  1. Steam Box

It's pay now, according to the fine print: I can't believe Twig is really Toad from Mario Kart 64!
  2. Oh man! I nodded and thought, "This is a reference to something I know nothing about," instead of the correct answer, "This is a reference to a film you've seen dozens of times."
  3. Chris's BIGWARS story about creating his own acronymical RPG ruleset without knowing much about RPGs is completely valid. When Fallout was first announced, the article I read about it said something like, "Fallout was originally going to be based on GURPS, but instead Interplay made their own system, SPECIAL, which stands for your attributes of Strength, Perception..." So besides the barest details of its setting, the first thing I knew about Fallout was its ruleset. I find that odd, but do true RPG fans, when they hear about a new one, cross their arms and go, "Well, what's the ruleset?"
  4. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Hey, everybody; I've got this great idea for a game! Your wife gets murdered.
  5. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Oh right; this is going to be the title where Bethesda announces Steam Workshop-only mods and tries to kill Nexus for good, as speculated when paid mods briefly came to Skyrim.
  6. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Keep it coming! The only reason I'm sick of the constant reinforcement of pre-War stuff is that it's now buried 250+ years in Fallout's past. It's like if our only reference for American history was the revolution and we all still felt that the "proper" way to walk around was in wigs and tri-corner hats. I haven't played Skyrim, but I appreciated that they apparently made some drastic changes to the worlds of Morrowind and Cyrodiil—you can't go home to those old games again! Fallout 2 tried to do that, but the sequel mostly ignored that the world changes over the course of two or three generations.
  7. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

There is absolutely nothing in that teaser that isn't a retread of Fallout 3, including the same tone-deaf use of pre-War Americana. Still might be good! But I'm worried Bethesda thinks that Fallout never changes.
  8. VVVVVV 2.0!

I can't believe we don't have a thread for my personal GOTY.cx of 2010! VVVVVV has been updated! It now includes new levels created by special guests, as well as a level editor! Now I can make all the spikes I want! WARNING: The update wipes out your save games, meaning there is no record that I collected all the shiny trinkets. Tragic!
  9. VVVVVV 2.0!

Hmmm, good point. I believe Cavanaugh refers to it with version numbers only and no version of version for each version.
  10. VVVVVV 2.0!

I finally bought the 3DS version of VVVVVV. It's really good! For some reason I thought there'd be analog controls, but you only move at one speed. The 3D doesn't do much more than separate the background from the foreground, but it still works well. I had never noticed that there is a huge background signpost in the autoscrolling level until now.

This is terrific; thanks, Spenny! I just checked and Poutiney's does indeed have vegan Poutine, so I'll be able to be my insufferable vegetarian self! It looks good!
  12. The threat of Big Dog

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey did that, sort of?
  13. Sam Stanley has tests and theories. He observes and quantifies. Cooper goes by intuition!
  14. Want to date a pug? Now you can with "Hot Date"

  15. I've been trying to figure this out in my head and I don't know if anyone else has an opinion: Does Chester Desmond really exist? His sudden disappearance made me think of Bill Pullman in Lynch's Lost Highway, who is likely an alter ego of Balthasar Getty's character. Previously, the show hinted (and I guess the novels state?) that Cooper was the investigator on the Teresa Banks murder. Maybe he still is? But a part of him is Chris Isaak?
  16. Life

Thanks osmosisch/tberton/dibs! Bicycles, baseball, and towers were all part of my Chicago trip last year so I should keep it up!

I will be taking a vacation to Toronto from June 11–16! Right now I have plans to see plays at the Stratford Festival and Shaw Festival, but no plans for anything to do in the city itself. Are there any must-sees in Toronto? Does anyone have any tips for someone traveling outside the US for the first time? Is it worth it to get a SIM card for my unlocked phone? I see from our Idle Thumbs map that Spenny is the only self-identified Toronto resident. Anybody else around? Thanks!
  18. Idle Thumbs 212: DMCA Dad

"Witchered the Third" was truly inspired. Is Geralt really pronounced with a hard g? I thought it was like "Gerald" with a t, but perhaps I've only ever seen it in print.

Is Witness in Games Discussed "The Witness" or is it a Commodore 64 version of the Harrison Ford film?
  20. Twitter :)

All good rules! I go further with rule 1 and if someone is sending mean tweets to someone I read, I will block them!

  22. I just found this 1992 alt.tv.twin-peaks recap of an advance Minneapolis screening of Fire Walk With Me. It was a 3:40 cut with Robert Engels doing a Q&A afterwards. Engels also talked about a planned sequel movie to Fire Walk With Me! It's crazy to think about a Cooper-less sequel to Twin Peaks that would just be following David Bowie around.
  23. It is likely Josie-related, according to Twin Peaks Archive:
  24. Backlog Busters

A million words have been written about this game and its series, but any game which lets you walk around on the moon and stare at the Earth in the sky is all right with me. Even the Nintendo DS game Moon!
  25. Recently completed video games

Wow, good to know! I am at the 50 hour mark and am maybe at the middle of Act II. I have been doing some sidequests, but it doesn't feel like too many. And I've barely scratched the Endless Paths!
