Half Minute Hero.... time to dust off your PSP!
Irishjohn replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I second this, the game wasn't stressful at all. Really nice game, definitely worth a try for the video game/JRPG humour alone! -
AGH! I am in the US region, too. Forgot to include that in my post.

This, also, is me. I'm not being humble, either, I've never played MP and I struggle in the single player. Still up for it though. I am slowly churning through singleplayer too but I am up for playing. Irishjohn - 926 - john.harney@gmail.com

A Rudimentary Poll: PC or Consoles and your gaming background
Irishjohn replied to Squid Division's topic in Video Gaming
I played Atari 2600 with my uncles though I barely remember it. Most of the first twelve years of my life were spent bouncing around between Amstrad, Commodore and PC games until I got an NES. I played mostly PC games for my teens but got to a point where I wasn't able to play anything even remotely up to date, so I gradually got back into consoles. These days I'm playing more PC stuff again though I'm committed to laptops for various (mostly work) reasons. So kind of all over the place. I like ADVENTURE GAMES and FPS games (because they sometimes have great stories) and all other types of things. Survey complete! -
It's funny you mention it, I'm more than happy to play a game on easy, even if it's occasionally too easy for words, to enjoy a good story. I play Elder Scrolls games with all the difficulty sliders at zero because I just want to click through dudes and then talk to other dudes.

So, I picked up this game in the Steam sale finally. I'd been tempted for a couple of weeks. I liked it a lot. I really didn't mind a lot of the problems mentioned in reviews, and here. However... yesterday I rage-uninstalled a game for the first time in a long time. Is that even a thing? I got to Brayko, and I had levelled up hand to hand and stealth. He was so difficult with my spec that I just packed it in. A Sega guy on twitter was giving me links to tactics and I found a forum full of people explaining to people like me that we are all idiots for not being good at this game. A game that in every single review was lambasted for gameplay issues...

I'm really intrigued by the game actually, kind of hoping for the same experience. I seem to play so many FPS games purely for story that I don't think the other problems guys here are having here would really bother me. Unless those grenade spam with legs things put me in an early grave.

Soundtracks for the video-games, and your most beloved ones
Irishjohn replied to Snooglebum's topic in Video Gaming
I always liked the soundtrack to the first F.E.A.R. game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUUDPvQLJ70 -
Thanks man. I think if I do wait until early next year, using the SSD as a system disk with an extra HD will make sense.

I don't mean to resurrect this thread as free tech advice, but I was hoping some thumbs could give me advice. I play games using Boot Camp on a Macbook Pro. The fact that this sucks, and some very bad luck with Mac machines (all three of my Macs have had major problems within two months of the standard 12 month warranty running out) I'll be getting a PC laptop early next year. I have to use laptops because I travel a lot. My big question is this: is it worth paying for quad-core processors over dual-core at the moment, assuming I will definitely get a laptop with a 1GB video card? Also, what about SSDs? If I got the computer sooner I couldn't afford it but maybe next year. Anyway, maybe this can start a chat about how useful quad-core processors are for games on the PC. I'd be grateful for your opinions guys.

That is exactly the word for it. I am suffering. Some of those deals are difficult not to take. Zeno Clash for the price of a pint?

Steam proves it is awesome and evil once again. I am going to have to try and exert some form of will power here. Some.... form...

I really shouldn't talk because Demon's Souls sits proudly at the head of my own backlog, but if you can get through the first couple of hours (when it is indeed extremely frustrating) you enter a kind of zen hypnosis where you are really enjoying yourself. You'll be glad. Also, if you don't mind min-maxing a little, some classes are easier than others. Man, I need to go back and get stuck into Demon's Souls.
-
I am truly dumbfounded. I don't get to use that word very often.

Even assuming a massive step forward in the tech and a death blow to lag, it's just hard to see the iPad or tablet devices being that big a deal for this kind of game. Until they bring out an oversized iPad dock compatible classic N64 controller with optional rumble pack. Then, problem solved.

DUDE. I was really enjoying the game but the second area just would not die. I just cleared it and I'm taking a break for a while before I go back. Dragged on so long it almost killed my interest in playing the game.

I can offer no help with emulators I'm afraid, and though I can't speak to whether or not the appeal remains strong today, at the time, the Amiga was extremely awesome.

I don't know, I'm at the point where Destructoid gives it a great review (Sterling is completely untrustworthy), Giantbomb gives it a good review (Ryan was the Giantbomber going nuts for this game, not so much Brad, who reviewed it) and Eurogamer gave it an ok review. I say it breaks even, so I will continue with my completely unjustified excitement. Nice review from EG though. Seemed like they had been on a bit of a "games are art, so we're going to write crazy long reviews that try to pose as modern lit" trip for a while.

Cool. I think I'll miss the punch in the back move! I might fire this up later in the week and look out for thumbs.

Well, watch it again! Seriously though, if you really liked it at the time, I can't imagine your opinion would change that much. I found myself outraged over things I wasn't aware I cared about (i.e. Midichlorians) but really, I was mostly just bored and terribly disappointed. Like I said, may be an age thing. I know this is a Halo: Reach thread, but how do you feel about Episodes 2 and 3?
-
I got okay at Halo 3 multiplayer after a while, but there was horribleness at the start. Can't speak for Reach as I haven't tried it yet, but to get past the initial uselessness level at least, get into high rate of fire while running at a dude followed by melee elbowing a dude in the face. That's as far as I've ever gotten with Halo multiplayer!!!

That 20 hours sounds like a lot of fun according to this thread. I think I have to finally get Just Cause 2.
-
I am by no means a huge Star Wars fan, but my jaw just dropped. I am genuinely stunned you like Episode One. Maybe it is an age thing. I was in college, a group of us went on the afternoon of the opening day, and I've rarely been so disappointed in my life. Not trying to make fun of you or be rude at all. Just stunned!

I got the first game for my girlfriend just after Diabolical Box. She loves it. I guess they were on to something!

Hear, hear. I want to go back to Fallout 3 just to wander around aimlessly and ignore the story. I just couldn't help but drive on to find Liam Neeson the first time. I just started Oblivion on the PC, too, with the same object in mind.
