Wow, that's some e-penis you got there - seriously Maybe you can make a torrent containing them all when you're done? -
The Future & Waiting for the Miracle both have scores from me in the Elite section

Saw this on RPS and had to laugh being a PC gamer (one that owns a Logitech Momo and a G25, for what reason I couldn't possibly divulge) They are in their own little mass marketed bubble! ...then they come out with this truism. ...until we finally come full circle. I'm not sure what the point of that discussion was at all. Their thoughts are applicable to practically any genre on a console simply because it's mass marketed, streamlined entertainment.

I think it means offensive in nature. I've not seen anything lewd yet anyway.

These kind of features sell the game so it's to be expected. The bit that's worrying is if you take it away what have you got? Hopefully a game, and not some carcass.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballistics_%28video_game%29 Are you talking about this game? I remember playing the demo of this and wishing I'd played the full version. I wonder whether it's as fast as it felt it was back then.

Well, the update hasn't caused any problems for me beyond clearing the cache of existing generated levels and resetting my umm, settings. Not sure what that is all about but it wasn't a big deal. On the other hand something called the tetris effect kinda is. Never heard of it before but someone on RPS alerted me to it as the reason for why I can't listen to my music without imagining playing it in audiosurf... kinda surreal, and very annoying Still having a ball with it and have to say my fears of it getting repetitive have disapeared. It's not so much a game to me but a way to enjoy my music, although with the tetris effect it's becoming the only way to enjoy my music

I signed up as Cigol, it's an amusing diversion, very funny at times a little flat at others - but well made and well worth a look considering it doesn't force you into a regsitration process from the get-go. Be interesting to see how it develops, I'm only at level 3 so I've just scratched the surface I suspect.

You guys sure listen to some strange stuff I personally wasn't completely convinced by the demo but I went ahead and bought it anyway and have to say the full version is much more appreciable. It just seemed to make more sense once everything was unlocked and I could fiddle to my hearts content - and at this price it's a steal. One thing I don't understand about the white blocks - can you not chain them? I had about 5 in one running and it completely screwed up the rest of the track Should be something not too popular otherwise it's bound to get sodomised by everyone else
-
It looked a bit too mechanical and pointless for my tastes. At the moment it looks like a gimmick, maybe in the hands of gifted designers it'll work but I can see it being needlessly fiddly.
-
Has potential. I've only played the demo, briefly (3 tracks, Moby, Chemical Brothers and Yann Tiersen) and I liked what I saw. I've not a had a chance to soak it all in just yet though, and I'm worrying that it might get repetitive. Still, 10 dollars?

I'm not genuinely bitter (hell I'd let Valve use me as a toilet if they wished), it's supposed to be light hearted jabbing on account of my frustration

"No, no. It'll be out soon, I can feel it. Just one more refresh :shifty:"

The release of Badlands and various other tweaks in the form of a patch. It was supposed to be out 11pm PST but it didn't make it's way for about 4hrs later.
-
Damnit. Why are Valve so utterly shit with release dates. Not only do they charge us to preload games and make us wait before unlocking it but they can never get a patch out on fucking time Now, I wouldn't mind - but why announce a date/time and always miss it? It makes you wonder whether they are just sat there laughing and monitoring the fallout that inevitably occurs (and that's not a comforting thought). Other theories include collating statistics for use in their future bid for world domination, frantically trying to fix some last minute snags, or that they have simply forgotten all about us poor saps with nothing better to do than press refresh over, and over, and over......

I know I used to go mad at my sister when I first got GTAIII as she would never do the missions. I couldn't understand it but she seemed to enjoy it more that way - which is fair enough. It felt to me like she was only playing a quarter of the game though and I wanted her to experience it properly - but she was having none of it. This might explain the difference of opinion - if you never enjoyed the originals you won't have that frame of reference. The controls were finickity but I adjusted pretty quickly if I remember. The originals felt more like classic games, the newer versions retain a lot of the original gameplay but there's a slightly different slant on it all.
-
I never said it was too serious? I'm saying the tone of the game is such that it's no longer as fun to do the simple things that made the original GTA games so enjoyable. I personally used to just drive around, shoot things up, run people over and create large swathes of hijacked cars to blow up in a chain reaction. None of that is as rewarding in the 3D version as far as I'm concerned. I'm not saying you can't do it - you can - but the tone of the game (the removal of points, the humanization of the characters etc, etc), for me anyway, makes it less of an option.... but this is all in relation to the original games, had they not existed my opinion might be slightly different.
-
The tone of the game prevents things that were once fun in the originals being as fun in the later games. At least that's what I find when I play. Its satisfying running people over in the originals (eek!) but not in the newer versions, is that not the same for you?
-
I agree but I reckon there's room in the world for both types, the serious and the non-serious. It's just a pity that the trend is a linear path towards yet more serious and realistic game styles.

Well without dragging the thread off topic I simply don't see any value in buying the 360. It's catalog of games is hardly inspiring and the PS3 has an ace up its sleeve in also functioning as a bluray player. I have a decent PC gaming system and I'm not a fan of either the PS3, the XBOX or their type of games (besides the few exceptions that there are tend to be on the PC... eventually). I do like GTA and MGS but beyond that I can't see anything dragging me to the PS3 which is where my reservation lies. Of course I'm also waiting to see what the deal with the PC release is, as they've typically been some way off the console releases since the switch to 3D. Didn't 'Getaway' try that angle? The controls are also simple enough on the PC, and I've not had too many problems with them on the PS2 either so I can't say I agree with that. GTAIV however is supposed to be smaller in scope than San Andreas, with more focus and tighter gameplay. If that's true it could be a balance between what your describing - but I imagine it's difficult to pull off.

The GTA collection has been released on Steam and I use my PS2 controller with that (albeit mainly for when I'm driving a motorbike as the mouse/keyboard combo is superior for everything else), so this is probably a good bet for your setup as it is designed to be played this way. Pro Evolution Soccer obviously is another console game on the PC which would be perfect - I prefer Pro Evolution Soccer 6 to the next gen (2008) version. I think something like Kane and Lynch, Hitman, Freedom Fighters, Gears of War (et al) will be nicely controllable with a joypad as well. If you have a wheel, get GTR2 and Richard Burns Rally, both are fantastic driving simulations and with a force feedback wheel like the MOMO or the G25 they really come to life. Some people like(ed) playing Freespace 2 with a joystick, I personally don't - I prefer(ed) the mouse/keyboard combination. I find the controller thing limiting unless it's a dedicated game like a flight sim (Falcon 4) or driving sim (GTR/RBR). It might not look cool or be ultra-immersive but it's the best interface for general gaming as far as I'm concerned (but I guess in your case a moot point )... anyway it might be doable on a joypad and it's a great game so definitely worth a shot. Test Drive Unlimited works best with a steering wheel btw, it has quite advanced controls and driving system in comparison to similar games like Need for speed (which I've tried with both a joypad and steering wheel and found more fun and easier to play with the keyboard would you believe ) but obviously this and other games like it are still playable with a joypad. Maybe download the new NFS pro-street demo and see what that is like (anyone?) ....but what I use my joypad for the most is emulation, playing games like Mario 64 (etc), except I do it in front of a PC - it'd be nice to take a trip down memory lane with a couch scenario

I'm a big GTA fan and I've completed all 3 of the recent titles (GTA3/VC/SA) - in fact I'm in the process of going through them all again via Steam (which is crazy now I think about it as I bought them all on their respective release dates for the PS2 ) My personal favourite as with a lot of others (for the same reasons) is Vice City, but I think San Andreas is a great game despite the lacklustre setting. The first two games in the series I've never completed - I played them for points, just doing my own thing killing people and creating havoc. That's not nearly as much fun in the 3D versions so I find myself compulsively going from mission to mission in order to progress the storyline and get to the next island. I can't wait for the new GTA personally - which means I'm going to have to end up buying a PS3, which with only MGS4 and GTA piquing my interest doesn't bode well!

I saw the preview video for this on RPS and I thought it looked pretty disturbing (even with the knowledge that driver of the vehicle is a fellow raptor) - but finally playing it I didn't find it that shocking at all, I guess the video is pretty disconnected from it all. The controls are a bit twitchy, and the car rolling around is annoying, but overall it's a remarkable game. My highest score is 526,050 (274,550 exports, 71,350 stunts, 17,850 kills, 9 orbs, 12 variety)

Jackson to direct Hobbit movie. Also sequal. Wait, what?
Cigol replied to DanJW's topic in Movies & Television
Quoted for truth. Echoing my thoughts on reading this thread a second time also. In fact I didn't know Holms was suffering from cancer, which would explain this comment I made; "it's a different kind of story that's well worth telling before the borrower posing as a hobbit pops his clogs"... Oh well, what might have been then. I liked the Hobbit more than the Lord of the Rings as it was far easier to digest and whilst it's not an epic tale with huge armies clashing (and what not) I could easily imagine it being a fun, traditional fantasy/adventure yarn - particularly with the right actors, screenplay (etc), but that's the beauty of our imagination isn't it!
