  1. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

I started playing it recently as well. I'm not finished the beginner training missions yet, but I've already been utterly, utterly owned on the first normal mission that required something other than picking up herbs or something like that. I really like it so far though. It's unlikely I'll get a chance to ad-hoc with anyone but still really enjoying the single player component.
  2. Dragon Age

The head stabbing was what sold me once and for all. I have no interest in those wishy-washy RPGs that fail to stab dragons in the head.
  3. Recommendations for non-fantasy Western RPGs

I want to try Bloodlines, it looks cool. Also, I second STALKER. It's not an RPG per se but it presses a lot of those buttons. Great game.
  4. Brütal Legend overload...!

I couldn't care less about the graphical stuff but I can see the other reasons the reviewer gave for the (comparatively) low score. I am BROKE at the worst time of year for someone who likes to play video games, but I will definitely grab this game in a few weeks.
  5. So how come PSN is so shit?

I have very little PSN stuff compared to XBL stuff, but there seems to be an interesting range of stuff on there. They don't have a lot of stuff that is on XBL, but there are a lot of PSN titles that would NEVER turn up on XBL, like Noby Noby Boy or even Flower. I think the Playstation Store has a ton of problems but there is potential there, and they make interesting decisions now and again.
  6. Brütal Legend overload...!

Yup, that pretty much sums up the awfulness of IGN. I don't think I've ever ROFLed in my life. What a pack of wankers.
  7. Red Faction: Guerilla

Wow, I am genuinely concerned that I have such a completely different impression of Red Faction to everyone else on the planet. I played the demo, said "meh" and moved on. I'll have to go back and have another look at some point.
  8. PAX East

I'm definitely going. Certainly up for meetings of thumbs.
  9. Oh wow, I've been living outside Europe for five years and I've never seen that new wrapper on trips home for Christmas. It makes me a little sad.
  10. Does Editor-at-Large give you some kind of awesome free ranging editing power, like a space ranger of game reviews? I'm sorry. I just wanted to type the words space ranger.
  11. Epic Disney on GameInformer

Just that cover image is fantastic to look at. I have no interest in Disney in either direction. A lot of people have childhood memories of Disney iconography that gives them a warm fuzzy feeling and a lot of people hate Disney. I'm in neither camp but you can't escape Mickey Mouse as pretty powerful example of popular culture. South Park had an episode last year that did a great job of playing off that. So, seeing that sample image gets me pretty excited for the game.
  12. Demon's Souls

Hmmmm, nuts..... Just checked again and they have it in stock in my nearest two Best Buy stores now. They didn't at launch. Interestingly, if you order online from Best Buy the game is already backordered and will take 1-2 weeks to come through. I still think it's likely they didn't order a lot, but it's encouraging that it's moving off shelves.
  13. Demon's Souls

Unfortunately, their allocation was probably quite small. I got the last copy in my nearest Gamecrazy, most of the other ones they got in were pre-ordered. Best Buy, where I usually get games, wasn't even carrying it, at least not this week. After a considerable amount of time I beat the boss of the first section and got to a point where I could start improving my dude's stats. Reminds me of my experiences with Ninja Gaiden: what seemed impossible three hours earlier is now doable at worst, easy at best. Most of the time. Having a great time with this game. Will probably start leaning on co-op soon though!
  14. Demon's Souls

I got it yesterday, what a cool game this is. I'm usually not one for steep difficulty curves but the reviews challenged me to emphasise what little "old schoolness" existed in my video game ego. I died in the tutorial. Admittedly, it was my own fault for being an idiot. This game is fantastic.
  15. (IGN.com)

This is pretty awful. So awful in fact, that it blows me away ign.com.
  16. Odious Tea

Yup, I chuckled like the immature thumb that I am every time one of the NPCs cries out "buggers!"
  17. Odious Tea

Finally finished the campaign (thanks, real life and other video games). I really enjoyed it, though I do wonder if I'd have had an even better time if I remembered ANYTHING from Halo 3's story except for the very end.
  18. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I never touched the first game. All the hype and expectation about Uncharted 2 makes me want to pick it up on the cheap. I'll probably just pick up Uncharted 2 when it comes out though, can't really face yet another addition to my massive pile in the "going to play really soon, honest" section. This game looks rad.
  19. Trine

I didn't buy it on PC, even when it was on sale... I use a mac and bootcamp to play Steam games. Sometimes I neglect PC games a little. Thing is, I might rethink the whole thing. Never too late to support the game I guess. I have been wanting to give it a shot for ages.
  20. Trine

Finally coming out on PSN on October 22nd. I feel bad... I read in more than one review that the game worked much better with a controller, but now I feel like I could have supported the game more. It seems really good, but it hasn't done as well as it could have. I wish I could justify paying for it twice, financially.
  21. Comics

Ah!!! My curse of reading through the thread too quickly. I'm going to read every book you recommended in that post. Eventually.
  22. Comics

I am very glad this thread exists. I started reading comics a year ago when a friend gave me The Walking Dead hardback volume 1 for my birthday. I love it, it's really good. I'm always trying to get a better idea of what to read next. Otherwise, I'll just repeat comics here have mentioned... consider it a vote! Y: The Last Man is groovy. I also really enjoyed Preacher. I tried the first collected volume of Transmetropolitan and really didn't like it, but most people seem to think it's fantastic. I've also been trying to read more superhero stuff... I just finished the first seven issues book of Civil War... I'd be interested in classic superhero tales. I read The Man Who Laughs and The Dark Knight Returns recently and liked them. Also, Thunderpeel, I'm glad your reading order for Hellboy exists, I want to get into that.
  23. Novelty candy shops? I can't decide if that sounds awesome or not. I'd probably be disappointed if I walked into one and wasn't greeted with Gene Wilder being completely insane. Living in the US these days, I do miss chocolate. Although I do like a Baby Ruth bar.
  24. PSP

Yup, if anything I may pass on the PSP Go as an act of consumer voting; the price is just not on, really.
  25. PSP

Yeah, it makes by far the most sense to get one of the slightly older PSPs. I am drawn to the Go though... we'll have to see. But then, we like video games right? Buying systems can be a part of it sometimes.
