It seems that it's Spaff fucking about http://roflopolis.com/index.php/roflopolis/article/idle_thumbs_archives_nail_your_penis_to_the_wall_news/#comments ...and is 'Wuxtry' being used in it's Urban Dictionary meaning?
-
Now that's really interesting! My wrongful use comes from hearing the phrase and directly breaking down the meanings of each word. I guess this is an example of the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts, albeit in grammatical form.
-
Heh! D'you think it was that simple? (see my post above).
-
Quite! I think if I'm honest, I really only became 'concious' of it when I was thinking about it the other day - somewhat romantically I cast my mind back to when they were a new form of entertainment, and folk would be colloquially referring to the 'movies' because of the fascination with a moving image. That begs the question why the word 'talkies' didn't supplant 'movies', as that was the newer technology. I guess it's just one of those memes that succumbed to a stronger linguistic thought. It's quite fascinating how language evolves sometimes!

Although I might be veering off-topic a little, it's quite an interesting question, as I was thinking the other day about the terms, 'Motion Pictures' and 'Movies', both of which are obviously antiquated terms back from the turn of the century when it was new technology. They are probably not going to change any time soon, as they are ingrained into the psyche. Back OT, for the record, I generally refer to them as 'Computer games'.

Game journalism is a joke (no matter from where you view it)

...and here we have a publisher trotting out the same tired old story, akin to the MPAA and the record equivalent and their whinging. http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/10/08/ubisoft-creative-director-piracys-basically-killing-pc/ -
I started playing this again last night - it had been languishing since I bought warhammer, but after a stinging comment from my g/f, ("Since you bought that bloody warhammer, you haven't touched wipeout...and you went on about it for months and months..."). The playing hiatus has somehow made me better...whether the reflexes to deal with the sheer speed have matured while not playing or what...I'm not sure...but I'm beating gold times by 2-3 seconds, when previously I could only get bronze. Still, superb game, and I'm glad I've picked it up again. 3 points from unlocking Speed Freak...

I think it's merely an attempt of Nintendo to emulate Apple's schemes of bringing out small iterations of the same hardware in order to maintain the same price point...so agree with Mr. Vania, there.

It's ok, I haven't really. Just a comment on that chap signing up and wanting a friend code from the fist post, and including his steam id...
-
It's ok, I've just reported the ID to steam for hacking.

He's just ignored the many meanings of fanaticism and twisted them all into the one that matters most, wantonly disposing of the other contextual meanings in a rather, erm, fanatical (using his working definition) manner.

Seems to me as for the most part he was bitching because they made it harder.
-
Probably less than $50 if that makes you feel any better? He would only be getting a slice of that retail.

aha, I knew there were other folk on here from there, but had forgotten. Cheers Miffy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freakonomics I think you might quite enjoy that book nachimir. It seems like it might be your sort of thing.

Actually no, it was more about canada in general, as my g/f and I are starting to talk about emigrating... but good memory though. I'd forgotten about that bit.
-
Blimey - I had no idea! What a twat.

He seems like a bit of an all round prick, if this is the bloke you are talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orson_Scott_Card

Next question: Is 3 minutes enough time to make a decision on supporting a paedophile? Or, am I missing something, and you gave a fast reply as part of the point to illustrate that M&L:3 is easily good enough to override moral objection to an author's proclivities.
-
I didn't think of it like that! It was more an amusing picture of keyboard rage. Miffy, I'd like a word with you about canada at some point - I'll PM ya.

Charlie Brooker has this to say about 'The Happening': "This week Charlie watched The Happening on a plane: "Mark Wahlberg gives by far the most appalling performance I've ever seen from a major actor in a mainstream movie. Really. Seek it out, it's a thing to behold.""
