  1. Haven't got to the Ex Machina part of the episode yet, but the Argobot's last sentence is what really bummed me out about the movie.
  2. Argh, the episode is just over 100 MB and Apple's podcast app refuses to let me download it until I get home to a Wi-Fi signal! Usually an hour and a half episode comes in under that file size, but if it means sweet Pono-quality dynamic range it'll be worth the wait.
  3. Plug your shit

I'm still a little overwhelmed by this, but my friend and I will be producing one of my plays for New York City's Thespis Theater Festival this September! We are holding auditions soon; New York actors, come on out! I also have to get a handle on production work, especially graphic design. I will need at least something to fill in a square jpg on the Festival website, but maybe a poster/postcards/artwork/fancy typeface, too? How do I advertise a show? My play takes place in ancient Egypt, so please tell all your ancient Egyptian friends to come on out!
  4. Plug your shit

Whoa, that kid is BAKED. It looks good! And your client is right that the video will be a valuable reference for future classes and parent who wonder, "what did I just agree to?"
  5. Idle Thumbs 217: To Have a Life

Finally, when I run around as Agent 47 in the nude I'll fit right in!
  6. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

It rained and snowed in Oblivion, so it was a deliberate choice to take weather out of Fallout 3. I'm upset that sunrise and sunset are not modeled correctly in Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I can give it a pass in Elder Scrolls, but when it's a nice, sunny evening at 8:15pm on November 30, 2277 in Washington, DC it doesn't feel right.
  7. Idle Thumbs 217: To Have a Life

I don't think the screenshots are that bad; most of the value of that game was in the animation. Most of the drawbacks of that game were in the animation, too. RIP Genesis Aladdin: Killed while stuck in an elaborate animation.
  8. Idle Thumbs 217: To Have a Life

This is amazing! They definitely thought through this more than the interface from the actual film. I like this quote from one of the developers: "There’s still a 1.2 planned release with Oculus Rift support ..." This is amazing!
  9. Idle Thumbs 217: To Have a Life

Speaking of Lego Jurassic World and Her Story's 90s computer interface, is there a Lego version of the "Unix" system Lex uses in Jurassic Park?
  10. Dune

I merely flipped through them after I finished. They tie into some of the bigger themes that inspired Herbert but aren't necessary for Dune or its sequels (as far as I can tell).
  11. What can you tell me about Seattle?

Bjorn: if the Argobot is moving away it is now your daughter's job to drive to Snoqualmie every day to take photos of Twin Peaks 2016 filming and post them on the forum.
  12. All those stats and rankings in the New York Times app make me apprehensive! I use an alternate crossword puzzle app (I think it's just called "Crosswords") and there are some statistics, but even more ways to get hints and cheat which is good for me because I'm terrible. I purchased the app to use it for the American Values Crosswords (the old Onion AV Club crossword team), but also enjoy some of the hipster puzzlers Brendan Emmett Quigley, Liz Gorski, and Chris...Words? One of the puzzles I subscribe to just sent out an e-mail about Lollapuzzoola, a crossword puzzle tournament in New York City this August. I'm curious, but I will fail brutally in public and I wonder how bad that will be.
  13. Jurassic World: Wasting away in Margaritaville

It's a good observation, but it's that self-loathing that soured the movie for me. It's a dinosaur blockbuster that hates blockbusters and dinosaurs.
  14. FYI, according to the Fallout Wiki FAQ, don't trust any information you hear about Fallout 4 on the forums unless you hear it from Nick Breckton!
  15. I had this exact same thought. It is inexplicable and yet entirely Nick Breckon.
  16. Twin Peaks Rewatch 33: Odds & Ends

    Oh man, that Vine.
  17. Recently completed video games

Whoever the Polygon reviewer was found it to be "brutal." She also described the plot as: Just like Empire Records!
  18. Wasteland 2

Me, too! They are developing an enhanced version of the game so I'm interested to see what that would be like. I'm going to keep an eye on it and might get tempted to return. I don't know if it's worth buying now or if you'll automatically get whatever the new version ends up being, though.
  19. Good point, I noticed this when one of the same names in the credits for The Missing Pieces showed up in Inland Empire. It still looked like Twin Peaks to me, but it really is a revisitation from modern eyes like when Soderbergh starts cutting up a classic film.
  20. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

In all cases, VATS works better than pointing your weapon at someone and attacking. Real-time combat was so unconvincing for me that I exclusively used VATS.
  21. This is the only thing I know about this game:
  22. I re-watched The Spirits Within a few weeks ago. I basically thought the same way you did but was surprised just how bad it looks now. Ming Na's main character is grotesque—she doesn't have an interconnected face; her eyes remain motionless while her lips move. This was the problem with the young Jeff Bridges in the recent Tron movie or LA Noire—they animate one part of the face well and forget the rest. I remember some of the camerawork being inventive, too (James Woods's character in zero-G), but not compared to any other post-Dave/Forrest Gump computer-tracked camerawork. I have the special edition DVD so maybe I'll just rewatch instead!
