Howdy, With all the talk about chip tunes, I'm surprised you didn't mention the Commodore 64's sid chip and the amazing music that thing produced back in the day. People are still composing on it now. Not sure how big it was in the states, but in the 80's, I loved my c64 and the sounds it produced. Check out a demo called Dutch Breeze and you'll see the quality of music you can achieve from a c64. cheers!
