Yes, but yours was far more eloquent

I also love the way the intelligence documents leave a subtle stream of raggedy papers allowing you to track the captors There are lots of nice touches like this throughout. The water in 2Fort is a treat as well, muffled sound, blurred vision. It's just the little things. As for the Spy, it's my understanding from play testing that when you adopt a disguise you take on the names of the opposing teams equivalent. So if you choose to be a heavy and there is a heavy on their team - you'll take his name. If there is no heavy then you'll have *unknown* as your name, which means if someone mouses over you it's a sure bet they are gonna pump you full of lead. I've heard of scenarios where you adopt someone's name only for that person to end up looking straight back at you perplexed Brushing against people does seem to ruin the disguise, or at least make it flutter arousing suspicion (this is just by judging the reactions of those I have bumped into on my travels). Whilst the invisibility cloak is very obvious at the beginning and end of its cycle - so beware. It leaves a trail of particles and sputtering animations at these points.

Why not just use this for the steam community logo? Cropped from the main site.
  5. Team Fortress 2 and Portal

Hellishly good fun! The engine and stylistic approach is entertainment in itself. There's nothing terribly new on the gameplay front, this is still just Team Fortress, but it's an extremely entertaining romp nonetheless and it's got a lot of little details which flesh the experience out even further. I'm seriously enjoying my time. Some maps are incredibly difficult at the moment (everyone is getting to grips and faffing about) but if you can get a balanced server you'll be in for a treat
  6. Idle Thumbs Steam community

You'd think so wouldn't you, but you'd be quite wrong! It's (currently) not possible once you've made your decision to then alter it through profile settings. Thankfully for Idle Thumbs the 'private' version of a group has a couple of benefits in group statistics which the public versions do not. It's nice that they omit to mention stuff like this when creating your undeletable group though!
  7. Team Fortress 2 and Portal

So anyone patiently awaiting the BETA or is it just me
  8. Idle Thumbs Steam community

Invite? http://steamcommunity.com/id/cigol Eventually this will track game statistics amongst other things. You can also use your steam community program in any game by utilizing a hotkey where it overlays in a smooth way - it's cool
  9. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

Truly hilarious Bioshock review you may or may not have already seen
  10. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

Maybe because it's an interactive medium with very little variance in underlying gameplay mechanics? Actually my point isn't that a game should neccessarily do something 'new' but that the experience should be made fresh. If you've played the three previously mentioned games ('Deus Ex', 'Half-Life 2' and in particular 'System Shock 2') then you will have a great feeling of deja vu from the get go (...and god help you if you've played more than those three games!) Maybe there are parallels to other mediums such as film and literature, I don't know (?), but if you have an inordinate amount of experience in the field of gaming to such a degree that you can recognise the hallmarks and underlying structure from a quick play through and guestimate what's going to happen, how it's going to happen (etc) and so on and so forth... well for me that's a bad place to be in. I shouldn't be punished for my well travelled ass cheeks - I should be rewarded but there's no homage, there's no telling nod. It's all derivative of earlier material packaged into a different colour scheme and under a different name. It's a pity that the combat is so unsatisfying of itself that the difficulty is artificially ramped up and people have to go to such silly depths to generate the kind of fear you'd expect to be its strength. As game design goes surely this is a huge misstep?
  11. Sam and Max Season 2

I'd like something a little meatier and epic personally. I only played the first few episodes and they were enjoyable enough but I'd like something with a little weight if it's going to continue being episodic - especially without bringing anything substantially new each time. Just a bit of embellishment perhaps.
  12. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

It's a well made game (aside from some jarringly obvious scripted triggers) but it's extremely derivative of other games so I'm not seeing anything particularly new here guys. Whilst it's an enjoyable experience I can't help but feel that I'm being discriminated against for having played similar games in the past. If you've never played Deus Ex, System Shock 2 or Half-Life 2, then fair enough; Bioshock probably represents the pinnacle of gaming in your eyes. ...but I have played those aforementioned games (and then some), so Bioshock with its ridiculously poor AI, monotonous combat and truly unspectacular gameplay leaves me feeling a little empty. Everyone is gushing with superlatives but I just don't understand it
  13. Wii not taking games Seriously

The next gen version of Unreal Tournament will ship with full mouse and keyboard support - there was a news release about this not too long ago. I expect Crysis when it gets released to do the same and I'm sure there are many others along the way. Plug and play mouse and Keyboard support has been supported for a long time now (back to the PS2) but very few games supported it because of the climate at that time. At the very least, the support for these control mechanisms is there and present in several games. That sounds 'viable' to me? No argument about the Wii controller's potential jack of all trades quality, but it's still no more definitive than any other control mechanism.
  14. New people: Read this, say hi.

Thought I should say hi I've been browsing and reading with interest the forum for some time now but only registered about a month ago (and plucking up the courage to post something last night). Always found it curious in that it's rarely updated but of all the sites it's the most eye catching Still, I probably wouldn't have delved deeper into the forum had it been updated every day
  15. Wii not taking games Seriously

I disagree. For example try playing GTR2 with the Wii controller (impossible I know because GTR2 would never run on the Wii in the first place - but try and imagine such a scenario where it would). Then go and play GTR2 with a Logitech MOMO wheel and pedals setup. The difference is extremely dramatic not just in 'realism' stakes but in the immersion the wheel's feedback provides and how that relates to your ability to drive. Does the Wii (or the N64 controller in Goldeneye) replace the Mouse and Keyboard as FPS gamers choice of control? I think not. It's different (and no doubt attractive in novelty), but certainly not a replacement. The Wii control method is an alternative, it's no more definitive than any other control mechanism.
  16. Some free advice to Peter Molyneux...

Haha, what a pile of poo Daikatana was That was a truly brilliant game in my opinion. I remember I rushed out and bought it on my birthday. Though on reflection I would always hate having listened to the hype leading up to it's release, I'd always fall in love with the game whilst playing it. Evidence his incessant hyping does more damage than good. I guess hatred towards Peter is from a jealousy standpoint. I'm not suggesting 'you' (or myself for that matter) are truly jealous, I don't know how better else to word it (!), but he's not saying or doing anything particularly ground breaking and this rightly irks people when he is put up on the pedestal.
  17. Wii not taking games Seriously

Actually the Wii provides an alternative form of interaction. Comparatively speaking you can't compare the control scheme to the systems processing power. Both the 360 and PS3 offer many different control methods (mouse, keyboard, Wheel, Joystick, etc). These are established methods that are different to the Wii control method, but not inferior.
  18. Some free advice to Peter Molyneux...

The reason for contention in the original post is that Peter has a problem (which he himself has admitted to frankly) whereby prior to any release he'll give these rapturous talks which capture your imagination in one fell swoop (ad nauseam). Unfortunately the games following this whirlwind of hype always fail to deliver on the key points. None of his games are bad (at all) but the way he talks about them prior to release is very unflattering once they are in your hands. He comes across as an affable geek to me and it's easy to fall under his spell.
