http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=249280 I've finally realised what's been bothering me about this...every press release is about content creation...there's very little about actually playing all this content...

Haha! 'Fuck off' used beautifully. Well done!

Gee, d'you think? What was it that gave it away? Was it the title of the video?
-
All of it.

Perhaps...but the resource gathering model is still there - that's the crucial gameplay mechanic existant in CoH over C&C - you *have* to push forward to get res, and you gain res by holding territory - each section giving you res in one of three types of resource. The battles occur over the territories. There's no base building as such - the game is pretty much centered around attack. It is much, much faster. The maps are claustrophobic too.

Ok, you've got it and made some levels. What is it like to play? Is it fun? If so, how come? I'm a little suspicious of it...

Dark Forces! That was it!

As ever, people have differing opinions - I got sick of that game style ages ago. It wasn't until CoH opened my eyes to what RTS *could* be that I went back to the genre. It's given me some of the most exciting gaming sessions of recent years, to the point where I remember once finishing a 45-60 minute 2v2 online match with my heart pounding, sweating and feeling a bit jittery. It really is that good.

Have the C&C games progressed beyond 'Build up a force, send it over, whittle enemy defences, rinse, repeat' yet? Dune 2 was good, granted. I can't play them since the Company of Heroes game model blew it away for sheer thrills and excitement.

The last good start wars games i played were X-Wing, TIE-fighter, and the first FPS - was that when Kyle Katarn was first introduced - perhaps making it Jedi Knight I? That was back in '96, I know the year as I should have been studying for my finals.

Erm... I've broken it again. It seems to not like me trying to make Arthur Dent stand up.

I think we've broken him already

Bye then!

Heh! I can't see that selling too many to tech geeks More about the location based aspect crossover of social networking into games. If you can make a simple, fun, casual game that links into facebook and google maps or whatever and can be cross phone platform for those with HTcs, iphones etc., as soon as more phones become GPS capable, I can see it going a storm. Heck, the amount of people that love twitter shows that people are getting round to being willing to connect as often as possible and tell everyone that they are connected - if you can come up with something that becomes addictive enough, you're made.

Game journalism is a joke (no matter from where you view it)

That stardock article is a good one. What struck me this time round, is if they got the coverage he was talking about (front page splash etc) would that naturally lead to a greater piracy problem for the game? -
Anyone got wipeout yet? It's the don.
-
Ditto. Also - I didn't know you guys say 'zed' either. One more chalk mark
-
Schlop-schlop-schlop. It gets in your treads and everything.

It seems I'm in a minority. I would have been right pissed off if I'd paid full price kino tickets for that. To be fair, Johan stole the show, but otherwise (apart from aforementioned) it was pap.

Just mind you don't slip on the hair grease on the way out.

Really? We thought it was total bobbins, quite boring, bad, cheesy one-liners - the only good bits were when Del Toro was allowed free reign - the troll market for one. I found it really unsatisfying, with the promise of so much more.
-
Just that in my experience they give you fuck all for software/hardware and charge the earth for 2nd hand games that generally aren't *much* cheaper than new. They're essentially a pawn shop. I don't like them at all.

I boycott CEX now. They're a bunch of thieving bastards.
