Yup, I agree completely. I'm sure it's a very good game, but I loved Bioshock dearly in spite of the combat more than anything else. The sequel just isn't doing anything to inspire my interest.

I'm so excited about this game, I'm going to "do the monkey." It looks great.

I agree completely that AC2 feels like a completely different game in many ways. I enjoyed climbing buildings in AC1, but the main story was boring and some of the decisions made (like the game's ending) were baffling in their stupidity. On the other hand, I really enjoyed AC2. I'm even looking forward to the third game. A bit. Certainly more than I thought I would ever be!

For me the only application of "so bad, it's good" in video games is in story or setting, or maybe lead character. Shadow Complex's protagonist is so douchey it's mind-blowing, but he's surrounding by an amazing game and I really don't care. I feel like I've wiped the worst games I've played from my memory. I personally loathed the Leisure Suit Larry games despite the fact I loved all the other Sierra point and click games.

System Shock 2 is one of those games I've heard about for years and years but never had a chance to play when it came out. I'll have to hunt down a copy, though my Steam-spoiled baby ways cause me to be very, very sad I can't buy it somewhere online.

I've just played the worst 360 game ever...

I, sir, salute your courage. -
Well, I do like her back story, or rather what little detail she's said so far. I'll definitely do her side mission. I doubt I'll include her on teams after that though. I'm probably just too sensitive about the "emo" crap. Absolutely loving the game though.

Dear God, this game rocks. I have to go on a short trip with no 360 to play it on now, and I'll be in severe withdrawals! I really feel it's superior to the original in every way. Also, a possibly spoiler-ish opinion, especially if you've been ignoring preview coverage:

Yeah, I feel like it's just a decision to alienate as few people as possible. I don't mind bad language in my podcasts but I do in other situations. Some people find it a turn off. It's funny listening to the PC Gamer podcast though, I've never even noticed thumbs swearing all that much. I guess I'm desensitized.

Gamers who only play games in their native language... that's not English?
Irishjohn replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Well, in Taiwan the emphasis is really on gaming cafes, and MMOs are a big deal. WOW has done reasonably well there, but there are a lot of Asia-based MMOs that do really well. In my experience, home consoles are not super popular in Taiwan. The Taiwanese people that I would chat to about games didn't like the expense involved in owning a home console. This doesn't hold true for handhelds though; the DS and PSP both seemed to do very well when I was still living there. I speak Chinese, but I'm not Taiwanese, so I won't pretend to be an expert. This is the impression I have from people I talked to in Taiwan (not to mention the obvious popularity of gaming cafes... they're everywhere). So really, the PC is the dominant platform in Taiwan and in China. It's not hard to find fully translated versions of western RPGs and big titles (like the Orange Box) in Taiwan. -
Also, I didn't make it clear, but I DID play games on my PC when I was a teenager, and went on hiatus for a good while before coming back recently.

I started playing PC games reasonably actively (as much as consoles) in the last year, and is it me or are things considerably better than they were in the late 1990s? I'm running on a relatively new computer but I haven't had anything completely nuts. Even S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has behaved well, though I suspect I've been lucky in that regard. How about you guys that never strayed, that stayed true to the cause, that plan to die with your PC towers clutched in your cold dead hands? Are things better or have I just forgotten how much I was trying to push limited hardware when I was 17? DISCLAIMER of my own: I'm pretty forgiving and will play games at basic settings (within reason) as long as they work.

Gamers who only play games in their native language... that's not English?

I was living in Taiwan in the midst of the original Xbox era, and the local translations of games was a joke. This was just as well for me, but it would have been cool to play Fable in Chinese. I remember that Halo 2 had very good localization, and was heavily promoted as such (though the English options were all available). Nintendo games, meanwhile, were in Japanese only. Gamecube games were much more expensive than Xbox games, too. Resident Evil 4 was relatively trouble-free because the audio was all English, but my attempts at playing Wind Waker were a complete disaster. Coming from a Chinese language background the more kanji the better, but most GC games I tried opted mostly for hiragana and katakana. At least English is my first language! It must have been trying to be a Taiwanese Xbox owner unless you were playing Halo. -
I had to stay away from that sale!! Couldn't trust myself, and I'm always broke Christmas week anyway. Very awesome though. It'll probably drop again before the summer. I'm waiting for that and maybe Tropico 3. Maybe.

It's a fascinating idea, if they make it come even close to working.

This is one of those games I keep meaning to get but never pull the trigger on, even walking into a store to get it and coming out with something else. Or, in the last year or so, going to Steam and downloading something else. With Mass Effect 2 imminent and Dragon Age still fresh, not sure if I'll ever play it now!
-
Seems cool. I had actually never heard of the game until I read this. I share your issues with MMOs, though. There never seems to be time. I've been messing around on EVE Online recently, but I'll never become a major figure in a corp or anything. I'd give this a shot though; I'll support any MMO based in space!

I have ignored Uncharted 2 for far too long. It's just been goty'd too much to ignore.

I've always had a similar problem, particularly with graphics. I'm trying to get better, too. I have two early Phantasy Star games just sitting there on my Wii, waiting to be played. It's weird, because I was playing games when the Master System type graphics were the norm, but I have to retrain my expectations I think.
-
I still haven't got that early bird ticket... I'll definitely go if I'm around, but I might be out of the US while it's on.

I love the title of this thread. I'm not sure why, but I've never expected to arrive this site and see a hateful attack on Wave Race. That might be because I've never played the game though.
-
To be honest, 2009 wiped me out as far as my video game budget can go, and 2010 is looking worse! It's only a matter of time though...
-
Crap, how did I miss that? It's a great game. I'm with Aku on the "desperate attempt for legitimacy" take. I stopped paying attention to that site after the Kane & Lynch fiasco. I didn't boycott it, or get high and mighty; I just don't see the need to go to that site anymore.

Giant Bomb named this game their DS game of the year. They've been talking it up for months and I don't know how much longer I can hold out! Interesting to read some of the comments here, though. I've never played a Mario and Luigi game, so I'd like to give it a try.

I had trouble with the asteroids as well, and I knew about both triggers. It got a bit frustrating, but I really enjoyed the old-school feel to that whole section of the game.
