  3. One can only hope. His litigious poking has awoken the EA dinosaur. Maybe they will crush him. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ea-petitions-to-have-edge-marks-canned http://ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/v?pno=92051465&pty=CAN&eno=1
  4. Will Langdell choke to death on writs?

Langdell "completely certain of a win." http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/edge-games-completely-certain-of-win "When did EA become the good guys?" Well, quite. Says a lot.
  5. Mice for gamers.

MX518 here - always found the Razer mice too small to use comfortably for a long time. Never use a mat either. Make sure the desk is polished often, and you get perfect glide. I've not noticed the peeling issue on the MX518 myself either. Have a Razer keyboard though, the Lycosa, purchased for it's backlight so I can game in the dark and still chat. It's my second backlit keyboard, the first one was dead cheap 'cos I didn't feel that spending a lot on a kb was worth it...until the backlight faded after 12 months or so. Lycosa now prolly 2 years old, going strong.

  8. Game design advice

Wotcha, I'm beginning to approach the point where my grasp of Cocoa and iphone SDK starting to lean towards vaguely competent. With regards to designing games/software, can anyone offer any advice, or a good resource I can read/look at that will give me a pointer or two in the process? It's a one-man band affair, so not sure whether a process that a studio follows will help - or is it all much of a muchness? Ta
  9. Game design advice

I imagine it's a bit more encouraging as well, having something working, however loosely.
  10. Game design advice

Nice one all. I hear ya wrt something simple - I think I will need to approach it like this in the first place as I still have an incomplete grasp of the language. So, for instance, once of those crappy helicopter games where you're flying through a cavern that gradually gets thinner, you touch the screen to go up, release to go down. That in theory should be a simple affair, perhaps making the animation etc better as I improve - purely for a personal proof of concept. I think structually (in a code sense) I will prolly have to feel my way forward

  13. Mini Thumbs meet?

I might be around - depends if my contract comes off or not. If it does, will be in Berkshire, could make it over to London for a few beers.
  14. The perpetual thread of praise!

Comedy gig last night... 17 year stand up, he was good, variety act after him, he was better, finished up with Simon Munnery. He was ace. A top night!
  15. Life

    That sounds like foreign language.
  16. PAX East

If I was in the area, I'd go for the barbie and booze. If I had guaranteed income I'd also consider catching a plane to do it. Would be funny too, just to say that I got a flight to the US for a barbecue. Not very green though!
  17. Shatter

I so wanted to love this. Got bored of it very quickly.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Attention everybody! Four Lions will premier in UK next week @ Bradford Film Festival. It is sold out, predictably, but be ready for when it goes on general release. I don't think there is a film I have looked forward to more, ever. http://warp.net/films/four-lions

The R.U.S.E. beta is avail for another 14 days or so on steam. It's quite good, and don't just trust me... Bridger of Tales of Heroes fame has started Tales of Deception! Get stuck in.
  20. PC Tech questions

You will prolly end up, depending on the game and it's demands, a range of low-medium to medium settings I think.
  21. PC Tech questions

I'd up the PSU for that rig Patters. But yeh - that will see you right for games.
  22. A brand new study from Rennes University has some interesting findings. Although they only asked 2000 people in 1 region (Brittany) from september to december last year, the results may point towards a larger trend in France. The 3-strikes law that was adopted at the beginning of this year (although not actually codified yet) is one of the first around the world, with other governments thinking of following. The overall copyright infringement has increased by 3%, but the most interesting figure is how people get their content: Usage of P2P has dropped, while other methods that are not covered by the law (or make it more difficult to detect due to encryption etc) has gone up. Some may say that this was inevitable - but the study also points out that amongst those that do consume copyrighted material without paying for it, half of them also purchased digital content - so if they were to be removed from the internet, there would be a loss of revenue on behalf of the copyright holders. Hopefully sooner rather than later, the big music companies will realise the answer is not legislation, but an improved content delivery mechanism.
  23. Copyright news - Fresh study from France

Oh jesus. I was in the middle of penning an email to my MP to try and get this to be debated properly, then I checked here. Nice one David. www.writetothem.com Here's my letter. Feel free to copy it, but change it if you decide to send it to them, as they tend to react badly to form letters.

Red Riding - it's supposed to be really really good, although very dark. Thanks for reminding me about it!
  25. Copyright news - Fresh study from France

Where did I say that? Maybe you confused Brittany? Bretagne is the French name.
