  1. Are Game Reviewers Too Kind to AAA Games?

I think its kinda messed up that you can generally safely assume some games will get good scores, like a GTA or FF game, at least from the major sites like IGN. Meanwhile a thought like, of course Mirrors Edge will get a 9, never crossed my mind. Although maybe the problem is since we assume AAA games will get scores higher than they deserve, we are extra critical of those games. So going in to playing Halo 3, the attitude is already 'yeah this is a pretty decent game, but its surely not a 9.5!!'. I mean, its pretty cool sometimes to be that guy who has the erudite criticisms of the games everybody else loves.
  2. Your favorite game glitches!

Great game for its time, had lots of fun with the track editor. Had heaps of saved replays just of weird stuff. Physics in this game is definitely my favorite glitch now that I think of it.
  3. Next² Generation Consoles

Fair enough, I agree the later stuff will improve, I just think it will be marginal. It would take quite a bit for me to play a game and think 'wow, I didn't know 360 or PS3 could do that!' at this point. More likely I will play the 2010 games and they will feel like very good games for the system, but far below the state of the art. Which is fine, I think 2010 should be the final year of this gen.
  4. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hi, I have been listening to the podcast the last few days and really enjoy it. Seems to be pretty in line with a lot of my thinking on games, such as a deep love and appreciation of quick time events. I play games, mostly wow recently but I also have a 360 and PS3.
  5. Next² Generation Consoles

I'm ready for the new consoles, hoping at least a little buzz will start up around the end of the year. The whole build up period towards a new generation, tech spec rumors and such is kinda fun. Some console games just feel so limited by the hardware. Load times are long in some cases, not enough memory or power to really take advantage of 1080p or even 720p resolution, poor frame rates and so on. Not really sold on developers finding new or secret ability in systems either. Seems the PS3 had some early problems but at this point I think we've seen about the best the PS3 and 360 can do technically. There's no trick that will suddenly allow a Gears of War quality game suddenly run at a flawless 60fps.
