Luckily I can spin most of those; Jurassic Park was the first PG-13 film I saw in a theatre. That fact doesn't make me young, though; just sheltered. Also, tonight I dug up and scanned one of the photos too ugly to send into Nintendo Power. But thanks to the photo, I will always have the memories of Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy and Poochy Ain't Stupid.

Don't worry, gang! I'm still older than all the Idle Thumbs podcast participants and nearly all of you commentors. Somewhere I have a photo of me getting 100% on all levels in Yoshi's Island for the SNES. I took this photo to send into Nintendo Power, but the refresh rate of my television left a scan line against part of the score. The photo was therefore useless. Ah, youth!

Idle Thumbs 90: Passive But Deadly

I hope you also said out loud, "I can't use those things together," and "I can't reach it." every time you tried something. -

Yeah, they get exclusive, hard-to-get review copies of The Ship! -
Sno's advice is very good. One of my biggest pet peeves about this game is that combat is just a series of relentless trade-offs. You can shoot at a robot with regular ammo and take about the same amount of damage each time. Or you could use the all-too rare armor piercing ammo and destroy the robot quicker, taking less damage. In many cases, that difference in damage can be expressed as the cost of so many health packs, which can compare to the price difference between regular bullets and armor piercing bullets. The game feels relentlessly balanced; every action costs something and that can quickly get exhausting.

Ah, but there are some rays of sunshine: The Vita will make a comeback! Zynga will make a comeback! It is perverse, though, that the Gamasutra staff is essentially stating Nintendo will be out of business by the end of the year because of what they released, while predicting exciting things from Microsoft and Sony who have released and have shown nothing console-wise.

Ahh, so classy. And one step closer to playing this game with Red Book audio...

Oh man; I miss the 90s.

I just found out "X and Y" are the actual titles of these games and not a joke name for the thread. I've been on this site too long.

Holy cow, that is the perfect description for this thing.

Idle Thumbs 86: Always Support the Danger Layer

Adorable! Monkey Island with the MacBook trackpad doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. Time to reinstall the game yet again, even though I have a 3/4 finished copy of the game on my phone, where it's sat idle all year. -
You're forced to kill her or something like that, but basically that's the plot of The Last Guardian, so we'll see which game actually comes out first.

Hey, this Rock Paper Shotgun preview makes this game seem less of a mess than the flop-besweated Ken Levine quotes imply. Actual NPCs! Enemies that don't attack on first sight! And, er, an opening photocopied from the opening of Bioshock!

Ken Levine Explains BioShock Infinite's Bland Box Art Ahhh, it's satisfying to be a hater/purist who thinks BioShock 1 was a mindless shooter. But apparently not mindless enough! BioShock needs to get Bro-ed up, fast!

This is the correct answer. Voice acting for all media is notorious for this. It's far cheaper to get one actor in at a time than to coordinate their schedules, let them read-through or rehearse together, etc. You can fake it with good audio engineering—but in terms of man-hours and team priorities that's expensive, too!

OTON - The Autonomous Game Console or The Beginning of The End of The World
mikemariano replied to BigJKO's topic in Video Gaming
If there's any sincerity in this at all, it's that they think it will be easier to get funding for a console than for AI-created games or laser projection displays. No one idea on that page feeds any other as a concept. I played an in-store Wii U and they did a "good" job of forcing me to look at the handheld screen for almost every action; they really are focusing the console around this controller. There's no focus here. -

The Monkey Island box art pictured above is just so good to look at. Just so good. As a youth, I found Zombie LeChuck's decomposed face so unpleasant to look at in the LucasArts catalog that I told myself I did not want to play the game. -
I have no idea! Your topic Putting Items in Characters' Butts: Why? seems like the kind of idea for thinking critically about games. But if they mean "join a community specific to a game in development and map out lore or comment on an alpha!" that's quite different.

How are the 3DS controls? Do you use the analog stick or the d-pad? I am considering a 3DS purchase which will be almost entirely for VVVVVV and Luigi's Mansion.

I beat Quantum Conundrum tonight. I posted in the main topic about it. The physics of flinging reverse gravity safes around is very satisfying. I'm wondering if the game will actually be more re-playable than Portal 2. I went back to Portal 2 for the developer commentary, but didn't have much fun re-creating my same puzzle solutions over again. With Quantum Conundrum, it's shaggy enough where a second playthrough might go differently.
