  2. Brütal Legend overload...!

Goddamn goty if that's an unlockable skin. My frothing demand for this game is increasing either way, we should have a game art (concept and otherwise) thread...I'm not cool enough to make it though.
  3. Box Art Design Challenge 1: Danté's Inferno

So I have little to no photoshop experience but I thought I'd give this a go. Looking forward to the next challenge
  4. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Haha it's all bout the Goron Village/Aesop Rock mix Gotta hit this sweet seg while I have the chance I usually shy away from music about video games as a lot of times it comes across as lazy or uninspired but DAMN the Protomen (http://www.myspace.com/theprotomen) do it right. They wrote a goddamn dystopian rock opera about Megaman and it is straight up BADASS. Honestly I can't recommend these guys enough, the only problem being that since the album is a self-contained story it's hard to appreciate the individual tracks without hearing them all in order.
  5. Brütal Legend overload...!

Finally, a game where I can rock out in Glottis' Bone Wagon, here's hoping that the sounds of the engine will drown out the near constant "Ye-he-heah!", "ALRIGHT!" and "WHOO HOO"'s that are present in every trailer. This game looks fucking awesome but goddamn, Jack Black's voice might become a bit much after a while.
  6. Xbox Live Arcade Sweetness (MvC2, GH, Sonic)

I think I heard somewhere that it uses the same netcode as SFII HDR so if you were wondering about functionality online I'm sure it's fine.

  8. Life

I've only ever played on the 360, given that my current PC is kind of garbage, although it might be able to run things on looowwww settings. I have held off on installing Steam because I'm afraid (with my current spending habits re: xbox live) that my bank account might just up and commit suicide but the prospect of playing with you guys is damn tempting. How does voice chat work? Would a decent headset run me a lot of Canadabux?
  9. Oh lord if only Gabe had answered the second question...seven years later and we're still getting turok games.
  10. Xbox Live Arcade Sweetness (MvC2, GH, Sonic)

Haha yeah sorry, I guess that did come off as dickish, really it's just kinda the way I type...sarcasm wasn't the best choice (and sprinkling hyperbole everywhere doesn't help). Let me try that again. Sweet, I didn't know the Mega Collection Plus is backwards compatible, I'll be picking up a copy asap. Thanks! The important question is, can original xbox games properly emulate BLAST PROCESSING?
  11. Life

The copy/paste feature on this really sells it. So cool. Life is good. Just got a new job, the weather is finally getting nicer and I got a little kitty. My lady is going on tour in three days for a week, which means I'll be catching up on all my Left 4 Dead/Chromehounds/Gears2 online modes that I couldn't play due to keeping her awake with my hootin' and hollerin' (voice chaaaat).
  12. Xbox Live Arcade Sweetness (MvC2, GH, Sonic)

Quit bein' a negative nancy. I saw the link, thought it was cool, and decided to start a thread where open discussion about new and old arcade titles would be welcome. I suppose it was a poor choice of games and my obvious omissions of things like Virtual On have stricken me with a scarlet letter of poor threadmaking shame. Perhaps I should have tried to stimulate discussion more. How's this? Have you heard about 1 vs. 100 on Xbox Live? I'm not big on current game shows (Price is Right and Jeopardy 4eva) but wikipedia tells me that a question is posed to both the contestant (1) and the "mob" (100). If the contestant answers correctly, members of the mob that answered incorrectly are given the boot, and the value of the next question asked is increased. Play continues until the contestant answers incorrectly, at which point the remaining members of the mob split the money (or whatever prize we're talking about). The Video game version of the show was supposed to come out with the NXE but I guess it's been bumped back to sometime in the spring. The cool thing is that apparently there's going to be real prizes (along the lines of arcade games and MS points) while playing the weekly live shows and it's FREE. Let's just hope there's group chat for all 101 players!
  13. Xbox Live Arcade Sweetness (MvC2, GH, Sonic)

Well hooraaaaaay for you! No seriously I miss my Wii Moving along, I've loved Virtual On since 2000 when I bought it day one for the Dreamcast, but I've only met like a couple other people who have ever played it, let alone liked it. I just didn't know there were other fans out there! Playing it with the 360 controller should be interesting.
  14. Far Cry 2

It's an odd pairing but I kept comparing the rpg element to the Monster Hunter series in that neither games have any character progression (in the strict sense of "leveling") but you're constantly becoming stronger as you come to grips with the game mechanics. Both games give you a quick tutorial and then throw you into the game world, and it's up to you to learn and adapt to the various obstacles you're presented with. The only thing that improves are the tools you have to protect yourself, and the responsibility lies with the player to seek out and come to grips with their specific uses. Glad you're digging FC2, I hear the multiplayer is hells of busted but we should give it a go sometime.

  16. Game Covers 2.0

Oh come on dude, you're like school in the summer Some of those capture the spirit of the games perfectly without the usual gaudiness of modern game covers. Although those have a special place in my heart as well (see: Original Mega Man series + Mega Man 9)

And then it turns into a Stubbs the Zombie style zombie role reversal game right? ...right?
  18. Oddworld Pack on Steam

Oh wow this is going to be a great way to spend a few evenings later this week, thanks for the heads up. Now I'm jonesing to track down a copy of Stranger's Wrath, for a game that scored really well on release I don't think I've met more than one or two people who have played it.
  19. Comment on the Fresh Indie Games Compendium

Wow, Scarygirl had me from the first minute or so. That game is remarkably charming and just gorgeous to look at. You certainly did not miss anything with The Graveyard, the Tales of Tales guys make painfully "games as art hurf durf" stuff like The Path which was hamfisted as all hell. If your game only boils down to one or two things conceptually, you should at least be able to convey those concepts without tripping all over your first year philosophy.
  20. Creepy fake babies

So I guess they're pretty lifelike then... http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24019578-1248,00.html As a sidenote, people actually collect these things. My grandmother used to have a collection of porcelain dolls that I thought were creepy...my young self would've had nightmare fuel for years after seeing these.
  21. BSG: Caprica

I'm kinda curious as well. I have the last two episodes of BSG recorded but I can't bring myself to watch them. I'm a wimp and don't want it to end. My girlfriend and I actually started watching Miami Vice just to get our Edward James Olmos fix.

  23. The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!

That sounds glorious, but I'm kind of a fool when it comes to time zones...I think that's about 16:00 Atlantic time? Oh dear...
  24. Far Cry 2

I hadn't really given Far Cry 2 a chance until I heard about it (over and over again) on the Podcast, but I picked it up a couple weeks ago in good faith and have not been disappointed. I haven't really run into any of the aforementioned issues, I've just been having a hell of a lot of fun. Checkpoints and crazies chasing me were irritating at first until I realized that the "A" button lets you climb in and out of the mounted jeep turrets without having to get out. The feeling of driving at top speed into a checkpoint, quickly crawling up into the turret and mowing down five guys while still rolling along is just awesome. I love the slow build of guns in the game as well, doing assassinations for the weapons dealer and getting the M-79 a.s.a.p is hella fun. The buddy system seemed pretty forced at first, but when I got ran over by a jeep for the first time only to awake to Warren hauling my ass out of there I had a huge grin the entire time. When I saved my game without realizing that Paul was writhing around in the bushes and I was out of needles I had this heartbreaking moment where I could NOT leave him behind. I actually started a whole new game (I was about 10 hours into my first game) because the just hit me right in the gut. Anyways what I'm trying to say is thanks to the guys for making me aware of the greatness that is Far Cry 2 and I look forward to playing it whenever I turn it off. Also Josip is a kickass dude.
  25. The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!

Here's lookin' at you, kids! Saint's Row 2 is where it's at, I generally lean towards games that can be played co-operatively, competition is scary.
