  17. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

I've gotten 4 cards just from voting, which means I should get more than the required quantity to craft the badge before the sale is over. One of them was a foil card, which I could sell to fill my wallet with enough money to buy 3 or 4 of the common sale trading cards, plus any multiples can be traded with friends to complete the set. So, I feel like it's a massive exaggeration to say that this is "about" spending money on games or "requires" spending $60+ during the sale to get cards. Sure, it shifts the focus of the sale's surrounding celebration from playing games to playing with Steam (which is a clear difference), but it's undoubtedly always been Valve's focus to highlight new features of Steam alongside their sales, whether that's through their recommendation system, gifting games, buying multipacks, etc. I think it's a little idealistic to paint previous Steam sales as messengers of "playing games are great, let's reward you to play them".
  18. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

Brave New World already went on sale day one for 33% off, I believe. It actually wasn't supposed to go on sale because it had come out so recently, so Steam gave out copies of Civ IV to people who preordered Brave New World as a weak apology gesture. I'd expect you have to wait for the Winter Sale before seeing it cheaper again, and then it'll probably be the same 33% off as during day 1.
  19. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

Cards are used for XP, the other rewards have no value as far as XP is concerned.
  20. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

I've actually enjoyed the trading cards concept thus far, though I guess I'm not surprised because I've always been into achievements and whatnot more than others. Unlike achievements, the cards don't contribute to prestige but I do feel like they're some signal of my taste and what games I enjoy. Plus, I'm quite invested in the Steam platform as a whole so having a big Steam level next to my name somehow feels good. Anyways, I sold a Steam Getaway Sale foil card which subsidized me buying a whole lot of regular trading cards so I could complete my FTL set. The FTL start screen is now my Steam profile background and I like it! That said, you can also easily just buy that background for something like $0.03, but I liked earning it and getting the XP. Haven't bought any games in the sale so far. Probably would have gone for $5 Reus if it went through Community's Choice, but it seems like the most obviously popular game of the bunch always wins (rather than my hope that the community would come to some telepathic, hive mind conclusion that we should all vote for the game that hasn't been discounted frequently in the past already).
  21. Upcoming books you want to read

Now that I've inexplicably got into the Witcher books and not the Witcher game series (yet), I'm anticipating the August release of the second entry in The Witcher Saga, The Time of Contempt.
  22. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

I'm also on the lookout for a nice Rogue Legacy deal (I'd probably even bite for $10, that's my threshold) as well as Metro: Last Light at a good price. Otherwise, the only thing I'd bite on in this sale is particularly ridiculous sales (80%+ off) or indie games that dip below $2.50 or something like that.
  23. Newegg has preorders of it for $35, though it's obviously a bit early to be doing so - http://slickdeals.net/f/6140062-Nintendo-3DS-Game-Pre-Order-Super-Smash-Bros-or-The-Legend-of-Zelda-A-Link-Between-Worlds-34-99-Free-Shipping
  24. The Swapper

    Smart.
  25. PS Vita

I went on a week long vacation with a lot of driving/downtime and I played Persona 4 Golden for THIRTY HOURS. Definitely worth your time, even if you're not a huge fan of JRPGs. Also put in an hour or so into Gravity Rush, I'm enjoying it a fair amount so far and got it for 'free' from PS+, so I have no complaints.
