It got a 4.5 on IGN which is obviously very bad by their standards. I can't be bothered reading their justification as the game doesn't interest me.

Erkki I see you've edited your previous (vs San Andreas) post? I've not yet completed GTA4 (I'm up to the point involving the Italian mobster Jimmy) but I'm finding myself drawn to your original argument more and more. I'm reserving judgement until I finally see the end credits however, just in case.

Check out 'play time'

I come here for analysis, for people to explain the show to me, but here I am having watched episodes 5 and 6 to find nothing You don't expect me to watch and understand it all on my own do you I liked all the shooty bits, POOOWWW KABLOOOOM all that, it was great! The talky bits though, me no understand. As a jumping off point; what exactly did the hybrid say to Starbuck (who's been annoying in a Michelle Rodriguez kind of way since day one Danny boy), I thought it sounded a lot like she would lead 'them' to their 'end' but that she was also the 'harbinger of death'. Am I right? If so why then is she still aboard the ship? I'd have ejected her ass out of the airlock ASAP, if not for the whole harbinger of death deal then for that winning personality of hers. Discuss.

The only reason I even bothered making one was because I got something so randomnly amazing as that quote and that picture. Unfortunately mine looks less like an album cover and more like a piss-take. Regarding the quotes; I think you should make one alteration to the rules. On that page is some checkboxes which will expand the selection of quotes to randomnly pick from. This way you can avoid repetition.

Question for the completionists regarding a strip club mission involving Dwayne; It seems like an innocuously simple mission in premise but I'm struggling.

Got my PS3 too late for the MGO beta I only own two games at the moment, GTA4 and GT5p. One you already have on the 360, the other is an acquired taste. I do use a rental service to get titles I'm not confident of, but haven't yet come across anything I'd recommend in terms of multiplayer. Fight Night in particular was brutal. It's one thing getting knocked out in the first round as Muhammad Ali, it's quite another getting knocked out by a dangerously obese dwarf with pink hair GT5p is a game that's unfortunately rather stale offline and yearns for online connectivity - but for some reason 99% of the drivers you'll actually play are more interested in ramming you off the road than actually driving against you So umm, mostly just play GTA at the moment. I can't think of anything that would change that either except perhaps MGO when MGS finally comes out.

My thoughts exactly! It was like getting slapped in the face with it's ordinariness. Considering the hype building up to its release you have to question the existence of such an average, by-the-numbers demo. Crazy. The controls don't have that elasticity that Goldeneye 64 (etc) had either, which is disappointing, it feels more like a good PC port of a poor PC fps which isn't the kind of feeling you want to convey.

If you watch the TV there's an insurance advertisement ('VIG' or something like that) where the client 'accidentally' runs over a hooker on the pavement and worries about the consequences. Apparently if he takes out this insurance policy, he doesn't have to! Does that count? I use them to get around all the time The first time you call Roman's personal (and aesthetically inferior) cab service there's a hilarious exchange of words I wasn't initially expecting which was made all the more real and exciting by calling someone on the phone, of my own volition, to discuss further details on a mission I was on my way to. It's just so surreal

I had to restart my game last night. Whilst loading the game I realised I didn't have time to play so used the XMB button to quit the game and shut the PS3 down - I guess that was a no-no as it wouldn't load up for me again! Had to delete the save and start over but as I'd only really been one mission away from completing Vlads quota it wasn't so bad. Besides, not having to worry about getting used to the controls or inspecting every little detail (etc) was refreshing as it allows you to focus purely on the gameplay/story and it came across much better like that. It also opened my eyes to the variation in missions and choice. Obviously they are linearly scripted to be a choice (so it's quite arbitrary) but it was fun all the same. I made two choices before I decided to hang up the controller and rest my eyes. I think I'm just going to dick around some more before going on another mission marathon, try and spread it out. As for the PS3 version, I have it. It has all the usual GTA trademarks in performance issues. If you play GTA on the console you have to put up with them and they aren't exactly consistent. You might get pop-in in one area for example, but you won't the next time, or vice versa. I don't know why people get all hot and hairy over it, the PC is kicks both the XBOX and PS3s arses so it's a moot point

Don't look for something that was never on the cards. The thing I enjoyed about GTAIII's switch to a 3D perspective was that they never tampered too excessively with the core gameplay, it changed to be sure (a more cinematic experience, less arcade-points-based-mayhem, and a 3D perspective) but controlling your character, driving the cars, etc, it all felt familiar whilst also at the same time being a big step forwards. We all know the rating system is flawed, GTA4 isn't perfect by a long stretch, nor is it this huge next-gen revolution of the existing games. It's just GTA4 as you'd expect. The hype has been a bit unreal but I don't feel like I've been gypped the same way I did after buying Bioshock (a perfectly good game before anyone starts:woohoo:). But I bought into the hype of Bioshock, even after playing the demo - whereas I could tell from watching videos of GTA what it was going to be like (in terms of its sandbox gameplay) very easily, that might even be down to that familiarty that is inherent in the series.

Been playing mine so far, it's very much GTA as I expected. Not bothered doing the missions yet, just arsing around. Impressed, only the PS3 doesn't currently have a working internet. Frame rates can get dodgy as well but they've always been like that on the console. So far I'm liking all the little flourishes, bit overwhelmed at the minute, gotta do the story.

Well I'll add my name to this expansive list in the hopes I'm not the only one; Cigoler [/url]

I think they should have released the weapon pack separately. The map mode is fun and new, and ingenious but the map itself feels too familiar, same textures, design ethos (etc). Nothing new or exciting about the style of the map. I was hoping they'd have done something slightly more adventurous, so I was disappointed at first, expecting something more eye catching given the pedigree. Still, grateful for the update, and am looking forward to the point where playing medic is no longer on everyone's lists of priorities. I can only wonder how unbalancing releasing the other weapon packs individually will be - it's just too tempting not to use the class that's been tweaked
-
The IGN review did criticise it, but only in passing, nowhere near as verbose. Ah, well I stand corrected, perhaps my speaker system is a little too weedy to notice or something
-
That speaker clicking thing in real life, I've always wondered, what is that?! Plus should it be happening in the car as its never done that with mine, just my PC - still either way it's a cool addition and I've enjoyed reading the comments in this thread (both positive and negative ) ...now just to get the game... a console... and a HD-TV

That last line sounds like it was more or less paraphrased from a similar line in Bridget Jones Diary. Funny because the guy who plays Baltar was a secondary character in that film, involved with that line

It's worth having a PS2 controller for driving bikes because as you say it can be a bit of a problem when you want to lean forward/backwards. It's doable without the controller though, I remember I played the whole of Vice City on the WSAD setup, but if you're used to the fidelity a controller gives you when driving bikes it can feel a bit more awkward naturally! Did you buy the GTA collection on Steam or something? I own them all on the PS2 but couldn't resist finding another excuse to go through them
-
Just generalising (and taking) your comment (out of context) and more than likely misinterpreting it; I don't think a character needs to play a roll in a series for it to be a good character. In fact that's what I liked so much about the Sopranos, in that there was this large list of secondary characters of which some would come and go at random but their personalities weren't stunted by having to have some higher purpose or linkage to the main storyline. Gaeta has had his character fleshed out sufficiently already. If memory serves he was going to be jettisoned from the bay doors himself last season - with Starbuck first in line to end him. What I can't remember was whether they resolved this conflict between them? Maybe it will be a talking point, but it's hard to guess where things are going, so I'm doubtful. In so far as his role on the ship, it's quite obvious he's one of the more intellectual, skilled members of the crew, assisting Baltar through much of the series (to his detriment ). Sometimes ambiguity is a good source of drama but I'm not sure I agree that Gaeta lacks that definition. He has shown his character in season 3 especially. He helped them, without him they wouldn't have succeeded

Wasn't a huge fan of the episode myself, for one it was painful on my ears - primarly because of that fucking child () - but also because of the musical score which was both too prominent and annoyingly poor. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood to watch it but I felt like turning the audio down every time that demon child was on screen and/or the music kicked in.

In a voyeuristic sense that was both interesting and entertaining but I'm not sure I agree with your comment about Bywater, at least not regarding this issue. He comes across as arrogant and bitter but I would echo the comment above. Unwilling to go back on his comments he seems to have dug himself into a hole - hence the increasing number of jerkoff comments.

Seemed to end rather abruptly. As for this update to TF2, I look forward to the new game mode but I have my reservations about unlockable weapons (particularly as I have none of the achievements necessary ).
-
You could be right, I honestly can't remember a damn thing about episode one aside from the train ride - I just have a vague recollection of feeling it was only a fraction better than HL2.
-
For me, 'Episode Two' is the pinnacle of the Half-Life 2 universe. It addresses some of your criticisms with much more character & plot exposition, greater direction, cinematic gravitas and dollops of emotional attachment elevating what's essentially a linear shoot-em-up into something else entirely. 'Episode One' on the other hand is just a slight improvement on HL2 - which I personally wasn't a great fan of, thinking it a bit too trite and especially lacking in terms of combat (what happened to the enemy intelligence or for that matter the variety). Of course it wasn't a bad game, but I can see with Episode Two what the were originally gunning for in terms of approach.
