  1. Summer Steam Sale

I went ahead and got Osmos for $2.50 and was really pleasantly surprised. I'd heard a lot about the game, but reading descriptions just doesn't do it justice. There's something about the mechanic where you shrink as you propel yourself that adds a depth to both the gameplay and the themes of the game. Highly recommended.
  2. Red Dead Redemption

I feel like I'm reading a classified CIA document... I need to hurry up and finish this thing.
  3. Joe Danger

I got it and have been really enjoying it. And yes, it is super-deep compared to something like Trials, which is kind of my problem. I guess I feel kind of aimless. I love the idea of tons of challenges to accomplish for a single level, but i have no idea what the main thing I'm supposed to be doing is. I find myself switching mid-race between hitting targets, collecting coins, collecting stars, and doing tricks.
  4. Red Dead Redemption

The other day, just after I had gotten my lasso, I went to go capture a bandit for a bounty. Of course, I wanted to try capturing him alive, so when I finally killed off his buddies, I lassoed, hogtied him, and placed him on my horse. At that point I remembered that there are often treasure chests at these bandit hideout locations, so I ran into an abandoned, dilapidated house and got what money was there. As I was running back to the horse, I saw red dots approaching - reinforcements! They shot at me and my horse ran off with the leader still on it! Because I was determined to bring him in alive, I got on some other horse and chased him for a literal five minutes, all the while fighting off other bandits and trying to shoot the horse out from under him. The horse ran along the riverbank and finally I shot the horse. The horse fell down. The guy, still hogtied, fell off of the horse and to my horror rolled all the way into the river and died a horrible death by drowning. Not only did I not get the bigger payout for bringing him in alive, but I felt awful!
  5. Red Dead Redemption

So... I've never played any of the GTA games.. were they as glitched out as this one seems to be?
  6. Alan Wake

So has anyone been playing this? I've only played about an hour so far, and I stumbled around a lot, but I've been really pleasantly surprised by this one. The concept is intriguing enough and I'm finding the horror/thriller elements to be extremely well done and effective at scaring the ever-loving crap out of me at times. I can see how the combat may eventually get repetitive at times, but the game seems to be a master at instilling a narrative desire in the player to the point that I probably won't even notice I'm growing bored with the light/gun combo. Looking at videos of the cut scenes and the characters, I didn't expect to even remotely like them or car about them, but I was really enjoying Alan's wife's company and found Alan to be a pretty relatable guy. I think part of the reason for that is that right off the bat they are established as vulnerable. Alan's nightmare unveils some of his own self-doubt, and he wife's fear of the dark seem like more than mere plot devices.
  7. Red Dead Redemption

I'm glad someone mentioned the multiplayer issues. I haven't had any connectivity problems, but I did ride around on an invisible horse for about 15 minutes last night. Oh, and I shot an invisible gun as well. Needless to say, it was disorienting and kind of killed the experience. So far my favorite in-game moment was just after I got to Armadillo or whatever and was just getting used to the controls. I heard a woman screaming for helping, saw a man beating her senseless, and couldn't figure out how to punch him out or shoot him in the heat of the moment. By the time I figured it out, she was dead and bloodied on the ground and he had run off into the field. The amazing part was chasing him down on foot and shooting him in the back. For some reason I lost honor for that, but it felt kind of good. Most of all, it felt like the Wild West.
  8. Neptune's pride

Okay, so some dude is offering a trade, but when I told him I was new to the game (largely as a diplomatic ploy) and asked him a bit about how trading worked, he told me that if I gave him a tech, I don't lose it but am instead giving him a copy. Is this true or is he trying to trick me?
  9. Neptune's pride

    Here you go:
  10. Neptune's pride

Okay, so I'm really enjoying it, but still in the early stages of the game. It's clear that the yellow guy is dominating and me and the red guy seem to be most at risk. I'd like to join up with the red guy to take this guy out. So, stupid question: how exactly might I go about doing that? I'm just not clear on how combat would work with two different players attempting to attack the same fleet. What's the best way to go about this, assuming the red guy is willing to cooperate?
  11. New people: Read this, say hi.

Yep, that's it - conveniantly linked to the games section.
  12. New people: Read this, say hi.

After listening and lurking around the forums for far too long, I thought I'd go ahead and put myself out there. I've been seriously playing games since about the time the first original Idle Thumbs podcast came out, and have since been extremely interested in games as an artistic medium - but also as really fun sometimes. Yes, I bought Far Cry 2 because of Idle Thumbs and I absolutely loved it. This may seem weird, but I'm in charge of a Christian-oriented popular culture web site, where we try to analyze and appreciate culture from a Christian perspective. I write pretty regularly about video games and their moral, religious and ethical implications there. Can't wait to join in on the discussions here. It's hard to find a friendly, sane, and not-so-overwhelming forum to discuss video games on the internet.
  13. Shadow Complex!

Am I the only one who thinks this game looks incredibly ho-hum and boring? The name and the turrets are just the tip of the iceburg. The iceburg is a bunch of boring stuff I've seen before.
