  1. Spelunky!

It's kind of a gross new Internet thing and I don't actually want it on these forums, but this is the one thread where I would like to just be able to upvote things. I have nothing to say in response to Toblix's video except that I love it.
  2. Spelunky!

I have also done this exact thing, throwing a rock at a wall and taking myself out.
  3. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

EXACTLY the same way. That is nuts.
  4. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

So do we want this thread to be our de facto Explorers' Club or would people prefer to start picking and choosing notable days? I ask because this is my fourth day in a row and I don't want to spam the thread. Anyway, I would have posted this one regardless:
  5. Spelunky!

There's a bunch of us have shared steam names on a Spelunky thread in the multiplayer section!
  6. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

It's a pity about the sound... I have no idea how to do this, but could you guys do a split-screen video of both games while talking? Maybe that's too much to try and work out but I think it would be cool.
  7. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

That noise you made when you saw the jetpack in the store is more or less exactly how I react when I'm able to afford it, too. Great stream!
  8. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Ugh. Today's run was garbage. I'll still throw it on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/jjharney) but I won't post it here, not least because I forgot to lower the sound again so it's a bit tough to hear me ruminate on how I begin to panic as soon as my character suffers damage.
  9. Spelunky!

Thanks! Maybe that'll be my thing. Lessons in Chinese Communism while playing Spelunky. At first I wasn't entirely sure what happened and I immediately became focused on not having a video that ends with thirty seconds of me sighing in disappointment. I hadn't even noticed the arrow in the web and it never dawned on me that could happen. It's quite cool now, in retrospect, though rather devastating at the time.
  10. Spelunky!

I was having that problem too. The issue was that I hadn't added the source. I'm sorry, I'm at work right now and can't open up the program as it's on a different computer, but once I sorted that out it was plain sailing. I think at the bottom of the window under settings, there's a button to add a source. I remember that I had a little bit of trouble, but then Spelunky was right there in a short list of sources available (I had the game running). Once I figured that out, it just worked. There was also an issue where it was recording from the computer's mic as well as my mic, and that kind of... went away. There's a noise gate I'd like to use too because I'm right by the wall with the A/C on the other side but I'm not sure how to set that yet.
  11. Spelunky!

Cheers. Yeah, I think I turned the sound back up a bit in between recordings and forgot. The crazy thing is that it wasn't going all THAT badly at first, but I felt "off" the entire time. It must be incredibly frustrating to be off if you're actually decent.
  12. Spelunky!

Oh my God. What a bloody disaster my run was tonight. I love this game. There's something wrong with me.
  13. GTA V

I think the issue here is that he's talking about quite a broad group of people, but those people do reflect the bedrock of video game culture, at the very least to those looking in from the outside. Honestly, GTA V is an excellent game but I have become increasingly uncomfortable playing it and I'm not that far in (just past the torture scene). It feels like I'm being trolled, and I take exception to it. If Rockstar are mocking the empty-headedness of a "typical" GTA player, I'm a little miffed that I paid $60 for the privilege of having to put up with it. I intend to finish the game, and there are a lot of things I like about it, but this game is flat out ugly at times and I don't accept it as satire because the quality of that satire is astonishingly low and reminds me more of sophomoric teenage male rebellion than anything else. So yes, I'll keep playing (and no, that doesn't invalidate my issues) but I'm not sure I'll play another GTA game. I feel like a big opportunity has been missed here. GTA IV at least had an interesting story and Red Dead Redemption was fantastic. GTA V feels like a retrograde step. Case in point: when I get a cab now the camera just follows the cab as if I was driving it. I miss Liberty City.
  14. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Ah, ok. I'm completely new to this and don't have FRAPS.
  15. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I used Open Broadcast Software (as recommended by Spelunky Explorers' Club) and then changed the output from streaming to a file on my desktop. Then uploaded that.
  16. GTA V

Really enjoyed this. Wasn't aware of this programme.
  17. Spelunky!

Thanks man, nice of you to say! I had fun doing it, and it felt much less awkward than I expected. I'm going to keep it up for a while anyway.
  18. Spelunky!

Thanks! I'll do that next time. That ridiculous whipping of the arrow was pretty fantastic, I'm not going to lie. Just nuts.
  19. Spelunky!

Uploaded my first stream. Did reasonably well by my standards, though it ended badly. Doesn't it always... (I don't know how to embed video here...)
  20. Space Hulk

I heard the game was thoroughly disappointing but it seems like the devs brought out a patch that makes significant changes. Does anyone have experience with the game? I love the 40K universe and it's on sale.
  21. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I played Modern Warfare 2 and it convinced me never to touch a Modern Warfare game again. I hadn't quite realized how pointless the games were. I'm terrible at video games despite my love for them, but the Modern Warfare gameplay (at least in the one game I played) seemed almost automated. As for the content, yeah... not my cup of tea. The approach anyway.
  22. Spelunky!

Very cool. I think I'm going to start uploading my challenges too, though not sure how much of an audience there'll be for a guy that dies in 1-2 regularly.
  23. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Those flying rocks kill me. And, I'm useless at this game and yet I love it. I'm even considering uploading my runs to YouTube, a la much more talented and interesting people.
  24. Spelunky!

Done! On the thread anyway. I didn't hire anyone. Had a great run (for me) on my warmup, only died in the Jungle because about eight bees and a queen decided to ruin my day. Then promptly died a mundane death in 1-2 during the challenge.
  25. Spelunky!

I wonder is it worth opening a thread in multiplayer to encourage people?
