  1. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Slightly OT, but high quality tomfoolery from /b/:
  2. First game you remember playing

Lord Korax, I found old-computers.com the most complete resource.
  3. Books, books, books...

    Ohhhh, burn!
  4. First game you remember playing

Wait, you completed Pac-man? That's awesome.
  5. First game you remember playing

Well. This takes me back. It's taken me a while to find it, and I'm not certain if it's the one, but it has the most matches with a very hazy memory from dead young (maybe 5/6 years old?). In particular, I remember the detachable controllers that fit snugly inside the unit, switches at the top of the unit, motocross games, pong games, but not the dial controllers - I thought it had joysticks, but I could be wrong. It didn't have the light gun, as it wasn't even mine. Circa 1982. http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=2&c=818 Been addicted ever since. You'd think I'd be good at them by now
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

Finally got round to watching Dead Set. A friend had edited it together into a feature, stuck a menu on the front. Pretty good really.
  7. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Oo, there's third? Only got to see the second. Will have to wait until The game becomes cheaper.
  8. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

    Which Scarecrow bit?
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

I saw the trailer on TV, thought it looked gash. Then saw the Empire review of 5 stars! Glad someone else agrees, maybe will check it out.
  10. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Well, hopefully a friend is bringing his copy around to my house tomorrow.
  11. Idle Thumbs PAX Meetup: Saturday at 5:15PM

    Yes! I thought this!
  12. Non-video games

I used to play Quest for the Dragon, but ended up rewriting the rules totally to make it a bit harder. Remember it being quite good fun though. Must have been about 12.
  13. Yeah, I can see it's a massive game. The necro is pretty good, although the skeletons are quite aggressive and will wander off. The golem is solid though.
  14. Sounds like CoH pulled quite a bit from Z. As I said, what killed it for a lot of people was the unreliable multiplayer network code. What was Battle.net like in its early days? CoH used UDP for multiplayer sessions, and had lots of problems interfacing with different players' routers. It's better now... Battle.net has obviously been around for years, and ironed out niggles ages ago. So, was it crap early days? Did people even notice, as it was prolly the first thing of its kind in the RTS arena?
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

Watched 'The Hangover' yesterday. Surprised me by actually being funny and not shit.
  16. Although the cover system was good, it was the mechanism that forced you to move forward constantly to gain areas of the map to gain resources that did it for me. It made it impossible to turtle and build up, forcing the game into a fast paced frantic thrill.
  17. Sooooo... Diablo II then.

Ah, sweet. Cheers. Will it automatically revert to another level of skeleton summoning, or do I get to spend it elsewhere?
  18. They both seem to run fine! Ace. ...and from inauspicious beginnings, Frank the Necromancer journeys into the badlands.
  19. Street Fighter IV

I'm fucking hopeless at this game. Can't even finish one char at medium level. Get halfway through (with Sagat), and come up against Abel or C Viper, both of whom spam me with focus/firestamp attacks respectively. Then I get frustrated and turn it off.
  20. Powerless Wire

That was one of the little details I loved in Firefly. When Reynolds rocks up at Badger's yard, Badger waves a flimsy newspaper at Reynolds which was all totally animated. Looked the shiznit.
  21. Non-video games

Not played them for a while, but when I do, it's usually Abalone or Go. I'm still pretty hopeless at Go, though.
  22. Erkki - CoH was one of my favourite games of the last two years. So much depth and thrill. Fast moving, unforgiving, and fun! I knew I'd found something special when I played the demo and finished a match and my heart was beating very fast and hard, and I was sweating. Unfortunately, Relic kind of fucked it when they consistently failed to sort out the network matching issues; they'd also nearly got it balanced when they brought out Opposing Fronts - the balance has only nearly returned with the most recent patch. Still, 2 years worth of gaming for 60 pounds. Can't be bad.
  23. Ace. Thanks Chris... Anyone up for a game? Do you find matches by battle.net login name?
  24. I will freely admit, that I was introduced to RTS with Dune 2. Loved it. Then came C&C. Loved that too. Played a few others...got bored of the lack of real strategy (Build up an army, send it across, rinse, repeat). Didn't like any other RTS until Company of Heroes came along. Which was awesome. For this reason, I was pretty non-plussed by SC2. Hearing you guys talk about it, and reading Nick's tweets, it has certainly piqued my interest. Hence I thought I'd better grab SC1 just to see what all the fuss was about. Blizzard store is pretty well organised as well, and the infinite download thing once you've added the game to your account sealed it. Will I be able to play it on two different machines?
  25. Also, since Remo et al. are constantly banging on about Diablo II and Starcraft I, and since at the time they came out I was too poor to afford a machine to play these games... I've just created a battle.net account and purchased them for digital download. Will they run on my Asus EEEPC 1000? That's right, I've NEVER played either of them. This will be rectified!
