No Valkyria Chronicles. It took them ages to even get a review out for that as well. Not that I care... but y'know.
-
They are having a sale, and from a GBP perspective the prices look rather tasty.
-
Merry Christmas everyone.

I don't even remember seeing any action. It can't of been very memorable. I did find the subdued humour in the trailer funny though. It had a Grim Fandango vibe about it (well, that one bit) and I looked upon it as one of those inane 'bits' which work in the full game but maybe not out of context.

Have you seen the videos for the new Metal Gear Solid level pack? The hand held "Paintinator" weapon that fires paint and splats its victim. Looks frikkin awesome, check it out!

That GamePro is totally awesome (or radical, dude). It had more content in 5 minutes than the entire episode of Game Damage and whilst it was humongously cheesy I didn't find it at all cringe worthy. 'Course, Spaff is right in saying we had it better with GamesMaster, but... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wkmsh_whBoQ (4:40) Dave Perry (sic) then says; "and some of you might say Doom. Why isn't Doom in our top 5. Well Doom came along on the crest of the PC wave, but 7th Guest was there at the ripple"

The titles sequence was sort of cool, but one of the guys looks like he's in the middle of taking a shit when previewing an upcoming game. Hard not to laugh.

I'm pretty sure you can see Gabe Newell as part of the audience in one of these videos. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he left Microsoft shortly after that. lol.

[while the thread is off topic anyway]...was it ever established whether the actors were in on the joke?
-
I have Blade Runner on BD and it's awful. You spend the whole film looking at background details rather than watching the film. Give me a lossy AVI any day
-
I'm looking forward to it immensely, just not sure what to expect. Is it going to set new standards for Total War or be perceived as a rehash?
-
They keep going up and down in price. How is text clarity at that resolution though?

It's the guy from Uncharted - he was awesome in channeling the HarissonFord/FireFly vibe in that game, but is completely out of place in this one. It's especially a bad choice because it reminds people of a different franchise and spoils the experience - it'd be like seeing Batman play Superman or vice/versa. I'd say it's sort of like Disney's Aladdin but not as good, mainly because there's too much talking and the choice of voice actor is wrong.

The graphics, aside from the creepy looking characters, are very pretty, but movement and interaction with the world is too 'notchy' and artificial for my tastes. It's not like ICO or SOTC for example, there's little sense of fluidity - and unless I'm mistaken even Assassins Creed was much more naturalistic. After playing Mirrors Edge it really puts into perspective just how well they pulled off their platforming segments. It's hard to stomach PoP's initial areas without feeling really jaded. There's no skill or depth to it. I suspect it gets better, and I hope it does, but I've little inclination of finding out. I'm also, for some inexplicable reason, reminded of Soul Reaver when playing it

I think it looks good but there's too much bloom - something Yahtzee ripped on in his video 'review'. I think it's hilarious that the exclusive DLC PS3 owners have been waiting for is a collection of coloured blocks suspended in mid-air. Oh you really are spoiling us, there we were thinking there was just 9 variations on the theme - but no, ten!

At least they got the message. All hail the inevitable sequel; *what does it mean by no city?

Jesus, pretty wrenching (if amazing) stuff

There's a teaser trailer here featuring, would you believe it, snow. I really enjoyed the first Uncharted and even though the characters and setup are far from original I still feel like revisiting the universe, meeting the characters again and continuing the story. If they at least get that part right it'll be a success in my eyes. So looking forwad to this

I actually just saw this on your site littleBigPlanetoid, checking the creators blog the guy is also responsible for the PS3 iPlayer service, which I thought was cool. Being able to browse levels, comments and so on outside of LBP is neat - but I agree; it should have been done by Sony in the first place.

...but is it in-game? It looks positively awesome but there's a couple of 'uncanny valley' type moments like the pinpoint magnum shooting and the cinematic, Sony E3'ish, camera sway. The graphics are (considering it's supposed to be a source engine mod) rather jaw dropping as well, it makes Left 4 Dead look like shit. [...swift edit...] Or, not... I watched it again, this time in a higher resolution, and I can safely say I may have overreacted a tad () but yes that skybox is amazing. I thought it was part of the scenery at first () Still; what are they going to do in regards to AI? There are no direct equivalents to the Marines and Assassins in Half-Life 2. I'd hate for them to become faceless storm troopers you gun down nonchalantly.

I find you can be speculative with where you initially start the wall-run, and that aiming upwards helps, just not too far as you want to keep momentum. But in the end I think it's mostly trial and error because I can do flawless runs of some areas and then 'bam' I'll miss that one easy part because I got cocky or something. You, um, gotta have faith I'm just happy to have finally completed it and put it behind me. 'Mirrors Edge and its infuriating but often sublime platforming taunts me no more!' There was a great chase scene in chapter 8 and the footsteps of enemy runners pursuing was maddeningly tense & exciting (I can still hear their tip-tapping in my dreams ). They remind me of the assassins from Half-Life, but they didn't really use them enough. At one point I thought the plot was building up to their introduction as a major element but they sort of took a back seat and popped up again (without drama) at the end... bit of a waste I thought? The finale was a let down too. I had no idea what was supposed to have happened, whether it was resolved, who that person was or their motives. Ignoring the plot elements the actual level itself was surprisingly shitty-easy. JUMP - that's it, really? Just a single jump!? I'm not spoiling it by telling you that - as they sort of spoiled it themselves by making it so - but I was expecting something a little more dramatic, substantial and conclusive. I guess spreading it out for a trilogy had some knock on effects, or I just wasn't paying attention, or both. Still i really enjoyed the game, as when it's good it's really great. The mechanics of which are best exemplified in time trial mode, but it's when you're chasing someone, or being chased and everything is going well that it's at its most exciting.

I thought the intro to Mirrors Edge using a similar technique (and reminiscent of Panic Room) was rather pointless and boring so I skipped it, but GTA at least wove it into the introduction of the game taking some of the focus off the technique. I never knew about that

Man, I seriously still have wet dreams about the DIRT interface, it was really nifty. He's like the gamers equivalent of the guy who did the title sequences for se7en I also notice there is yet more shunning of the brilliance that is Valkyria Chronicles ( ) as it also happens to feature text in (what I'm hoping is) a kinetic fashion. Fire a machine gun for example and a Batman & Robin style "RAT-A-TAT-TAT" flashes across the screen, or when an explosion in the distance goes off you'll see a "BLAM", and so on and so forth. It's consistent with the style of the game - and as it features no blood or guts the textual representation fills that void.
