In Norway they do, actually. Most big cities' police stations have Twitter accounts where they report both traffic incident and other reports, and they even try themselves at humor from time to time. Here is the oslo one: https://twitter.com/oslopolitiops

  3. I assume that Chris was reading about the British royal family for the same reason I did; Falling into a Wikipedia hole after reading how the Queen was a army driver in this cool excerpt about King Abdullah:
  4. Job Hunting

I did something similar before getting hired at my current job. There was a pure logic part, a concentration part, an "odd one out" part, and a personality test kinda like Meyers-Briggs. All of this was arranged by the recruiter from the giant HR department, I don't think my actual boss cared much about them. I'm like you, I'm usually good at those and I often play little puzzle games on my phone, so in the interview I half-jokingly asked if I could do more. Oh, during the interview the recruiter asked a bunch of true/false statements regarding the result of my personality test. "There's no right or wrong, we just want to find out if the qualities we are looking for for this position are found in you".
  5. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

HA I BEAT TOBLIX Also I used my hometown rather than Oslo where I live, because it looks cooler on the map and cements me as Northernmost Thumb.

  7. Yay, my reader mail got read and spawned exactly the weird tangent I was secretly hoping it would. I can confirm it took place in the mid 90s, and my memory of it is definitely sitcom-like.
  8. Amsterdam/Brussels

Trips to these two countries/cities has, for me, often been about the food and drink. Great beers, great fries, waffles, pancakes, chocolate, and so on. Check Tripadvisor, Foursquare and so on, because there's usually something great just around the corner from you. -If you're into beer at all, Delirium in Brussels is a must see. -There's a great sandwhich place in Amsterdam called Singel 404. It's cheap, but so good. Try to avoid the rush hours because it fills up with students. -If you like Franco-Belgian comics, theres the comic book museum in Brussels. -You've probably already planned this, but make sure you take a canal boat cruise in Amsterdam. -Same as above, but the walk through the Red Light District is one you should take, as it's fascinating. Probably do this in the daylight, though. In both of these cities, a good plan is actually no plan. Make sure you have ample time in both to just wander around and see what you find.

I have to agree with the other guys. From what you've posted in this thread before, it's sounding like they want the same as before: Forgiveness for their own guilt, but without showing actual remorse. Of course, I don't know your parents or how they think, but based on what you said the last time you ended up meeting with her, I don't think you're being overly paranoid.

Let me throw another wrench into this discussion: What if you don't believe in "heavy" spirituality such as karma, but more diffuse stuff such as fate, or even luck? Or what about the even smaller things, superstitions like knocking on wood or not stepping under ladders? A norwegian sceptic writes a really good blog, taking to task everything from healers to vaccine and climate deniers, including the medias treatment of them. But he also wrote a post saying that even though he knows deep down it doesn't help, he does the little things we all do, like turning his laptop 5 degrees to the left because the wifi gets slightly better, or pushes the elevator button multiple times to make the doors close faster.
  11. I'm going to ignore both the BGoat discussion and the Indy discussion to talk about the most important moment of this cast, namely the point about not worrying about hair loss as a kid. Here's a story about it, also sent in to the cast: When I was around 9-10, I was in a children's theater group. Our instructor was a hairdresser by day. One day we were talking about this subject and someone asked her who she thought would lose their hair first. Another kid already had hair slightly shaped in a widow's peak and was fairly high up on his forehead, while I had long, dirty-blonde hair hanging almost to my shoulders. In my head I'm thinking it's clearly that kid, but no, she points at ME. Me, who always got compliments on his hair! Of course, this scarred me for life, and I've been terrified about losing my luscious locks ever since. I'm now 25, and my hair game is stronger than ever, but I never forget what she said, and often look a bit extra in the mirror. Always think about what you tell children.

I met my Significant Officer online too. Not through a dating site, but through a forum like this one (not this one). In fact, that forum has led to 3 couples, 2 of which are married, and all of us are from different countries than our partners. I have noticed a shift in attitude the last couple of years. The look on peoples face when they say "How did you meet?" and I reply "On the internet" used to be only confusion and judgement, but people care way less now. I always felt I had to add "Oh, but not on a dating site, through a discussion forum of mutual interest." But now, I can often leave it hanging.

    Congrats to the Aremodales!
  14. Not finished with the cast yet, but loving it so far. Just had to comment on this: Young Klepek (rap name?) wrote a story about a shark being lonely. But hasn't he mentioned that his wife is obsessed with sharks? To the point that it's in her Twitter handle? Sounds like true destiny.

Clyde, you're doing the exact right thing by not cleaning up after them anymore. I was in a similar situation at my old job. Me and my colleague were kicking ass at our duties, until the (remote) manager responsible for this was replaced, and the new guy was incompetent, uncommunicative, and was really only good at spreadsheets. He started off assuming we had more responsibilities than we did, and put stuff on us that the old manager did, and he also didn't act on problems we reported. Initially we didn't mind, because we both liked the new challences and saw it as a good way to go up the ladder, but we ended up just doing more than we were paid for, and couldn't follow through because we didn't actually have the authority towards the rest of the company or with external partners. So we just ended up being frustrated, but if we didn't pick up the slack, it would not only affect our stats and work reports, it would directly affect our customers. So we kept doing it, but kept letting him know everything that was wrong, and well, what he is supposed to be doing. Some stuff got better, some stayed the same, but always new problems appeared. Finally we ended up having a meeting with HIS boss. It was supposed to be short, but we ended up unloading our burden on her for over an hour. She told us that we shouldn't be picking up the slack, even though it would hurt the customers and the statistics. Because even though this had been going on for over a year, she hadn't heard ANY of it. Whenever he reported in, he would just say that everything is in order, or that we were taking care of stuff, and it turns out she had no idea what we actually do, day-to-day. She told us she understood us perfectly, because she had been there herself. You think of what's best for everyone, or what's best for the company, etc. But by running around putting out fires by yourself, you're just doing more work without anyone noticing. And if you're silently fixing everything, there's no reason for anyone else to notice, even if you say so verbally to your immediate supervisor. It's a back-handed favor that only helps short-term. So yeah, let it get worse. It's gonna hurt, especially if you take pride in your work, but it's what needs to be done. Just make sure it's clear what you actually do, so you don't get the blame as well.
  16. Lego is Still Cool

Silly dibs, girl Lego aren't allowed to be gamers. In fact, one of the ones I'm missing is the prospector, and he has a big neckbeard. I'm thinking if I take the body of the gamer, the neckbeard, and the fedora of the swashbuckler, I suddenly have a Gamergater.
  17. Lego is Still Cool

I found another discount, essentially letting me grab minifigs for half price: Why o why was that the one I got double?
  18. Lego is Still Cool

So I wasn't gonna buy more Lego until my first paycheck at my new job, but then I went to a department store that had it for 20-30% cheaper than what I usually see, so I ended up with a nice load, including the Avengers set that has M.O.D.O.K., two of the mini Star Wars ships, and a certain motherfuckin' minifig:

  20. Yeah, that's my reaction too, BadHat. I'm worried that will make it less tactical and more chaotic, more like (pub) TF2.
  21. Shindigs, can there be multiple of the same character? And can you change your character in the middle of the round?
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I like this one, because Aquaman is useless in any other situation other than in the water. It secretly confirms a self-image of social ineptiude outside of the internet. (PS: Please don't derail this thread by discussing the merits of Aquaman. I'm sure he's fine.)
  23. There's definitely more characters. Here's one of the images released, that has Mecha John Marsten, Raiden From Metal Gear Rising, and Enemy From Borderlands:
  24. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Co-op definitely made the game more fun in my eyes, despite the noticeable drop in performance. It's nice to say "OK, I'll capture this base, you hold off the invaders from the west." I played through the whole campain co-op with my girlfriend.
