Christ, I didn't even realised there was an install option, just because every other Capcom game does an automatically install. Cheers for the heads up!

I've got both versions and I'd say the 360 is the better of the two. Obviously gameplay wise they're the same, but the 360 version has better resolution and the load times are almost non-existent from the HD. I would suggest if you're getting the 360 version to get a stick or fightpad, or else the d-pad will rip your thumb apart. I've got a cracking blister.
-
Nope, the 360 version here. It seems like the network rating you see in the lobby isn't representative of the players connection. Normally you might see the odd person lagging, flitting around the place, but it was literally everyone in the game. First thought would be that it's my connection (8mb), but I've not had problems with any other games.
-
Anyone tried this online? I had a few games last night and it wasn't great, the lag was excruciating. The lobby was showing fair to decent connections for everyone, but in game they were teleporting all over the place...the last time I encountered that was playing Quake World on a 56kps dial-up! Definitely won't be playing it again any time soon.

I've found medium fine, well up until the bastard Seth, but admittedly I have played through it using characters I know from the original roster.

Better than the official 360 and PS3 pads. As for button presses, I suppose it would be ok with your thumb, a bit of a funny angle mind, but I rest the pad on my knee and use my fingers ala arcade stick stylee. Anyway, been playing this online today in ranked matches, got 100% wins so far. If you don't turn off the online option it's impossible to complete a match against the CPU without being challenged, good to see it's doing well online. I'm nothing but impressed by the net code, Capcom has really kicked ass on that front, I can't see any difference between local and online versus.
-
I would highly reccomend the official pad. You'll probably find your abilities aren't so crap after all.
-
Welcome home...I think? Picked up the PS3 pad today. Not had a chance to test it in combat, but it feels pretty good in the mitts. I think my kung-fu skills will be much strong with this on my side.

They are, but not quite as cheap as when Seth performs them. It seems like that character fights under a different set of move rules, he can counter most moves once the you've won the first round. Don't know whether that transfers to multiplayer or not.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth [Old game playthrough]
MonkeyWrench replied to nonamermcgee's topic in Video Gaming
I checked some old comments I posted about this elsewhere and it brought back a lot of memories. I totally forgot about the vertigo feature! I think I may have to hunt down a copy. -
To be fair though, the original story did need fleshing out quite a bit As for the AI, I agree for the most part, but it was still a cut above and there were a couple of moments that really did impress me. One was after leaving the subway section where one of the replicants, running for cover, opened a car door and took up position.

Sweet jesus this is good! I fired up single player just to get my feet after such a long hiatus from the tournament circuit, but accepted the option to allow people to challenge me, I only managed to get one match in against the CPU! Just like the good old days in my local arcade! Plays like shit with the 360 controller mind, the d-pad just isn't responsive enough, so I may invest in the 360 version of the official pad. Love the theme tune too!

Actually that reminds me, I need to listen to that. -
Received my 360 copy today...just installing it now. I caved in an ordered the official SF4 pad for PS3 today, will be picking that up tomorrow along with the game. This weekend is going to be smart I tell thee.
-
Heh...yeah maybe, but I draw the line at buying one of those tournament sticks!
-
Received confirmation that my 360 copy has shipped, but I'm going to pickup the PS3 version on Friday too so that I can kick it old school with my PS3 owning friends, who are all people I spent hours playing SF2 with. If anyone fancies a kickin' * give me a shout: PS3: TarkaWrench Xbox360: KungFu Ramone I've not been this excited about a beat'em up for a long, long time. * Maybe doubtful, my kung-fu skills are probably weak nowadays!

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth [Old game playthrough]

Good call. It's a great game, probably one of my favourite of the last generation and definitely one of the scariest games I've ever played. It had some quite daring design decisions too, such as not giving the player a weapon for the first few hours, but it was worth it as it climaxed in the chase through the town which is one of the most tense gaming moments I've ever experienced. Pity Headfirst went down the pan, I'd expect them to be producing something special right now. -
Not that I know of, just the odd forum post by people that they screwed over. It was basically ran by four guys who had no business sense, one of which was a bit of a megalomaniac..and a linux fan. The unfortunate thing is they're still going under the name Atomic Gamer and continue to host official sites for id and Raven. Anyway, not to go off topic. Thanks for posting those articles tsweez, they were an interesting read/watch...and very thorough!

Yeah according to an article in GamesTM the Darkwork guys said Raymond has no involvement in the game whatsoever. Another interesting snippet in the same article is that Darkworks have signed a partnership with Trioviz to utilise it's 3D technology, which uses a single display and a pair of glasses. A game like this might be a great poster child for true 3D gaming (that and Mirror's Edge 2!).

I think I'm over half way through now (in the school) and I'm still enjoying it. I normally take the default difficulty with any game, but this time I took Chris' advice and started on hard. The challenge is spot on, I've died a few times but like you said there's plenty of checkpoints. In fact I noticed in one area of snipers it was saving after each sniper kill! Not that I mind, I'd rather that than having to trudge through the last 5 minutes of game. I'm not finding it particularly scary either, but there has been a few well directed cut-scenes that was suitably creepy. One thing I am missing from the original is the lean function. You have this system where you can tip furniture over (did anyone actually use that?), but then you basically have to come out of cover to shoot. Also it seems like the enemies are perfectable capable of leaning out, as if they're mocking you with their supple spines *shakes fist*

I'll apologise in advance then...I used to work for Telefragged Just as a writer though, only realised about their dodgy dealings when they locked me out of all the sites I updated and didn't pay me my last two months of wages.

I read the article the other day, it was an enlightening read. I've never trusted Metacritic due to the clandestine way it weights a review's worth, which as mentioned is all based on the opinion of just one of person (which is backwards to what the site is trying to achieve). It's a shame that publishers do put so much emphasis on the results of such an unvalidated formula, and it's probably frightening to think how many times Metacritic pops up on powerpoint presentations in meetings at various developers and publishers. Off topic... Marek, are you the same Marek from Adventuregamer(s).com?

"This game will bang in your face y'all!" - IGN.com "It's like the best reach-around you've ever have" - IGN.com "This is balls deep!" - IGN.com I think I once got a box quote for Operation Flashpoint (or it might have been just on the print ad), funny thing is the quote was completely made up...I went to the press event but didn't even look at the game, instead opted for getting hammered at the free bar.

I completed this a few days ago and I enjoyed it much more to PoP. Don't get me wrong, PoP was good fun for the most part, but there was just far too much hand-holding and auto pilot gameplay. What I've liked about the TR games (well the first one before Core ruined it and the last couple by Crystal Dynamics) is that you enter an area and have to survey your surroundings as it's not always clear what you have to do (unless you use the hints). That's the kind of mental challenge that was missing from PoP's latest interation, your path was always clearly defined. Sands of Time had this nailed so I'm confused as to why Ubisoft got it so confused this time. I agree Underworld isn't perfect; the combat isn't great (they have a long way to go to match Drake's antics) and the camera is dire at times, but I do believe Underworld was a decent step in the right direction for the TR series.

I've just played through the first couple of levels and so far I'm enjoying it. It feels very polished, the combat is solid and there seems to be great attention to detail. There were a couple of neat little touches on the first level, one was I went for a paddle in the fountain right at the beginning and my buddy questioned whether I had a shower in the morning. The second was how an enemy on the roof top opposite the office I was in spotted my flashlight and shot the crap out of me. Little things, but it shows the developer was thinking beyond the obvious. It has to be said mind it seems to be following the old scare-prepare formula of the original, it's no longer "oooh my flashlight is flickering, I wonder what's wrong with....AAARGHGGHGH! PISH the bed!" It's now a case of bracing yourself ready for little blood-red riding hood to come ambling up to you in a creepy manner. Anyway I'm going to get back to it whilst I have the TV to myself.
