Yeah, it's my major complaint with BL. It doesn't need to be a 100 hour game. I feel like 50% of my time playing it is inventory management where I'm not making any significant decisions. I wish someone would mod that smaller, or offer a mod that auto-trashes blue or lower loot, or whatever.

Considering a lot of modern FPS games have similar mechanics to RPGs, I don't think it should be particularly surprising that some FPS enemies offer zero challenge and are thus trash mobs. Early mobs in Destiny and Borderlands are easy trash no matter when you fight them.

I don't know if this is true in other MMOs, but when everyone knows what they're doing raids take no time at all. I once did VOG in 30 minutes, Crota in less. Clans definitely serve a pretty minimal function in the game. I use mine as basically a somewhat curated lobby for LFG chat and general information sharing.

I call enemies in Destiny adds. I don't think I ever really integrated mob into my vocabulary as it does seem to be a pretty MMO-centric term.

Musou games are Trash Games, confirmed. (I love trash ((((()

One of my favorite mods for Skyrim has a feature like this, but through the perk system. Basically you could get "wilderness survival"-type perks that would make it so animals wouldn't fight you. I believe Fallout 3/NV also has perks like this in the vanilla version of the game. Since animals (rather than humanoid stuff) comprise a huge chunk of the overworld encounters, it felt pretty much the same as what you're describing.

It's just odd to me that we're still referring to the mobs in DS as trash mobs while calling them not trash mobs because they offer meaningful engagements. It just points to the term not having much value, as it's being used almost interchangeably with non-boss encounters. Perhaps I'm just being pedantic. I do concur with the point that some games have more meaningful non-boss encounters than others, Dark Souls in particular.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

I believe Vudu does it on select devices. Alternately, a VPN + The Pirate Bay.
  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I think that the sole fact that we're finding it hard to differentiate (as a group) between what exactly a trash mob is versus a "real enemy" means that many trash mobs can be a value or import to someone.
  10. This is a site that I've been trying to find again for a long time (it was mentioned on the forums, but it's hard to browse through so many pages for a specific thing like this). Various PC builds at different price points, lets you assess what is a step up or down on any particular part - http://www.logicalincrements.com/

Defender is totally OP for POEs. If you don't already have a Helm of Saint-14, make sure you roll Exotic Helm Engrams from Xur as often as possible as that's the best Defender armor period. It blinds anyone who goes into your bubble, including enemy mobs. This effectively means that any major or ultra that dares to enter your bubble is nearly instantly immobilized, leaving them vulnerable to melee and shotgun attacks. On high level PvE content, you should probably roll Armor of Light too so that you're more hardy when guys enter your bubble. While Gift of Light is nice for producing orbs, if you roll War Machine you can really quickly reload a shotgun and dominate in short range of your bubble at a very sustained rate. A common strategy for dealing with VIP waves of POE (including Skolas) is dropping a bubble right along the path that the VIP takes and the final capture point. As he enters it, your Helm blinds the guy and then your whole team can whale on him in safety. This is way safer than trying to take out the VIP en-route. If you're concerned with producing orbs, Gift of the Void > Gift of Light. Ward Duration isn't incredibly important, so I'd take Gift > Bastion in most situations.
  12. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

The Swapper is great but it doesn't do an extraordinary job pushing you forward and keeping momentum. I imagine it could get tiresome if you weren't a big fan of the puzzles. I mostly finished it because I was very aware of the short playtime and people had raised my expectations about the ending (which was very good indeed!)

Strength is a good stat for Warlocks, where the range of their attacks is long and the Sunsinger benefits from Flame Shield pretty handily. It really just depends on what you actually are productive with, most people swear by Int/Dis but if you're garbage with grenades then Dis isn't going to do you any good. pyeixe, you'd probably do well to join an Xbox 360-centered clan via the Bungie forums, use the /r/fireteams subreddit where you can filter by platform, or join a group on the100.io that is 360-specific.

The Last Word is the only decent primary counter to long-range OHKO shotguns like Felwinters and Matador. Either those need to be nerfed too, or something needs to be buffed to compensate if TLW gets nerfed.

Not to be pedantic, but I played as a level 32 for the last two days on my new Hunter and had no trouble competing. However, I don't think that obviates the fact that IB is not particularly effective at changing the gameplay in a positive way. I do think that House of Wolves and reforging has set the foundation for making legendaries more competitive with exotics on the whole, at least now there are specific rolls of Scout Rifles and Pulse Rifles that compete with Thorn/TLW legitimately. If and when they fix ARS, nerf exotic HCs, and add a greater variety of weapons in general, I don't anticipate such an unbalanced meta subsequently.
  17. As far as I know, power consumption and thermals are an issue with the technology behind the 390(X) as compared to Nvidia. I haven't seen any benchmarks on the 390, in the past AMD has held back the lower-tier GPUs in favor of having all the press review the top tier unit (the 390X) which competes directly with the GTX 980. In what I've seen between those two, the 980 and 390X are more or less equivalent with the 980 performing better at 1080p and the 390X performing better at high pixel counts like 4K. It's hard to say how this would affect VR performance, not to mention it's hard to know if VR will optimize for non-Nvidia cards since at least Oculus seems to have specifically mentioned Nvidia rather than AMD in what they recommend. There's also the classic issue of drivers, where Nvidia just seems to pull away from AMD in almost all situations. If you have anything more recent that I could read, I'd be happy to try and parse it.

You can kill in two headshots, unless - You get melee killed by a Sunsinger with Flame Shield or a Defender with Force Barrier that procs on a melee kill You get melee killed by a Warlock with The Ram You get killed by Red Death with health regeneration on kill Your opponent takes cover after the first shot Your opponent blinks after the first shot You get killed by The Last Word, which has faster TTK Your aim is disrupted by a Pulse Rifle with high ROF and high-caliber rounds, which causes extreme stagger You get killed by OHKO secondary/heavy weapons That's a lot of counters and not all of them require extreme gunskill or situational awareness. None of this is to say that Thorn is not overpowered, because it is. I just don't think that it's uniquely overpowered, as TLW does kill faster than just about anything and there are people who can practically snipe with it. Or Firebolt Grenades can stop enemy regen through burning via Viking Funeral/Ignite and you can fire those around corners. Or Arc Grenades are practically instantaneous and go around corners and can kill three or more guys at a time. My point is just that Thorn is overused because it's in the meta, not because it's uniquely overpowered. Thorn could easily be nerfed if the burning effect was altered to be less devastating, it lost perks like Send It that gives it ungodly range, etc. It could also be nerfed if ARs were fixed, because ARs are supposed to be a close-to-middle range category that could potentially counter Thorn even more broadly than anything I've mentioned.
  19. Destiny

I haven't found Thorn to be particularly game-breaking, just boring as you said. I think it'd be different if it wasn't able to be countered, but TLW/snipers/shotguns are all more than enough to handle a Thorn user. But then again, maybe I'm biased. I brought three characters to rank 5 IB and got a flawless this weekend in Trials. I don't really know if Thorn is as easily countered by less enthusiastic PvPers.
  20. Destiny

The Suros is pretty nice! ARs aren't really in the PvP meta right now, but lots of people use it for PvE and enjoy it well enough. It doesn't really fire exactly like any other AR out there, which makes it fairly unique. Also, you're not obligated to join anything! I imagine that many of the nightly events for those of us in America won't be able to appeal to the Europeans among us due to the timing, but I'm sure we'll get weekend events going. I would have made an attempt to get a Crota group going this past weekend, but Iron Banner + an American holiday made it difficult.
  21. Nope. Video cards are backwards compatible with all PCI Express-equipped motherboards, granted your OS has drivers.

I took the lazy man's option of not driving out to any chicken place, and instead ordering fried chicken wings from my regular Chinese takeaway. I do not regret my decision -

Ugh, I was just in Colorado and my wife was telling me about how good Raisin' Canes was but I just now realized that we forgot to go to one that was like 5 minutes from our hotel.
