Persona 5 - 2015 the year of the PS3 / Persona Q - 3DS
JonCole replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
I really like the idea of taking a beloved franchise and licensing it out to high-quality third-party developers or handing it over to other internal teams for adaptation. Persona 4 Arena was a success (at least critically) because Arc System Works knows how to make good, accessible fighting games and the game was very much in the spirit of the original P4. So, if Persona Q is handled as you would expect by the Atlus team that does Etrian Odyssey and the sensibilities of the game are similar to P3/P4, I don't see why it wouldn't be a success. -

I feel like the average Persona fan (at least in the US) is a hardcore gamer who owns every platform known to man. -
Now you've got me lusting for a chair and my budget is practically nil. Was looking at this Eames-inspired thing... probably not the most comfortable thing in the whole world, but man does it look cool: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eames-Plywood-Lounge-Chair-Reproduction-NEW-COLORS-AVAIL-/321181945565?pt=US_Chairs&var=&hash=item4ac7ef8edd I mean, it's molded in the same fashion so I imagine it's going to beat the heck out of a sub-$100 office chair or my cheap futon in terms of comfort. Get some upholstery up on it and I'm sure it'd be very comfy.

Ah, on the note of HD collections I literally just bought a copy of Zone of the Enders: HD Collection because I loved the first one so much on PS2 and hadn't played the second one.

You could also consider a good office chair like the Ikea Markus - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20103101/

Two good days counts as a streak, right? -

I... never thought my stream would elicit a response like this. You're certainly welcome. -
Oh yeah, forgot you were into 3D. Motorstorm Apocalypse was the bundled game with the PlayStation-branded 120ghz Sony monitor and 3D glasses meant specifically for gaming. So naturally, it's a good title for 3D play.

Persona 3 FES is a PS2 classic, and Persona 3 Portable is on PSP and compatible with Vita. P3FES is actually $5 on the PSN Store right now, so that's where I picked it up for play on my PS3. -

Ah, yeah. I was really pushing it in those ice caves, I'm surprised I didn't die there rather than later on. Very generous location on the granted you're actually able to find them. -
I love the Infamous games, despite falling into the shooter category. I really think of them more as traversal/exploration games in the vein of Assassin's Creed. If you don't skip the Killzone/Resistance train entirely, I'd recommend Resistance 3. Gave me some really nice Half-Life vibes. Demon's Souls if you liked Dark Souls. Indie games... I liked Super Stardust HD quite a bit, falls into that category of Geometry Wars or simultaneously manic/precise evolutions of Asteroids. Heard good things about Tokyo Jungle, despite not playing it myself. Also in the category of games I haven't played but heard good things about, Heavenly Sword. If you have any interest in JRPGs, PS3's the best platform for Final Fantasy XIII. Also in JRPGs (and probably more accessible, enjoyable ones at that), Ni No Kuni is fantastic. Love that Studio Ghibli art style and aesthetic sensibility. Racing games... I love Wipeout HD, that is absolutely worth your time. Modnation Racers is a fun kart racer in the vein of Mario Kart, and Motorstorm is alright if you like offroad/arcadey racing. Of course, there's also Gran Turismo 5. That's about all I can think of, on top of what the others have said.

The name of Persona Q is apparently an homage to the Japanese name of Etrian Odyssey, which abbreviates to "SQ". I learned this from Jeremy Parish's somewhat deep dive analysis of the Atlus thing, very interesting stuff indeed - http://www.usgamer.net/articles/atlus-goes-all-in-on-persona -

Best run yet, now with more webcam! -
Man, the metagame for Spelunky is out of control. I haven't kept up with the LPers of Spelunky since the first month of Spelunky PC's release, and it's really evolved to a strange point of obsession. Here's a stream of one of my favorite LPers, Northernlion: It seems that he replaced some of the art assets with custom art (the main Spelunker is self-modeled), which is kinda goofy. Also, he's talking about something called Spelunky Bets that seems to be a Twitch-based LiveStream only system of people betting artificial currency on how a LPer will die. The LPer wins if they beat the game, or has to pay out if they die via spikes to one person, or via a tiki trap to a couple people who split the odds. Very weird stuff: http://spelunkyroulette.sparklinlabs.com/

Keep in mind that Persona 4 was released on PS2 in 2008. So, if you thought for even a second that Persona 5 would arrive in 2014/15 on PS4 your head was in the clouds. -

Fine tuning my video quality... just need to fine tune my gameplay: -

Shopkeeper tend to follow you, vertically or horizontally, even if you have a wall between you. A good way to easily kill one is to lead a shopkeeper towards an unactivated trap for a suicide. Another good way to easily kill one is to pick up a weapon in their own shop (rare item seller) and immediately kill them with it. You can easily do this with a shotgun, freeze ray, catcher's mitt + glue, or teleporter (well, if you call teleporting easy). -

Yesterday's challenge: Really working on fine-tuning this thing, unsatisfied by video quality and background noise on my mic. Hopefully today's video will be better. -

Despite his head being above water, he was technically "in the water" and there's no stomping on anything while you're in the water. -
I'd be down for TF2, haven't played a months but certainly could get back into it. I'm available after 4:30 EST on weekdays and most of the time on weekends. If whatever time works for others fits in that window, I'd be in.

That was amazing. Beware the TNT boxes! Even the smallest speck of blood or rock can set them off, even diagonally as you found out. -
At least here in the US Banjo Kazooie was bundled with Viva Pinata in a console SKU, don't know if you have the same elsewhere but here you can find it cheap fairly easily. In either case, it's also one of those platinum hits titles so it should be MSRP cheap too.
