I had some issues with it but I got through. Just keep SCVs on Tychus and pump out defensive units back at base as much as you can. I actually expanded too, and took the first mineral field that Tychus opens up. It might have been that I happened to tech up just right before I got to that level, though.

The zerg rush is classic, though. If the zerg player can do it, it sucks for us. One of my more enjoyable moments playing the game so far was playing a zerg player. He opened a chat two minutes in and asked what I was up to. I said not much and asked him back. "I'm going to rush you :)" Then he kicked my ass. I saw the funny side of it.

I'm good with that too.

I'm back, again, asking about dual cores and quad cores. El Muerte gave me good advice before (see above) but I have ONE MORE question I need to ask. I have to get a laptop for various reasons and the one that I want does not offer switchable graphics on the i7 model. Furthermore, the highest i5 (i5-520M) goes to 2.93GHz on turbo boost but the i7 that I can reasonably afford (i7-720QM) goes to 2.8GHz on turbo boost. The i7 would thus affect battery life pretty badly, which is not good for my professional life, but irresponsibly enough I just want to make sure I can play games on this thing for the duration that I own it (I'm guessing three years). The graphics card is the same thing on both models. So if I can't afford a slightly better i7, is there a point or should I just get an i5? I'm sure many Thumbs will be horrified at my lack of knowledge, but that higher overall number on the i5 is confusing me. Thanks again lads, I apologise to ask for help again but I can blame all of you for getting me back in front of my PC more than my consoles for the first time in years.

I also can't do Thursday. It's a pity you can't do Tuesday, that's normally good for me (maybe next time). Monday or Wednesday then?

No mockery from me!!! Brayko made me quit the game and uninstall it. I'm going to eventually try the whole game again on Easy, just to enjoy the conversation stuff and not worry about coming up against some dude I can't defeat.

Yeah, I agree. The logic is, I suppose, that cheese will only take you so far. I'm still at an astonishingly low level but I can at least deal with some of the cheese tactics.

And maybe the podcast will come back... I agree, I really like the forums here, the only forum I regularly check in on. Welcome to new people!

You must have beaten 9 gold and silver players and lost to 20 diamond players!! I'm regularly slightly favoured, only to be thoroughly thrashed. I'm not sure if I'm being inconsistent or not. The last guy against whom I was slightly favoured was Protoss, expanded crazy early and hit me with a Void Ray rush on one side and a Stalker rush on the other. Not efficient perhaps but blew the crap out of my base.

They really, really do. They love talking about how into the "lore" the fans are. Granted, that's a suitable term for fantasy franchises, and there's a lot of WOW fans (as well as Diablo and SC fans) pumping stuff out, but it's a bit much.

I agree with this. DOW2 is definitely goofy, but to be fair, they kind of got there first. I don't mean for this devolve into "this scene good, that scene bad" but I actually didn't mind at all, while I thought the was unbelievably bad.

I'm sure this is old news for everyone else who uses the Internet, but it turns out forums that aren't this one are kind of lame. It's not that hard on the starcraft2.com forums to find an interesting thread but it gets me down going through all the smart-arse comments from "holier than thou" Internet gits. Anyway. I have now won 9 games out of about 25 in 1v1. I feel like I am very slowly getting better, but I need to get those SCVs out in force.

Never mind, the Xbox version has issues. Oh well.

Ha, weird, your link leads to a two star review, but the homepage flashbox type thing leads to a THREE star review!!! Gerstmann and Kane & Lynch! I'd love it if this were a joke but I'm sure it's much more mundane. I know I should read the reviews but it's late in Texas and I'm off to bed.

I know it is said often and by many, but man that guy bums me out. I avoid Destructoid half the time because I don't want to inadvertently give him clicks. I was interested in the original after the review that said the PC version was good (pointed to by thumbs) but it wouldn't run on my computer. I haven't bothered to try and get it up and running yet. Fucking PC Gaming, etc. etc. I'm kind of interested in any game set in modern day East Asia. So I might pick it up in the future but I have very little interest "at launch", as it were.

We'll have to play online anyway. I'm away for the weekend but maybe next week sometime. The Bronze division/league/ladder thing is kicking my ass. I have two wins, one of which I think came because of a disconnect or something. I feel like the people I'm playing go at the speed of light.

Very fair point, and I completely agree. The trailer is very good at evoking some of that original Bioshock excitement, at least for me. It will be very interesting to see a really well told story that is looking at a negative aspect of American history. I think I am mostly just perturbed by the way Levine threw around a number without context. People talk about American imperialism in the Philippines a fair bit, and overlook the fact that America was terrible at it. After an extremely uncool step in invading the country in the first place, America spent the best part of fifty years trying to be some kind of enlightened colonizer. Some of the more conservative Japanese colonizers looked at American activity in the Philippines as an example of what not to do when they were forming policy in Taiwan and Korea. But yes, that doesn't excuse America by any measure. Anyway, sorry to nerd out again. I should point out that I am no Philippine history expert, just generally interested.

I must say, all those hot air balloons got me excited. I love that aspect to some steampunk worlds: the use of hot air balloons to such an extent seems utterly absurd, but then we had the Wright brothers, and they did not. Wait a minute, will this mean no biplanes? I'm with you on the biplanes.

I am down for this with US players. Really enjoying SC2 online despite proving to myself that my worst fears were true... I am only marginally better than someone who catches up on their reading while playing SC2 online, checking the screen every five minutes or so. I just get absolutely torched. Still, a free for all could be fun. I know it was never even remotely on the cards but it's a pity the game doesn't have Steam integration, I'm a member of the thumbs group but I've never played a PC game with other thumbs. That's why this thread exists, obviously, but it would just be easier.

I guess they're going for a similar thematic feel or general aesthetic, and that makes it a "Bioshock" game. The way 1up reported Levine's comments, it seems like he's big into reflecting historical periods. I get that he's stylizing quite heavily, but it's really quite misleading to say the US "killed" 1 million people in the Philippines. It's not that simple, and worryingly, I think he got this figure from wikipedia. My background by the way: full time historian, not an American. That's just a nerdy point though, I am excited by the game, or at least the possibility of it. Bioshock 2 never got me this interested.

I agree, it misses that sweet spot where the story could have been cheesy but even more enjoyable because of it. It's just cheesy. I like the campaign most when it reminds me of playing video games in the early to mid-1990s, but then I get a bit sad when I realise that at Blizzard, they still think this stuff is cool. They're not just referencing it, or highlighting stuff that can still feel cool. I liked a lot of the touches but I felt like I was making allowances way too often. I still enjoyed the single player an awful lot though, and I am actually daring to play multiplayer.

Thanks mate, will do. I think we're friends in SC2 already but I'll check. Between grading and helping people move all weekend, I'm struggling to make time, and I'm hurting!

I agree. I really liked Torchlight and I'm only getting into Diablo type gameplay now. I didn't play Diablo when it first came out. Looking forward to playing this co-op version with Thumbs.

I played in one of the first games and it seemed pretty good, although I died early on in a Bismarckian apocalypse. I tried to keep logging in just to check in on stuff but it's a bit sad when you have zero planets. This name scrambling stuff is cool, I'm back in for the next round for sure.

That's awesome man. I'm thinking of dipping my toe in before I finish the campaign.
