That man clubbed to death in Jordan got a mention on the R4 Today prog this am - although they're focussing mainly on Syria, as (it's said) Syria might have a domino effect with Lebanon, which in turn will affect Israel. But, take heart if you can, at least in the UK it's being talked about. All the best.
  2. iPhone/iTouch gaming

Indeed! Waiting until I get home and getting it! Also: Speedbsll 2 is pretty good, if a little easy.
  3. Idle Thumbs Camping

Re: trailer tent, yeh that's all good, although that would place you in the area with no campfire. If everyone else brought tents, and they wanted to be in the fire area, then you'd be not near everyone, but it's quite small and would only take 2 minutes to walk there. I've just spent the evening re-designing the site, and purchased some hosting space, so it is now marginally better, although still not yet uploaded. It's only with iWeb too, but it's passable. P.s. I love macs. They make life so easy. P.p.s. Are there any videos of this fire staff?
  4. Idle Thumbs Camping

then Also, what exactly is a firestaff? I suspect not though.
  5. Idle Thumbs Camping

Heh, well yeh. It's not an invitation really. Maybe I didn't think it through, but was basically expecting the people who showed interest before to show interest again in at least the idea (as we all know how fickle the internet is) and then was going to take it from there. But point taken. I posted in another thread and just assumed that people had read it, sorry. 1)I am taking over a campsite this year in Shropshire,UK from my mum and dad. I mentioned this in the 'Life' thread, and someone (think it was AG) suggested a weekend. 2)There is no website really worthy of the name, just the shittest holding page imaginable. This will change this year. (My parents are not web literate). Phone number and address on there. 3)Shropshire is very rural, and it is in a tiny village, next to a river. This means it is quiet and clean air, with canoeing trips available should you want them (and you should. The River Severn is really nice to canoe down, very slow and ideal for beginners). It's rural nature means that it might be only of interest to a certain type of person. 4)'We' is myself and my g/f, who will be running the campsite. 5)I have opened up a new area of the site so that it is possible for a small number of people to camp around and near a fire. This is more of a draw to canoeists coming down the Severn, as not many sites allow fires. 6)Should you want to come, you are free to decide whenever, as we are open from April 1st until the end of October. If anyone does want to come, will need about 2 weeks notice, more at busy periods, for example, Easter, May bank holiday etc. Sorry for the ambiguity. I assumed too much background on everyone's behalfs, as I have been here the last few weeks and grew up here.
  6. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

That might be good. Having never played either of the first 2, the story in AC:B was entirely confusing for the first hour or two.
  7. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

You should. It's the most fun I've had playing a game in ages.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

To be fair, most of the replies are all up for it, and say they get used to the slang. It's the fuddy-duddy distro execs that are being dicks.

Just finished Heavy Rain. Can I nominate that for a movie?
  10. Non-video games

Questions for players of Arkham horror: When you close a gate that a monster is on it (and the monster has a different dimensional symbol) does the monster hang around? If a flying monster is in the sky zone, and no investigators are in streets, does he just stay there? When fighting Yig (who curses you at the start of battle) can you do a roll to remove a curse at the start of each phase when you do the 'Upkeep'? When waiting at St. Mary's or the Asylum, can you increase your stamina/sanity past your char's maximum?
  11. Heavy Rain

Sorry for thread resurrection. Well, not that sorry. Anyway. I've not read any of this thread in case of spoilers. I deliberately didn't when it was going on jsut in case. Bought this the other weekend, as I'd always been meaning to, and kept forgetting/never got round to it. What a game. Can I say that again? What a game! Really, really enjoying it. It's not too long (~70% the way through), but wow. If games can more along this line instead of another fucking FPS (although I am looking forward to Brink, but that's a special case), then there's hope for the industry yet. Trbles thumbs up from me!
  12. So, those who lament the passing of CoHO, there is now an ultra-detailed RTS for you to play with. And when I say 'ultra-detailed', I'm not talking about the gfx. For instance...when your tiger runs out of petrol, you need to send in a supply truck and get a geezer to carry an oil drum from the supply truck and fill it up. Resupply forward mortar positions. Loot dead bodies for their hats/ammo. You get the picture. It's hard as hell. But absorbing. The Multiplayer is fab. RPS said so.
  13. Japan

What's that you say? The Heroes of Newerth communtiy being ABSOLUTELY A BUNCH OF COMPLETE DICKS? Never thought I'd see the day...
  14. Hard disk fail

If you're removing fairly robust components like hard disks, it sould be enough to touch a radiator or similar before removing it; your central heating should be grounded. In the UK, we have 3 pin plugs, 1 of which is connected to earth, so leaving the IEC lead plugged in allows you to touch the case and remain earthed, soaking any charge you have [built up walking on carpet for example] and allowing you to work. I don't know your power arrangements in Estonia though. As for more delicate components (memory, CPU etc.), a static wrist band is advised - but think what you attach it to. I always connect it to my radiator (as laws in the UK require water and heating systems to be grounded), so you will need something similar near your workspace.
  15. Life

If Japan can't deal with this quickly and efficiently, then no-one can. I reckon western countries will be able to learn a lot from how they handle this.
  16. The Wire

...aaaaaaand rather topically (for us) Snoop (from the wire) gets arrested IRL for being part of a drugs smuggling operation: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/local-breaking-news/the-wire-actress-arrested-in-d.html I thought I'd read that she was a hood when she was younger.
  17. The Wire

This, more than anything else for me. I'd never seen anything like it, and as the credits rolled and I got up to go and make a cuppa or nip to the bog, it took a few seconds to shake off Bal-tee-moor. Currently on my third run through, on series 3...
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Those pricks over at Universal have canned Del Toro's 'Mountains of Madness'. Why? Because he wanted it R rated, and they wanted it PG-13 http://mobile.salon.com/ent/movies/film_salon/2011/03/08/mountains_of_madness_derailed
  19. Non-video games

Arkham Horror arrived this am. I ordered it, then found out about Mansions of Madness (Rock, Paper, Shotgun gave MoM a GREAT review!) Tchoh. Also, after playing Carcasonne on t'iphone etc. finally got round to ordering the physical version. Looking forward to them both! Edit. Just noticed above link is for RPS. That's two good reviews of a review. Paging Xzibit!

  23. Life

Ah, mate. That's absolutely horrible. Being totally detached emotionally from the situation it's hard to offer anything, but you have to try and ascertain why. Also, it's not something you should deal with yourself. You need to speak to her folks, your folks. It's not fair for her to lay that on you. Don't let her guilt trip you back into a relationship, as that will go badly. Although she might think that's the best way out, personally I think it's a coward's way out. It's selfish - all that un-necessary pain you would cause your loved ones. If she does go through with it (and don't help!), there is no come back on you. It is totally her decision. Not yours. Above all, I think it's a selfish thing to ask you, and to consider it. If she doesn't go through with it, get shot mate. No further contact. Again, easy for me to say. Sorry.

I have to wear a prism on my specs for the next month or two. Why? Because I'm a spacker.
  25. *Face-palm* (Bulletstorm)

I played the demo, it wasn't strikingly impressive. Will prolly let it pass. I only have time to play the odd game now really, so have to choose them carefully. As a result, this is a 'meh'. Brink, on the other hand, Be that as it may, it could turn into a right tussle with Fox. Will be interesting to watch.
