I think that makes perfect sense, brawlers are pretty much all about simple mindless fun. An open world with strategy elements, that's a bit more mentally taxing. It's kinda like if Geometry Wars turned into a game of Sim City five minutes in, there's nothing wrong with Sim City, but when you're expecting Geometry Wars it's a real disappointment. I still feel that way about Half-Life 2

I tried Diablo II for the first time about a month ago. I played for about five hours before stopping, saying to myself "Oh I can see why so many people sink so much time into this," and then deleting the game so I wouldn't be tempted to lose more time to it.

Has anyone tried playing this game with the Donut Drake skin. Suddenly it makes sense why buildings and bridges collapse the second Drake gets on top of them. Not to mention the two dozen doors that slam behind you for no reason.
-
There are definitely prerendered cut scenes, but the only real way to tell the difference is to select a different player model for the single player campaign, and watch out for when the Drake model suddenly shows up.
-
Clearly our only hope of bypassing those technical limitations is to invent some sort of teleportation rig. Quick! Someone learn some physics!

I don't care if you do end the podcast, I'm still going to listen to Idle Thumbs, this just means I'll have to plant bugs in Chris, Jake and Nick's homes, offices, and phones to do so.

The boss took me forever to beat, but I knew from the second the battle started what I needed to do. Here's a guy in a room, full of what are essentially exploding red barrels. What's there to figure out? Sounds like your problem is you need to use more grenades. When in doubt, grenade.

My parents got divorced when I was eleven, and you know what, this is worse.

And then when you hear that it has not you dive back into the ocean and start swimming back to the island.

Usually I can sink a couple dozen hours into any puzzle game I try, but Lumines got boring to me in under an hour. But I know people who absolutely love it and have sunk dozens if not hundreds of hours into it. I think Lumines just sort of clicks with you or it doesn't.
-
And if you get bored of all of them you'd have enough time that you could train to play all of them at once.

It just occurred to me that when it comes to desert island games Lost in Blue might be the best choice. I don't know if it's fun or not, but it could hold vital survival information. Your island does have internet, it's just if you use it to call for help they stick the balloon on you. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6Ffr1U7KMY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6Ffr1U7KMY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Just because that's the only game you have on the desert island doesn't mean you have to play it every day. Although I don't see why you wouldn't crown yourself god/king of the island anyways.

Roughly how many hours you figure you've put in? I enjoyed the demo but it didn't seem like the fun would last for long. Was my impression wrong?

Both campaigns? Did I miss an entire Halo 3 campaign!?

The rally flag hardly rescues BL's battle mechanic. While it's certainly a useful tool it doesn't change the fact that without a quick and easy method of selecting individual units this game ultimately becomes a contest of who can amass the largest blob of units.

The more I think about that last boss the more I think It'd have been much more exciting that way.

Favorite: Company of Heroes, RTSs are my favorite genre, and this is the best RTS yet made. Sadly I cannot play it now since I currently lack access to a computer capable of running it. Best: This is kinda a toss up between Portal, and Shadow of the Colossus, both are extremely immersive experiences with narratives uniquely suited to the interactive medium. Desert Island: Sim City 4, I was originally thinking Company of Heroes for this spot, but if I'm only going to have one game I want something that I can play for both long and short intervals. Hopefully the Desert Island will have the Rush Hour expansion pack because I'd hate to think of all the organs that could be flying around my city unstolen.

What was up with
-
Yes, and YES!!

Intellectually I know that Uncharted 2 probably doesn't deserve a GOTY, but in my heart I cannot come up with anything that I'd say deserves it more. It may not be the deepest experience but damn if it ain't satisfying. Perhaps it is game of the year, but I can't say so for sure since I know I'm still a bit ga-ga over it.

I'm haven't gotten far into the game at all yet, but so far Brutal Legend has made two big impressions on me. 1. The art on this game is amazing. Typically I don't go in for the whole heavy metal album cover thing, but the stylization being done in this game is just so appealing I can't help but enjoy it. 2. Unskippable cutscenes; how is it in this day and age there are still games with unskippable cutscenes!?

Idle Thumbs 47: The Lord of the Donk

Nick's reasoning wasn't big enough, maybe he should have yelled when he gave it. -
Yes Miffy, yes, Every time the camera got a close up on Chloe I started wondering what it was about her that made her stick out so strangely. How is it in a game this polished that she made it through looking as she does.

Idle Thumbs 47: The Lord of the Donk

I actually like one of the Game Stops near me. They don't hassle about pre-orders and I've actually been able to have some intelligent conversations about games with the clerks there. I guess I shouldn't say where this is because Game Stope corporate would have to shut them down. -
The problem with the first game was not that it was too short, if anything it wore out it's welcome. You don't need to play it to appreciate the sequel. Just get Uncharted 2, it's everything the first one was and then some.
