That's a shame, I'd like to see some other people's results from doing it, and considering I don't know much about roguelikes it would me cool to see it from a fellow thumb.

It's difficult to talk from the perspective of an empty character unless you basically just play that character, from what little I know about Dwarf Fortress I'm not sure how difficult that'd be, but if you take a little bit of time you can start explaining how processes within a game can be explained in real life. For instance, everybody nowadays knows that a block of cobblestone with some black speckles is coal, an empty character however, wouldn't have that explicit knowledge, to get around this, I simply stated that I took the ore from the rock and threw it to the ground in an attempt to smash it, from this I noticed several sparks. I then attached the coal to a stick (so as to give me a chance to not burn my hand should my suspicions prove true) and dragged it against a wall, to which it lit. This proved that the item was coal. It's actually a process you take for granted as an ordinary gamer, chopping down a tree is difficult when you're using your bare hands, and have you ever wondered how, when all you've really done is stuck four blocks together, suddenly your "workbench" can produce a multitude of tools with nothing but your bare hands? To me it kinda feels like DM'ing, but backwards.

I previously started a let's play of Minecraft on my YouTube channel, but I decided that it just wasn't good enough to watch and that everybody had already done one. So roll around 1.8 and I decided it was a good enough time to try again, only this time, I wondered what I could do to make mine different from everybody else's, and then I remembered how much I loved hearing of the Thumbs' anecdotes within video games (many revolving around Far Cry 2) and how much I used to love telling my own stories in Oblivion. So here is "A World of Blocks" my very own attempt to give Minecraft a logical narrative while also creating an entertaining format that hasn't been seen much for this game. Or in other words, I wrote up some stuff that happened in Minecraft, took some screenshots and put it on my blog. You can read it here: A World of Blocks

This sounds like a really cool thing to be in, but due to certain restraints, at the moment it's just not a possibility for me to join. I'd love to give it a bash someday though.

This one, I like. Although true, the backtick is frequently called the tilde key.

Tilde? Just coming off the whole dev console thing...

I have no idea how on Earth I killed that thing, but I somehow got lucky.

I completed every single sidequest on that game, and yet my experience with that boss was hiding behind a pillar and only coming out to shoot when I knew it was safe, as it could demolish me in 3 hits.

I'd like to ask as to what sense it was a disappointment? Just because I'm fairly sure that unless you had fundamental problems with the game, this one will be better.

I think I'm with most of the other users here, Skyrim may end up being just Oblivion 1.5, but that doesn't bother me because that's pretty much all I want, I'll give you my money and you give me however many hundreds of hours of gameplay that I'll absolutely love and enjoy. Fair deal. Sure, they may not deliver on everything that they're promising, but it's not too much of a big deal because they're adding new stuff and new systems and overall improving the game. You could draw a comparison to DLC, but at the end of the day we're getting all new, fresh content, with new systems and a new storyline. If you want that, buy this game. If you don't want that, stay away from this game.

I got round to finishing Borderlands eventually. Really good game though, had a lot of fun with it although I kinda felt that the end was slightly lacklustre and a bit too fast. I haven't done the DLC and I don't plan to, although I completed every single quest in the main game. As was said in the podcast at some point, the final boss really was just stupid and easy. I felt like I had cheated the game by just standing there, hid behind a pillar shooting it until it was dead, only moving when it attacked to take cover, but I digress, they had to end with something. EDIT: Also, I quite liked the way that the developers seemed to embrace the use of just running about and trying to jump up buildings, it's usually something that game designers (especially in RPG's) don't like to allow the player to do and add invisible walls and such to stop you from jumping up onto buildings, but Borderlands allows and encourages it.

Well I found two games of particular interest very cheap on http://www.greenmangaming.com/ Magicka is £3.97 if you haven't got it/actually want it. And Bioshock is heading the main page at only £4.49, which is tempting me because I'm a n00b that hasn't played it yet.

Gotta give these cops credit, they're persistent. Gotta give these cops credit, they're persistent. Gotta give these cops credit, they're persistent. Gotta give these cops credit, they're persistent. Gotta give these cops credit, they're persistent. Considering that they can't come up with more than three lines of dialogue for the main characters, I can't see how they'll fare with an entire city full of cars.

More like, Drive: San Franshitsco! No but seriously, even if it is logical on their end, don't they see all the internet hate for their DRM?

Was going to say weeping angels myself. Also, would be nice to see what Notch does with the recently released aether mod.

I support this movement, like little spikey towers...

If that thing just steals blocks from anything you've created, it's be the best. Like it just walks up, takes your block and then walks off to it's lava pit, throws block in lava pit. Comes back...

Out of interest, is this simply your german skills or did you find this information from a different source?

I take it Google Translate wouldn't be sufficient enough then would it?

When science works well and makes stuff like this, it makes me happy.

Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server
SometingStupid replied to MrHoatzin's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I understand your plight, but I do like the dynamic of having to build, mine or just wander throughout the world while struggling to survive an outbreak of mobs. Although you'd think that as long as you've set up correctly, the only mobs that will ever be a problem is the ones that you run into while mining, which can usually be sorted out pretty quickly, swamp the walls with torches and block up any holes and you should be fine. That said, I also fully understand how they can be a nuisance. Also, I'm up for a re-roll, when I actually bought a computer that can play games I found that the server was pretty big and I was somewhat intimidated by it. -
Eventually decided to drop some money on a new computer, quite a nice rig but could do with a little RAM, only, I can't see a damn thing that it's supposed to put onto my screen. Tried it on my TV originally, but got an,"Out of Range." message, which I decided was down to the fact that I bought it off my mate and his TV was slightly better than mine, so the computer had probably adjusted to that. So now I have a monitor, and i'm having some trouble with that too. When it's turned on without any cable in, I get a green on the power light and a no signal cable message, that's understandable. But as soon as I put a vga cable into it (the only one it has a port for) it switches into power saving mode, even if the computer isn't turned on. Any help that you thumbs can give? I'm using an NVidia GeForce GTX 8800 as my graphics card, and an old LG L1511SE.

I kinda felt it was a bit "Shin-Ra" Final Fantasy VII, so I know exactly what you mean there.
