  1. Life

I'll try that tonight if people keep on ignoring my PMs.
  2. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

Well, it must depend then, they made sense to me, they have a consistent theme, they're always at least for a bit related to the level (or at least I felt like so) and I went back not so long ago to read them again… I dunno I might be dumb but i like this game.
  3. Life

I'm sad at the moment. Real sad. I'm in a city I barely know but above all else, don't know my way around, I've lived in California for a while but now that I'm here, none of my friends are/are available, i've now been traveling in business trips for something like 3 weeks and here I am… Away from friends and family, no human contact. At all… Nobody answered my PMs to get to meet thumbs, no friends around, I tried to talk to star designers but each time they had to leave before I could even finish the question. I'm in a crappy hotel, I don't want to go back there in the evening but I have nothing else to do so… Might as well get some work done. Also my teeth hurt a lot and I don't have time to go see a dentist. Life's going pretty well pro-wise so I can hardly complain but I'm sad.
  4. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

What I don't get is what do people don't like about Braid…*I mean you can try and argue that it's objectively something something something (even artwise but I'd tend to disagree on a lot of what has been said), but man…*For once, the game does not talk about expected things, themes or…*I don't know, what would you like the texts in between to be ? Just "oh, and by the way BOOM haha, see the joke ?"... They're talking pretty casually about his life, important moments of tim's life but they're not poems, they're just texts, what could anyone find wrong about that ?
  5. Yeah, he looks really young under that angle, must've been photoshoped a lot… Cause I saw Jake outside of GDC, and that's how he really looks like ! See, he looks a bit older on that one.
  6. GDC 2010 for thumbs?

Though I like you, I think you are missing the point of capitalism… They are, have been and will be selling their products no matter what. At a charity ? They will be. Fighting international poverty ? They will be. Companies are not humans, they are selling machines, they don't have feelings or whatever… So you invite them because you know they are making games, so you can't really not invite the biggest players of the market, and being here mustn't be a waste of time so they sell their products… It's a counterpart, it's just GDC's work to check that they bring enough content with them to counterbalance their presence. Press passes are a pain in the butt to get I guarantee that to you, but the organizers still do a lot of "sponsored talks", they control the content of the talks pretty closely so they are perfectly aware of what is happening ^.^ Well, on my part, it's been like that… And it's pretty awesome.

Write the pros and the cons, start making up excuses for the cons then say Yes.
  8. iSteam

Yes, I'd have to check statistics here cause that "piece of info" is only coming from one company at that time but apprently, it's less expensive by a good margin to make a mac port internally during development than an external one at the end… Which seems counter-intuitive to me.
  9. I say sue them for making this tune. That and great episode too.
  10. Well, the guy on the sofa clearly lost, he had his balloons blown.
  11. GDC 2010 for thumbs?

Ksshhhhh i'm there, where are you ?!
  12. iSteam

The'yre not free that's for sure, over that, sites like http://www.gametreeonline.com/ already does that and they're not released as soon as they come out because you need to redo all the QA part with Cider.
  13. iSteam

You could run most of the source ones on cider (1h port) and most of the small indie / a good chunk of 2D games via an emulator (say valve bought some part of a virtualization system for instance). So that's the easy way. Thing is, there is very probably going to be a mac and PC market that are separated : Total Wars and whatnot will not want to port to mac, middle sized games neither. On the plus side : valve will have a good idea of what the market is pretty fast so everyone 'll know if it's worth it to port to mac.
  14. Another Mario Thing

Nope you have to shake the wiimote to make platforms switch from one to the next while timed and trying to collect every single purple coin. For now, as far as I could play, it's more of a "Final Fantasy 13-y" take on the Metroïd saga. Here they develop characters, a universe, relation between them (some are really cheesy). So not to spoil anything, the game is really cutscenes heavy and the story is now driving the sing with Samus talking to herself all the time…
  15. GDC 2010 for thumbs?

I'll be in SF tomorrow so… what happens ? Some special idle thumb podcast ? Some meeting up ? Some one ? Anyone ?
  16. Another Mario Thing

True. The last level of that demo was a nightmare, we were only 3 members (out of a fucklot) to finish it… Come on, try to jump, jiggle your wiimote and dodge things coming at you with a timer running low…
  17. Another Mario Thing

Just played Mario Galaxy 2, pretty nice new stuff in there but a lot of "more of the same" which's fine by me
  18. Yes. Although it's harder to coin innovation in literature. On a more global note, innovation is just a word, ok bullshit, ok marketing, but it has nothing to do with this poor word. Over that, innovation is pretty impossible to define at the time of the release because to innovate means "to bring something new" as in "it has to be reused, recognized by the media and digested in the video-game grammar". So when a product comes out, you'd have a hard time defining if it'll bring something new, forth, or if it's "new" traits or if it'll fail.
  19. There's that and "you might as well leave something behind so as to propel with every life that ends, the human race a bit further forward." So yeah, I get him, and I think Chris (although he doesn't get into this kind of action) thought something like this writing this. You know, I spend all this time in front of these games, I litteraly work for them but what does it give me in return ? To me, the only fallacy in this video is the "you are alone" passage. Because it doesn't really matter sometimes if you are physically alone or not, you are speaking with people. It's a different kind of relation (also, his numbers on leveling up a level 80 character are BS). The question I would then ask is : you don't want to level up a level 80 character ? What are you going to do ? If your idea of "better spent time" is reading the 7 Harry Potter Books, you're just offering a similar entertainment value in another media. And on the make great art thing, not everybody can or wants to do that or learn a language, there is no point in learning a language (also, it takes two weeks to get a character to 80, don't think you'll learn any language in that time) that you have no use of, or is it better for your career ? For your job ? Super good idea indeed… The modern world did not start when you got here mister video, people were already spending too much time in front of their TV (and still are) and before that in front of books, at least they now are together. Books are not only (and even would I daresay, mostly not) art or great pieces of literature, films or anything, most of them are Transformers 2 and Harry Potter : entertaining. Oh but to my Idle chaps that go "he has no self control" even though there is apparently no addiction to video games in the clinical sense, World of Wacraft is, in many aspects, such an addictive game that playing it is already playing it too much.
  20. Well… Then on a purely logical basis, you could say "Games that focus only on innovation or that deprive themselves of the fun factor are often not that good / are sometimes bad". That has nothing to do with innovation breaking a game in my opinion.
  21. EA Presents

EA Presents : The Merriam Webster dictionary : word darkness collision, litteraturely speaking
  22. Well…*Then, are you the same person that I have seen at times complaining about sequels ? Because if innovation is useless, why would anyone bother ? Also, innovation is still good, and that has nothing to do with the games it's in. Also also, doing something differently, in a "different" not-done-before way, is also innovation. Vocabularily speaking, wether we like it or not. By definition, if it's not been done before the way it's done there, then it's innovative.
  23. Sequels, Sequels, Sequels

That and "do you really need a guide to finish MW2 ? I would then allow myself to lol at you my good sir."
  24. EA Presents

In the vein of taking a literature piece and raping it's intestines out : EA Presents: The diary of Anne Franck : ThemeCamp EA Presents: Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis : Teenage Mutant Ninja Cockroaches EA Presents: Victor Hugo's Les misérables : GTA 1805
  25. Sequels, Sequels, Sequels

On the two man question, that's a hard one…*I'd say I would gladly take one to slap the other with the first…*And I guess, I'd take the second one to slap the first, for two obvious reasons.
