Idle Thumbs 104: Emblematic of the Dissonance
mikemariano replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Nice job sending out text messages while Nick was talking at the end there, whoever that was! Poor Nick! -
Dull OK Cupid profiles belong to dull people. Don't message them! And make sure your profile isn't dull! If you are a dull person, go out and do any activity, no matter how dumb, just so you can write, "I'm trying out Mario's Picross and will either throw it away in five days or become an addict." Because, well, it's something. And sometimes even mutual interests can't connect. ME: "You have a Mass Effect poster in the background of one of your pics. I'm playing that game right now!" HER: "Yeah, the game's all right but I really like the universe. I wrote some stories." *Sends a link to her erotic Seth Green fanfiction.* ME: "Wow, good for Joker! I wonder if he's going to get to do anything cool in Mass Effect 3. Anyway..." Then I never heard from her again.

I will never get tired of listening to Jake school people on the poker science in these games. In the thread for the original Poker Night, he describes how burned cards that are never face-up have the faces rendered on them, even though you never see them.

Idle Thumbs 103: A Person-Shaped Thing is a Person

Jake pointing out that Pizza Hut has weird video game synergy once a decade holds true in the 90s, too! -
I've been googling all morning for the source of this, but the only thing I found was a 2010 Buzzfeed post with no source. I want to know why this exists—and why it was so well done!

"Clown hair on the iguana" is the new "Syrup on the cat hair makes a mustache." Yay, adventure games!

Nice. A Sega Saturn, if you will.

I was waiting for Chris to break out the REM song, and he chose the perfect time to do so. PS: Streaming the Twitch.tv app to my new Apple TV is so good. I got to see space on a big screen. And a weird, bug-eyed dude in the lower right corner. It's kind of hilarious that everything else onscreen looks like classic NASA, but then you've got a constant, tiny reminder that these are funky little creatures.

Boos and gems, Miffy. Boos and gems. I replayed the first mansion's first three levels many times, but still can't find the boos! And when starting a new mission, I ignore the obvious path I'm supposed to take in order to hunt for boos. And every time I find a new gem, I shake my head in shame because there is a "gap" in between the last gem I found and the current one, meaning I should have discovered a gem in between them. Luigi suffers so much; the least I can do is collect all the gems for him!

Ughhhhhhhh... Like the Wind Waker HD shots so far, it's also a fundamental misunderstanding of the original game's art style. We'll see...?

This trailer could easily be for BMX XXX, or at least for Penny Arcade's description of it.

I am in the second mansion and this game has officially become too long for me to complete any one mission during my ~45 minute train ride. I feel bad for Luigi every time he gets sprayed with water, dropped down a trap door, etc. I let out an audible gasp on my train for each indignity piled on Luigi. #yearofluigi

Idle Thumbs 102: Standing on the Shoulders of Babies

No matter how many times Neptune's Pride is mentioned on the forums, I will always confuse it with the free apology Xbox Live Arcade game Undertow. I need to remember that Neptune is a planet as well as a god of the sea. -
Hey, some of you are in Boston, right? Are you OK?

Idle Thumbs 101: Introduction to Video Games

Put them all on Side 1 and have them all playing in reverse on Side 2! -
Ha, wow; thanks! This is a big jump from my DSi XL.

I am not sure what on my 3DS I exposed to the world, mainly! I guess it's my little Mii dude and his greeting message. I must have been close enough to someone in Penn Station to get his Mii and info about the last game he played. Now the 3DS is telling me I was "gifted" Nintendo Video and seems to be automatically downloading videos? This is getting complicated for a device I bought solely for Mario and Luigi.

Idle Thumbs 101: Introduction to Video Games

There is an ending to Ridiculous Fishing, triggered after you get to the bottom of Arctic Floes. It's surprisingly poignant (though still ridiculous). -
I just bought a 3DS XL and Luigi's Mansion. It's neat! I set up wireless Internet, but I have no idea what my settings are for Streetpass, Mii visibility, etc. Professor E. Gadd has called me up at least once a minute.

Idle Thumbs 101: Introduction to Video Games
mikemariano replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Ridiculous Fishing might lose its charm soon by the time I complete my train ride home, but I've had a fun two weeks with it. There isn't a lot of fun variation with the fish types, though. I would prefer a slower line drop and more varied fish behavior. Though I wasn't actually listening to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony when my character tweeted: "Listenin to bonethugs," so perhaps I'm missing out on the full experience. -
Idle Thumbs 100: King Chromin' For A Day

Finally listened to this episode. There aren't enough vomiting spiral smileys to show my reaction to Jake saying "When that skyhook goes into the police officer's head for the first time..." and I'm glad you all were able to talk about both the good and the gross of Bioshock Infinite because I would never get past that sentence as a player. And Chris, Cave of Forgotten Dreams was the only film I saw where the 3D was necessary. There were mind-blowing shots of cave paintings where I realized that some of these images were painted directly onto curved rock, and I would have no idea about that without the 3D. It makes you appreciate how complicated these paintings are. On Herzog's first trip into the cave, he was only permitted to bring a 2D camera, and for some reason they post-processed that footage with fake 3D. It's hilarious how bad post-processed looks when compared to actual, filmed 3D footage. And PS, if there's any crowd to ask, it's this one: is the post-processing of Jurassic Park 3D any good? If I have never enjoyed a post-processed 3D movie, did they spare no expense for this release? -
Fallout New Vegas had several types of currency, but there didn't seem to be any interesting limitations or variations on exchange rate. The casinos accepted any currency you gave them, and I can't recall any merchants refusing one form of payment or another.

Idle Thumbs 99: "I'm Blown Away"
mikemariano replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Ha, excellent first post. I wonder if there are LoMa players who demand to know the controls, keyboard layouts, and system specs of the members of their team. "This team is Cyborg mouse only!" -
