Idle Thumbs 156: The Holo-Violator
mikemariano replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I'm (sort of?) relieved to hear that non-players can figure out Dota somewhat quickly. Right now, whenever I watch Starcraft or Dota, all I see are colored explosions—I can't even make out individual units. -
I completed Year Three last night. I'm using Residual to play the game since I'm on a Mac, and ran into a few hard crashes during a few of the cutscenes, all involving Domino's office. So I had no idea what was going on for part of Year Three.

I started Year Three yesterday and had to come back to this thread for a spoiler hint. I spent 40 minutes watching Chepito walk around in a circle. *angry tomato*

VVVVVV is coming to iPad! Do you think touchscreen controls aren't precise enough for this game? Terry Cavanagh made a video for you: The confidence with which he avoids the checkpoint infuriates me.

Idle Thumbs 155: The Satisfaction of a Job Well Done
mikemariano replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Man, I only ever had the dumb Luigi sitting on a cloud. Even in those early days Luigi got no respect. But his year would come. -

Ah, it definitely feels like you're right. Once I figured out I was no longer controlling my original piece, but instead was controlling the piece I bumped in to, I figured out what I was doing. Then five hours went by with only this to show for it: -
2015: Sean Vanaman laces up his sneakers. He steps onto the White House basketball court, facing the President. He wins the tip-off and heads to the basket, but just as he jumps over Obama, lifting the ball above his head, an ASIMO rushes onto the court, grabs the ball, and smashes the backboard with a monster dunk. Vanaman and Obama's bodies lie crumpled amidst the netting and glass. Nick Breckon surveys the scene, horrified. But before he can scream, he is disassembled by imperceptibly quick magnobots.

Idle Thumbs 155: The Satisfaction of a Job Well Done

Haha, that's amazing. Though I don't know if I want a blood-smeared janitor restocking my first aid kits. So unsanitary! -
Flappy48, aka The End of Human Civilization

I have no reflexes and never learned to multiply, so I might just be immune to this game. Am I expected to bump mismatched tiles through each of the pipes, match those with other tiles, and then combine with them? My 4 is supposed to bump an 2 into another 2, then combine my existing 4 with another 4 to make...8? 16? I can barely get one tile through the pipes so 2 tiles is way beyond my limit. -

I don't believe in the Daedric Princes. I'm sure there is a rational, scientific explanation for why I can leave lettuce, yarn, and a soul gem at a shrine, hear a disembodied voice, and then receive a Wabbajack out of thin air.

Chris being invited to a bar via Twitter and then being shown a video game prototype on someone's phone sounds like a scene from a William Gibson novel. And it looks like that guy is Jason Schreiber. Check out that bio!

Zeus has officially passed me in my current Grim Fandango playthrough; I am at the Year Three opening cinematic. Since I haven't played this game since 1998 I've got to start playing again so this doesn't become a spoiler thread!

I really hope somebody makes a Walking Dead Typing of the Dead mod. Complete with Dreamcasts strapped to Lee and Clementine's backs.

I just installed Thief: Gold for the first time
mikemariano replied to Architecture's topic in Video Gaming
For what it's worth, Thief II has very few zombies, and those that they do have are used well. ("I'm going to sneak through this crypt to get to the mansion; hope nobody's hanging around!") Just watch out for steampunk robots! -

At my office a co-worker was plink-plink-plinking something against his desk. As I walked closer down the hall, the plinking got more insistent. I did not find the entrance to the Black Market, however.

Get better, Rob! Wow, there's a 12-year gap in between Age of Wonders II and III? With many of the same developers coming back together for a sequel? I thought that only happened with Kickstarters!

I just installed Thief: Gold for the first time
mikemariano replied to Architecture's topic in Video Gaming
Thief II is my favorite game of all time. The levels are much more confidently made than Thief and the high level difficulty goals are a bit more clever. It's the more ambitious design that really made Thief II click for me. Thief: Gold is great, and they just built upon what they already did.
